  1. If you have a lot of shore days it would probably be difficult to break even. However saying that a lot of Aussies see the 15 drinks a day maximum as a challenge. Lol
  2. Some countries require a certain number of blank pages in your passport before granting entry. Get a souvenir notebook and get the souvenir stamps in that.
  3. Going through JFK in August immigration officer had issues with my passport photo. “It doesn’t look like you”. Hmm it’s 10 years old, I didn’t have grey hair then and I’ve had minor facial surgery for skin cancers. I’ve also added a few wrinkles. Plus just had two x 14 hour flights with a 10 hour stopover. Eventually decided it was ok and put me through. Hate to think what he would make of my new passport photo I look like a runaway from a nursing home.
  4. That’s like a late lunch.
  5. 2019 world cruise received exceptionally generous move over offer. I had already organised house sitters for pets and other stuff so declined. I know a lady who accepted the offer and transferred to WC 2020, well we know what appended there. She never got to do WC and had to argue with Princess to be able to use her future cruise credit when cruising resumed. I am so pleased I just refused the offer and went. Saw so many things and enjoyed every bit.
  6. Some years ago as part of world cruise we sailed across Atlantic. Heard horror stories of what we could expect. It was delightful weather and very calm seas. Go figure. Check weather forecasts and long range forecasts, cross your fingers and enjoy whatever the weather.
  7. My Mum got her driver’s licence at 65 after my Dad died. She drove for a couple of years. When she decided not to drive anymore it was safe to say the population of the country town she lived in cheered. Lol
  8. The wonderful thing about cruising is there is a right time for everyone. What suits one doesn’t suit all.
  9. Bite the bullet and just go, whatever the outcome it’s in your hands.
  10. No idea why they are called fun runs. Doesn’t look like fun to me. Lol
  11. If we wanted to go to a show we would let them know, but just a general comment about the service in MDR in general.
  12. I often cruise with either of my adult children BUT I have over 200 days of solo cruising as well. It is the best, do what YOU want when you want, join in activities and you will be surprised how friendly other passengers are. If you are comfortable on your own and don’t need someone around all the time you will enjoy it. As the saying goes Just do it. You will be fine. Take ship excursions if you don’t feel comfortable doing your own thing at ports. I hope you go it alone and have the best time.
  13. Seems lots of new staff who have not received full training, probably the same in the galley. We got to the stage on Caribbean where we would leave after main course and have coffee and dessert in buffet. Staff were lovely just disorganised and didn’t seem to be sure of what they were doing.
  14. Oops, you are of course correct. I will now take myself to the naughty corner and remind myself of the value of proofreading before clicking the post button
  15. It must have been the grey hair and the confused look. Lol
  16. Always someone at the Kmarts I visit.
  17. Eftpos Electronic Funds Statement Point Of Sale
  18. I had the opposite problem at the Buenos Aires zoo. I tried to pay with a 100 peso note, but she didn’t have enough change for me so I had to stand aside till some more people paid and she had change. Lol The exchange rate at that time meant 100 pesos was worth approx $25 AUD.
  19. I also travel on my own. I always take at least two credit cards, just in case. I would be reluctant to take large sums of money with me. However I always take some local currency for places I will be visiting. I would be having strong words with my bank if this is a recurring problem.
  20. Years ago on a world cruise I was next to a lady who “won” at the auction. When she found out how much it was going to cost to frame and send her prize, she told them they could keep it. Lol
  21. Don’t bother asking, the stuff they give you is foul. The cheapest of the cheap.
  22. Thank you it’s been a while since I was there. Hopefully this system will benefit the locals.
  23. On the islands in PNG there is no way to exchange $AUD to Kina, ie no banks. An agent comes over from mainland and will exchange it for the locals at an exorbitant rate, it is easy to get Kina before you travel, most foreign exchange places in big shopping centres will do it, or order through your bank in advance. These people have enough to deal with without being ripped off when they try to earn a few dollars.
  24. When I am asked to tip i arc up and generally don’t. One tour guide in LA made a special announcement, we have Aussies on board, just letting you know you tip me and the driver. Yeah, driver got a tip, but guide no especially after a stop in Hollywood where we were ushered into a store and I saw him receive a “thank you bonus”. I remember a European bus tour many years ago when we had seven currencies. No plastic then.
