  1. And as one piece of maketing data: I’m a Celebrity-focused cruiser and use the Line because it meets my current needs. I’ve cruised other Lines for a specific itinerary or to join friends. If Celebrity offered adult-only itineraries, I would consider it only IF it was an itinerary I really wanted, the price was the same/very very close to a standard itinerary. It would Not be a product Id have any real interest in, in reality. Not even a “gee, lets try that out”. Just not something I’m interested in as a specific product. But I also dont go on Carnival, Disney or on the huge RCL ships because i did find the focus on kids to detract from my cruising interest. But Celebrity experience isn’t that. And I realize I’ll get posts telling me how ‘wonderful’ those ships are and I’m all wrong. I’m not……For Me. den
  2. I don’t post my real photo……I changed it to that balding short guy photo because I got so tired of explaining to my wife all the emails I got asking me to marry them were from women (and a few men) who I’d never met and didnt ‘encourage’! den
  3. Love to meet up, but you owe me a beer for ‘making’ me read and post on this thread!! your fault for posting something kind of fun. And of course the cruise would have to be AI!! den
  4. Agree. Trying to repeat another product is at best, tough. Viking is very different: smaller and very port-intensive in most cases. And plays the “Thinking person’s cruise” type approach. the OP asked this as a straight business question, and the obvious is, would a 2K+ sized ship company make more money with adult only or staying as is. My completely unknowledgable opinion of such is Nope. There are other options for the adults-only focused group, and I havent seen many posts about kid complaints about Celebrity. From my view, not an issue for the great majority. most of us who usually dont cruise with kids havent had issues, and many Celebrity-loving cruisers, even without kids at part of all our vacations, have taken grandkids. And probably asking this type question on an adults-only cruise line thread would be of interest. Would they consider a Celebrity adult only cruise? I think the OP, and most of us, can guess the answer. And the few Celebrity cruisers who would like it wouldn’t fill a Celebrity lifeboat if it cost more! hehe. den
  5. @Newbury newbie, dont understand your comment about “group bookings”….what does that have to do with asking for a friend if they can run their private business on cruise? I realize this entire ‘idea’ is dead before delivery, but no idea what a group booking has to do with trying to sell stuff on a cruise. Bad enough with the door bell ringing and some guy wanting to sell me solar panels or getting 1,316…ops 13117 now….emails selling stuff I never asked about. And you don't understand peoples’ reactions and expected only ‘factual’ responses?? Personally, I have a feeling you’d not appreciate getting such stuff on cruise. Another non-factual comment. den
  6. No, all the posts are responding to what the OP asked about using Walkie Talkies on a ship. Not one post was about any other, and it wasn’t a ‘simple question’ that had a Yes/No response. The OP didn’t ask “Can I”, they asked “Is it acceptable”. The OP got the responses most anyone would expect. Den
  7. I’m afraid that is a pretty low-water mark! Love sharing!! Need to keep an eye on each other’s itinerary and see if there is Any chance of joining up! den
  8. “Roger, Over and Out”…..only said in movies. den
  9. I think the above posts captured the essence of what most all think of such. And what the Obvious response from Celebrity would be. Sounds kind of like years ago when someone you barely knew asked you over for ‘dinner’ and you realized a whole group was invited who had no connection with each other except somehow knowing the person, usually very remotely…….and if you actually attended, spent the evening getting ‘The Pitch’….oh just love and miss the Pyramid Scheme parties! den
  10. The only Retreat Suite that lists access to the Thermal Spa as included is the Sky Aqua Suite. You can get day passes, or full cruise passes. We go the full cruise one and Loved it. Could be wrong for the big Suites but not listed in the Ship SR descriptions. ‘Regular’ Aqua SRs also include access. Den
  11. Only because you are so……Iconic: ‘Widely known and acknowledged for distinctive excellence!’ Den
  12. US Walkie Talkie use are illegal is UK and Europe, and Euro Walkie Talkies use are illegal in the US. They will work, and from a website (So it Has to be true!), most countries dont really care. So unless its found during some luggage check……. They did say Switzerland is big on not allowing non-EU ones, and the Middle East is Very restrictive Presonally, I‘m on vacation and its good to set times and places to meet when with groups, but I always insure that they are Not to wait for me. And when you do meet up, there’s always someone(s) wandering in late…..and theoretically texting, or one of these things would help, but usually not. Just my experience. And of course family groups are always a good group to spread walkie talkie through…..the kids love to use them endlessly and everyone around them just love it too. Den
  13. And walkie-talkie dont work well between steel decks. Yes, some passengers are bothered by the users yelling into them trying to get responses. It can be disturbing….and not really needed with the Celebrity App that now informs you with a pop up that someone has texted you. A Much better and reliable communications method. den
  14. Oh, and be on a ship with talking Rats running around looose!?! Nope. Even if the laundry room is luxurious. Didn’t realize that was a phrase I’d ever see…..I need to contact my contractor immediately and order one! And yes, @NanaPam00, I actually understand what you are describing, but I just couldn’t keep from joking a bit. If a laundry room is going to be added to a vacation experience, nice that it isnt like one of our local laundromats. Important that this is true since there is No Way my wife would step into one on vacation…which means I would. den
  15. Did this actually happen or are you saying you may not remember a specific missing piece? I know a few posters are saying they lost a piece, and I reported one had to be retrieved, but having used the laundry on many cruises, I havent had losing a piece happen beyond that one time. den
  16. We are also on the Edge TA departing 24 Oct and at one time the App stated Check In opened on 8 Sep, 45 days prior. Now it doesnt show that info. But I have it on my calendar. @LGW59 is right, it has my tours I signed up for and ship calendar stuff. Used the App on our recent Solstice Alaska cruise and it was handy. Earlier, posters were complaining that it didnt notify you if someone texted you on the App, but it worked on Solstice. I went to the iPhone Settings and Notifications and turned it on for the Celebrity App. It doesnt beep or vibrate but a pop up shows up on the screen. I just wish we could add our own items to the App Calendar such as meeting friends and so on. Have to use the Celebrity App And the iPhone Calendar to keep stuff updated. But the Celebrity App is handy. den
  17. Noooooo!!! I booked a Sky Suite for the 1st time on a TA because of the number of Sea Days, and This is exactly what I was worried about!!! We booked Oceanview on our initial cruises, then Celebrity offered us a Balcony for ‘a few more bucks’ and of course, never went back….which was the point. Oh well. We needed a negative, whiny post on this otherwise nice, positive thread or the monitors will close it down. Den
  18. Yes, I’ve been in low-stakes poker and the classic ‘lets play a bit of Gin Rummy for just a bit for each point’ and found out….it Ain’t Low-Stakes. But Im sure our OP just wants to play poker with just a bit of an edge to it to keep it interesting. Been in ‘free’ games where some just stay in no matter what their hands are and takes away from the enjoyment. Den
  19. Been on Edge twice, prior to Pandemic and cruises were full, and on the Apex recently, and there were Many places to enjoy card games (no, not low-stakes or strip Poker!) and just socializing. Loved the Eden area with it quiet sitting areas along the wraparound walkway. I guess just different experiences or views. Den
  20. So nice to come back and that those that posted. den
  21. This reminded me of a post a few years ago. A woman said the reason she’d not use a ship laundry was because she didn’t want her clothes washed with other peoples’, saying “You have no idea what they’ve done in those clothes!”….. I couldn’t control myself. I pointed out that she should immediately cancel all cruises. Reminded her that the SR towels and robes are washed communally, and so are the SR sheets….and she didn’t Even want to think what people have done between those sheets! I didnt end and had to mention she should also stay out of all hotels, since…… For some reason she didnt appreciate my response. And here I was just trying to warn her!! Edit: Ive told this story before, but just cant keep from ‘sharing it’ one more time!!! den
  22. I’m like @chemmo, get the daily the night prior, or now check the App and mark all I want to do the next day: Trivia; wine tasting; games; dance instructions; great lectures….then I dont go to half of them as I sit and relax or meet people. The Celebrity common areas are great and thats one (of the many) thing(s) i love about Celebrity over other Lines. They do have Great Beyond the Podium lectures in the theater which are Not the “here is where to shop/what ship tours to take in the next port” fake lectures we’d get on so many other Lines. They are nature discussions, or ones on Hollywood or Broadway or such. Once had the US ambassador to Russia. Excellent, knowledgeable talks during the day, on many sea days. den
  23. Agree completely that we should go as we wish and what makes us Happy!. Personally I use a TA, but I pick a cruise, SR Type and most of the time, specific SR then call and make it. Why a TA when I do soooo much? 1. Services Beyond Booking. My TA (not some online booking agent which is all what some do is book you) provides support well beyond the cruise bookings. One example: Had a flight back from Ireland into JFK. Snowstorm hitting and didnt know it because airborne. TA saw my exact arrival time, booked me on a flight right after arrival and got out just before it closed. Most didn’t make it. 2. Better Pricing. Not only get the additional OBC, I just booked one onboard and transferred it to TA and they modified it to a Group booking. More than a $1K savings. 3. Quick Responses. My TA, local self-owned, has an office and team. They respond immediately. Not messages left. After Hrs, if need immediate help, they do it. Yes, if I want to change a SR when a ‘better’ one opens, I have to contact them and they do it. A few minutes more and yes, could lose it. But twice, My TA knowing what I like has highlighted types of SRs that I’d like and are booked, and gets notification before it shows up on website…and booked it immediately. 4. Saved Refund-twice. Got the Cruise Line to Not charge me my non-refundable when changed from one cruise to another…..”Do you really want to take his refund considering how many times they cruises with you? Seriously??” 5. Knowledge beyond mine (and most bookers who answer the phone…finallly). My TA is knowledable enough to answer most questions I’d ask the Line, or knows Better than me who to call. And they wait on line and do work instead of Me doing that. Checks Contract. I have a professional who looks at the specific booking/contract and makes sure I fully understand what it entails. What I get and as important, what I Dont get. Enough TA glory. Now when I book myself: 1. OBC of Line only. I miss any deals most all TAs have. Even independent TAs have are connected with some large Agency and have access to their Group bookings/OBCs/connections. 2. I get to start another ‘Waiting thread’ along with the other 1,316 threads on how long I’m on hold to ask a question or make a change. 3. On my own. If/When things get messed up, I’m on my own. When you book with some website, your contract in most cases are with them, not directly with the Line. Yes, Celebrity will make changes for you, but if there are issues, you’ll be working with some website that can be and is Tricky. Kind of like when we use some discount hotel booking site. Get to the hotel and there are either issues, such as ‘we moved you to another very nice hotel across town’ or the room isn’t what you expected. The hotel’s response to your issue(s): “Check with who you booked with.” Enough. Ive booked on my own directly with cruise lines, used discount websites, and 800 bookers. I found a professional Travel Advisor and it is working better than anything I did prior. And doesn’t cost me a dime; saves me money and especially time, and I have a professional who has my back. And NO, I am not a TA and never was one. Too much work and patience required listening to my issues. Den
  24. Heavier robe. Most cruises offer a day of boarding lunch at the MDR so you don’t have to join the large crowd at the Oceanview. And our last cruise, a bottle of bubbly. The in room breakfast menu listed a neat smoothie type item. den
  25. Why not? That’s what they do…..unless you have some on-line or other monster TA which is really a Booking Agent and after your booked, you are, as you are doing, on your own. My Travel Agent/Advisor provides All kinds of service and is quite happy to do it to keep their customers happy and give recommendations. And do it usually a better way than I would, And get the right answers by knowing who to actually ask. den
