  1. Or on the airplane itself when the flight crew turns off the a/c before the doors are even open?
  2. California. I was joking about the "mortgage", but there are loans/payments. Often no-finance charges if paid in full within two years. Can buy for cash of course, but even small plots of dirt in California can be expensive 🙃
  3. Does this mean when working, one stays in the room on the phone/laptop/video while the other relaxes on the balcony? Do you find that ocean internet is good enough for working? 😀
  4. Yeah, there's one party in our circle that says this. Most of the circle easily pivots from inside to balcony or higher. The pros/con on this thread could also be applied to flying international business class. Sure, it's nicer. It's also about 4 times the cash 😀
  5. Cemetery plots have "mortgages" too with interest rates and monthly payments 😀
  6. I'm a frequent flyer with high mileage balances, and yes, always pay taxes. The UK is very high on taxes and fees, about usd$150 each flight. Once, we stayed overnight in London due to connection times. Paying $300 for six hours of walking around London was as expensive as a ship excursion 😀
  7. You mean you made a deal for an upgrade at the port when checking in? Or at Guest Services?
  8. I agree. Just a slight amplification- the losses in a quarter are measured with billions. Royal Caribbean Reports 2022 Q1 Earnings, Loss of $1.2 Billion
  9. Staffing shortages enable surly staff, unfortunately. Perhaps staff is doing more tasks than they normally do. And/or the lines may have lowered the bar when hiring. Even after that, the surly staff know they can take advantage and get away with a certain amount of guff because the lines are desperate for staff. The flip side is that even with the imbalance, I haven't encountered any surly staff since the restart. Only wonderful people doing their jobs and doing it very well.
  10. It's not exactly the cruise lines, they are adhering to government requirements in the voluntary program. Though now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the cruise lines just throws up its hands and bows out of the program. They'll just take the "gray" ship status...
  11. Yep. High gasoline prices seem to have no effect either. The last time we had a gas shock, the highways were eerily empty. This time around, the roads looks the same, absolutely packed.
  12. Huh. I figured Royal didn't want to cancel it, but just let the engagement run out. Extending it? Probably the even Cats fans don't want to see it that many more times.
  13. I guess it's like Cats 😀 A lot of polarized opinions here... It's like we're not talking about the same cruise line!
  14. Does that traffic jam also affect drop offs? Cruise line transfer, private van, Uber, Lyft, taxi etc
  15. I hate the 100 display limit for Amex deals. I also used to add a bunch of offers to get more to show up, but it I quickly got burned out.
  16. Probably because production shows are a big draw for many. Bingo, not so much 😀 A better example if the MDR really was horrible. Or the buffet was really horrible.
  17. I'm the same way. And it doesn't change when I'm sailing. The waiters usually try to push stuff on me, but I don't budge. I like to start with a healthy breakfast. Boring to many I guess, but I like it. That's my thing, everyone is different. All bets are off for lunch and dinner in port or onboard though 😀
  18. That's my recollection too. There's a stable set of choices that are offered daily. Like salmon, a chicken dish, and a beef dish. Most of the menu changes daily. I sailed on NCL Encore last fall early in the restart. EDIT: Here's a 2021 menu from beyondships. It shows six "classic entrees" that are offered daily. Six special ones are "today's featured entrees".
  19. Would quarantine costs be covered under travel interruption coverage? Thanks for the info and patience with my newbie questions.
  20. Single trip insurance has particular timing requirements related to booking date, final payment date, etc. How about Annual plans? Does it have to be in force when the reservation is made, or just when you are actually traveling?
  21. Excuse my newbie question, but what level plan did you get from Allianz?
  22. What's that old saying... insurance companies are very eager when accepting your money. On the paying out part, not so much.
  23. Just to clarify, in case someone a year from now searches and finds this post, I'm pretty sure this is referring to Norwegian Air Shuttle. Not Norwegian cruise line 🙃
  24. Had a lots of fun doing this. It does take awhile to drive there, 2 hours sounds like a proper amount of time to budget.
