  1. Safe travels to all flying and driving today.  Procedure at 11:30 recovery within an hour.  Expecting the best outcome.  His wife called last night to let me know she is capable of taking care of dad for a week and that we should continue our trip.  Jim will go there to install shower bar and take things from here he may want or need.  Let’s get this show on the road.  May not make it to Dania for happy hour but will do our best.

  2. Today things started out promising with good news and a discharge order for my dad. One more ekg then he get dressed and leave. He finished the test was unhooked from everything, new heart monitor all set up and ready to go home. Walking out the unit door and nurse practitioner came running after him to say nope you can’t leave.  6 1/2 hours later what I expected became the reality.  Doctor has order pacemaker to be placed  tomorrow sometime. His dear wife says what does this do to your trip. My dad says just go have fun. Told them not going anywhere until doctor answers questions. Dr gone for the day and hospitalist deferred all questions back to surgeon when we see him. He is gone for the day. What are we doing?  No ideas. Haven’t packed a thing, need nails done, need to pick up sunscreen and a couple of other things.  They were all on my list to do today.  So no idea at this time if we will cancel or go.  All depends on surgeons answers to my questions and how procedure goes. Praying it is at 6am. Going to bed now so I can get up and be there early.

I started training last night. Once we hit Georgia tomorrow afternoon, I'll workout each day up until the cruise. Patti may do some light weights pre cruise, but she's an unknown entity once the cruise starts. :classic_biggrin:

I can’t keep up with the mocha chocolate get always!  I’m ready for cheers!  Will likely have a few tonight to get some sleep before our 3:15 wake up call to get dad to the hospital at 4:30. Surgery at 6:30 and recovery to begin by 8am.  His wife gets in sometime tonight. So she will take the reins over tomorrow.  She gets to be the rehab director.

  6. Taking it one day at a time here.  Will find out the time of Thursday ’s valve replacement surgery Wednesday afternoon.  Dad had a rough few days but seems better today.  His primary doctor works with me and I grabbed him after our meeting Thursday morning and showed him lab results (not at all good) from Tuesday and asked if I could double diuretic to try to keep him out of the hospital.  Kidney function was very high so I wouldn’t dare without his approval.  He agreed we had to try something and it seems to have helped. He went to the store with me this afternoon and didn’t get short of breath.  Big improvement from Wednesday where he became short of breath walking up the 5 garage stairs into the house. Now we wait to see if his wife can make it back driving from New York. She is supposed to leave Monday after storms but Tuesday is looking pretty crappy as well. I have been picking up stuff to pack and had my hair done today.  Not giving up hope of cruising yet!  Primary doctor appointment Monday I’ll take him. Cardiologist Tuesday to get heart monitor for post op, Jim will go with him for that one. Then surgery Thursday.  Hoping Jim can can hangout at husband daycare.

  7. Finally got the call back late this afternoon about my dads surgery.  It is scheduled for the 11th.  He will stay in the hospital one or two days. He goes home with a heart monitor for two weeks. The information is monitored by the hospital and they will call him to go in if there is any concerns with his heart function. Funny thing is I believe he is more concerned with wearing the heart monitor for two weeks than the surgery.  Wanted to know how he was supposed to shower with that stupid thing, how will he sleep since it wakes him up when he rolls over.  He has been feeling pretty well since he came home with us from the hospital.  His wife is due back next Wednesday before the surgery.  We will wait and see still but start packing Sunday and pray for the best. May cancel Saturday night hotel since we can drive down to Miami day off.

  8. Crab cakes look great.  We had lobster tails, sautéed shrimp, and steak with baked potatoes as a side. No pics everyone here was hangry for dinner. We stayed low sodium for dad but didn’t count cholesterol tonight. Was a good final dinner for this crazy year.  Now to try out the smoker for smoked manhattans and smoked old fashions.  I’ll stick with the wine.  Happy New Year to all.

  9. @odie1024 I’m sorry to hear about your sister. I’m sure she felt your presence.  Glad your BF is taking the right steps to get healthy. May you health concerns be minor.

@JGmf sorry you dad is in the hospital.  Luckily my dad is here from New York as he has been in the hospital twice in just over a month with the same issues.  First time three stents. Now he is awaiting a new aortic valve the week of the 8th.

Im sure hoping 2024 is better to everyone.

  10. I think dad’s surgeons office was closed today.  Their phones were not on when I spoke to the appointment scheduler and she had to send a message to the scheduling person and I also had a medication question she was messaging the nurse to call me about. No calls and I’m sure it will be Tuesday before receive a call back. I can always call my team doc from work if I need to about the medication question.  Jim and I are looking at what we will pack once we can convince the scheduler to book him for the 9th.
Thank you all for the prayers and support.

  11. Checked in at midnight got A01.  I

have left message for cardiosurgeon’s nurse and scheduler to call me back.  Fingers crossed insurance approved comes back quick and valve replacement can be scheduled for 8th or 9th. Then we will be ok to go.  First 48 hours post surgery are the most important in his full recovery. He should start feeling much better by then and discharge home with his wife who should be back in Florida by then. Praying and fingers crossed everything works out so we can cruise. I really need the week away!

  12. My dad is still in the hospital.  He needs aortic valve replacement but the docs are concerned with his risk level of surviving surgery.  They have been putting this off since May thinking stents would improve blood flow with that improving valve. Cardiology Department head went off and said when cardio surgeons do that patients have a low survival rate one year post stents.  He was very honest and blunt telling us dad may now be too high risk to do surgery.  Today was all preop tests and consults.  Main test left CT from pelvic area up to heart mapping how surgery should proceed. All other docs cleared him and cardiac team will be last to decide if they think they can do the surgery successfully.  Hoping for more positive news tomorrow and the schedule for surgery quickly so he can be home and well on the road to recovery by the Tribe Cruise.  Thank you all for prayers, thoughts, and support.     Pat

  13. Merry Christmas all!  What a Christmas Eve, second hymn in at church and look over to see my dad holding his chest and sweating.  Out to the lobby, a nitro, and off to the ER via ambulance.  Not sure if another congestive heart failure exasperation or pneumonia,  Fluid in lungs and around heart. Treating for both.  We got home just after midnight once they had a room and awaiting transport. Now getting dinner prepped and will start day with kids at 10 go to hospital to visit then home to see grandchildren.  Hoping he will get booted out in time for 4:00 dinner here with family.  Today will be much better…. Ready for the Tribe Cruise and Cheers!
