  1. I have 2 more sunsets as my 2015 Prinsendam European cruise approaches the end. June 14 was a sea day from Foynes to LeHavre: Roy
  2. @grapau27 like Tina @0106 I've done 10 Panama Canal cruises in several months (Jan, Feb, Apr, August, Nov, and Dec) and never had an insect problem except perhaps for one time when I went deep into the jungle on a canoe. Roy
  3. Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Dixie, Debbie, and Ann. Happy Hump Day and happy Flag Day for our US Dailyites. I'll pass on the Bourbon, celebrate Family History. Happy Birthday to the Army. That was one LONG baseball game. I've had a number of moments I'd love to freeze in time. I've been to Red Bay briefly on a 2000 land trip but hardly got out of the coach while we looked through the windows. I do remember a lot of bugs there. Prayers for all our dailyites with health issues, especially Tana and @smitty34877 DH. I am mystified by the meal My alternative is Sun Ripened Pineapple Delight, Basel Crusted Veal Rack, and Tiramisu as served on MS Prinsendam June 14, 2015. Roy
  4. I took a second look at seat61 and see something I think I could endorse. It's his Option 3 for travel Amsterdam to Oslo, a train connection to Kiel and a ferry from there to Oslo. I did something fairly similar in 2019, disembarking Nieuw Statendam in Amsterdam, train to Kiel, and Queen Victoria to Southampton and QM2 to New York. He mentions 2 train changes to Kiel (Osnabruck and Hamburg) but I only needed to change at Osnabruck. That was the toughest part for me. He also mentions the Atlantic Hotel which i loved. This is my blog entry fro the day I went to Kiel: https://getawaysfrom21044.wordpress.com/2019/05/08/day-nsplus2-tuesday-may-7-amsterdam-to-kiel/ I hope I haven't robbed you of the thrill of the hunt. Roy
  5. I highly endorse seat61, although it I didn't find anything I thought helpful there in your situation. I did see DFDS has a ferry from Imuiden to Newcastle, and Fred Olson has cruises from there to Norway although I didn't see Oslo on any of their itineraries. Are you looking at Zuiderdam May 11, 2024. Her next port is Oslo. I'm guessing you want to spend more than a day there. Roy
  6. Options are limited at least if baggage is a consideration. One possibility that could come to mind is QM2 for May 5-23, 2024 NY/Shouthampton/Hamburg/Southampton/New York) The issue at least for HAL is that they seldom if ever turnaround in the UK. Roy
  7. And that's about it. Thanks Leanne, Lou & Dave, and fellow addicts. Roy
  8. Do any of your venues have a virtual platform? I know Baltimore Symphony has a virtual site where people can watch performances via computer, sometimes as they are happening, and for a period of time afterwards. It is free to subscribers, I think free to certain level donors, and also available for purchase. It could be a way for some people to re-connect with the music they love while not needing to go for a lot of travel., and also generate some revenue for the organization. I am getting that way but have subscribed for a series of 3 concerts that are an hour earlier than most and also somewhat shorter than others, so I am not coming home late at night. A win-win for me. https://offstage.bsomusic.org/ I think the "Lunch Bachs" series is open without a subscription. Roy
  9. Since somewhere around 2014 it's been "Walk for A Cause" rather than "Walk for THE Cure" after about 2014 when Susan G Komen dropped support of Planned Parenthood. Komen has apparently copyrighted "Cure" and also possibly "the" in this context. The current (up to Ukraine) distribution was to several cancer causes in the countries where the majority of HAL passengers originate. When I walked on the Eurodam last year it was particularly moving as one of the crew leaders had been on the Volendam directly serving Ukrainian refugees. Roy
  10. Back to a sunrise today but still from the 2015 Prinsendam voyage. On June 13 we visited Foynes, Ireland, down the River Shannon a bit from Limerick: Roy

  12. Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. Welcome home @puppycanducruise. 650 years is a LONG time to honor a treaty I weed only when there;s no alternative and haven't touched either a sewing machine or a softball in decades. I like the Brown quote, and have been to Key West many times, even getting a couple of times to the Mallory Square dock, I suspect the meal is too spicy for me. My alternative is Chilled Bannana Soup, Tossed Seasonal Greens, and Chicken with Dried Cranberries and Orange Relish as served on MS Prinsendam June 13, 2015. Congratulations @catmando on the tough decision to give up smoking. Roy
  13. Looks like Eurodam and Koningsdam are about to be bow to bow. Roy
  14. I think Oceania Rivera is at anchor. And yes, Eurodam is appearing. Roy
  15. 4 PM Zoom meeting today but I may get to see Eurodam's arrival. Nice that the blocker will be Koningsdam and will come after Eurodam. Roy
  16. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing here. I do agree that the bottom line is that it's likely best to do the full 7 day and then Denali later but it looks very do-able to me, at least from a legal statement. I see only 3 Vancouver itieraries for HAL. The 7-day Vancouver-Whittier (Nieuw Amsterdam and Noordam) and the 7-day round trip (Currently Volendam and Koningsdam). The 7 day Vancouver-Whittier is the obvious choice but that is apparently not under consederation. There are 3 potential possibilities with the 7-day round trip, all involving Skagway. The most obvious choice is continuing from or to a Holland America. Number 2 is an alternate land package. I did that in 2002 with a Canadian tour company, flying to Inuvik in the far Northwest Territories and traveling South on the Dempster Highway to Dawson City and then boarding the Zaandam in Juneau. It is also possible to rent a car in Skagway and drive to Denali (I did this many years ago although I used the ferry rather than a cruise ship. Obviously, the facilities and CPB capacity is there for this to happen so the question boils down to what HAL will allow. Even for continuing to a HAL tour, I wonder if HAL would allow it for one occupant of a stateroom while the other stays on the ship and how the pricing would work. At this point I know of no possible alternate land tours and I doubt if HAL would allow it to Denali in competition with their own offerings. I think the self drive is possible but am not convinced if HAL would allow it and if so doubt the possibility of any fare adjustment. The one place I see potential legal troubles would be if friend just got off while CPB was expecting a return to the ship. Lots of theoretical possibilities but why not just finish the 7-day and enjoy Denali either afterwards or at another time. Roy
  17. Yet another sunset today from my 2012 Prinsendam European cruise. On June 12 we visited Galway, Ireland. Roy

  19. Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. While I like peanuts, not so much peanut butter or cookies. I'll pass on the jerky and while I enjoy roses won't go out of my way to get them. It was a huge win for the country to get Al Capone indicted. I have not been to Sham El Sheikh Happy Birthday @catmando ! I love the Dessen quote. No idea what the meal is. My alternative is Chilled Pineapple Pina Colada Soup, Classic Caesar Salad and Broiled New York Strip Loin as served on MS Prinsendam June 12, 2015. I won't get much done today. Oral Surgeon consult, thunderstorms, and 2 zoom meetings, church and then fire department. Roy
  20. The last sailing or the last revenue sailing? I'm pretty sure Rotterdam's last transit was through the new locks, providing support to the Zaandam. New locks used because Panama did not want to have any more people than absolutely necessary onboard and the ships went through I think without any lines at all. Roy
  21. Welcome home. Now that you're back are you willing to share what ship you were on? Roy
  22. I have another sunset today from my 2015 Prinsendam cruise. On June 11 we visited Killybegs, Ireland. Roy
