  1. Today's sunrise is land based from my 2012 Celebrity Solstice transatlantic. On April 13 I was in Fort Lauderdale awaiting the start of the cruise, a much nicer day in Fort Lauderdale than this April 13: Roy

  3. I would have thought that N Amsterdam would have dynamic positioning and not need to use the anchor at all. I assume the dining room was opened up for some additional seating. Roy
  4. Good luck. Sure don't like what I see about South Florida. Roy
  5. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie. I will celebrate some plants but curse others. Bookmobiles are vary valuable and while I would love a peach cobbler it won't happen. I'm a bit surprised that Messiah premiered in spring since it is now largely associated with Advent. I have not been to Monte Carlo. I prefer the full version of today's quote. I'll pass on the meal due to the pepper. My alternative is Pineapple, Kiwi, Strawberry, Arroz Con Polla, and Triple Berry Sundae as served on MS Zaandam April 13, 2017: Roy
  6. We've had 2 recent compound "Ports of the Day", Puerto Caldera/Costa Rica and Amber Cove/Puerto Plata. Altar Do Chao/Santarem could almost be a third. Altar Do Chao sits about 20 miles up the Rio Tapajos from Santarem which sits at the confluence with the Amazon. I visited both cities in 2013 and 2019 on the Prinsendam and both ties visited Santarem headed towards Manaus and Altar Do Chao on the way back. I did not really see a lot of Altar Do Chao and was not especially impressed with what I did see. In 2013 I visited Tapajos National Forest from Santarem and then had a "Highlights of Santarem" tour when we stopped at Altar Do Chao on the way back. In 2019 I did walk around Altar Do Chao but the highlight was the departure. That day MS Veendam was visiting Santarem and it was the last time Prinsesndam and Veendam as BHB's and both Captains made it a great celebration with toots galore, cameras flashing and the Veendam following us until she turned upstream towards Manaus. Here's my blog post from that day: https://morethangetaways.wordpress.com/2019/03/14/day-p68-wednesday-march-13-2019-alter-do-chao-brazil/ Roy
  7. I have stayed in one and it was fine for me. A couple notes of caution. First, since they are far forward the area where they sit slopes so the further back you can get among the cabins you can get the larger your cabin will be. The other caution is about pricing, Since there are few single cabins sometimes supply and demand makes them more expensive than other cabins. What I tend to do is just set my number of passengers to one and see what the prices are. Roy
  8. Mine is only 5 years ago. Today I have a sunset rather than a sunrise. It's from my 2018 Crystal World Cruise. On April 12 Crystal Symphony was docked on an overnight in Lima. Roy

  10. Thank you Rich,, Sandi, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann, and happy Hump Day. We've had far more than our fair share of winds lately. My niece is a lawyer. I enjoy a good cheese sandwich but prefer a bit of ham added to the mix. Great oxymoron by Goldwyn.. Been to Altar Do Chao twice, both times on MS Prinsendam. The meal is interesting. My alternative is Chilled Blackberry Soup, Gourmet Greens, and Grilled Lamb Chops with Oregano and Apple Chutney as served on MS Amsterdam April ,12, 2014. Roy
  11. A shame @richwmn won't get to Brest. He might have laid eyes on MS Renaissance, nee Maasdam, being readied for a new career. Roy
  12. @Judypops multi-quoting only comes into play if you are responding to a number of people all at once. You don't need to do that unless you want to and you are certainly welcome to participate in whatever way works best for you. Roy
  13. Are there 3 of you in one room? If so I would suggest a maximum of 2 hard sided suitcases as one can fit under each side of the bed. I would suggest something like a backpack or soft sided bag for the 3rd person which can go inside one of the other bags; Roy
  14. Way too close to your cruise for this to be happening. Roy
  15. Is it still July 31? That would be about 111 days. Roy
  16. Today's sunrise is another from that 2014 MS Amsterdam voyage from Cape Town to Fort Lauderdale. April 11 was a sea day from Ascension Island to Praia, Cape Verde: Roy

  18. Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa (and Eva), Debbie, Ann, and Dixie. No pets but I enjoy Barbershop Quartets and had an 8-track player for many years. The signing of the Civil Rights Bill was a great moment in our history. I have been to Fiji several times but not today's port. I like the quote but will pass on the meal. My alternative is Chilled Strawberry Bisque, Grilled Molasses Lamb Chops, and Banana Ice Cream as served on MS Zaandam April 11, 2017: Roy
  19. Silence on one, growls on 2 and great toots on 3. Well done Oosterdam and wishing all aboard a great crossing. Thanks Leanne, Lou & Dave, and fellow addicts. Roy
  20. @JazzyV I know your cruise is coming soon and you've done a fantastic job and have left BIG shoes to follow. I probably COULD return to the lists but would be very open to someone else picking it up at least for a while. While I am somewhat stronger it still tokes me a long time to get organized and whatever lists I come up with could be delayed for quite a while some mornings. Roy
  21. Hope Oosterdam holds off until after my meeting. Roy
  22. That's why I recommended the Tracy Arm Excursion on the way into Juneau. A more intimate glacier viewing opportunity that I thought was at least as good as Glacier Bay. Unless one has time to do what I did. Cruise first leaving Vancouver on Wednesday in time to arrive Anchorage just in time to sail from Whitter (then Seward) back to Vancouver. Roy
  23. Right now Oosterdam is hidden behind buildings and trees. Web cam will pick it up as she passes the spot where Vision was docked. Roy
