  1. A DISTANT foreign port (in the eyes of the PVSA) is any port that is NOT in North America, Central America, the Bermuda Islands, or the West Indies (including the Bahama Islands, but not including the Leeward Islands of the Netherlands Antilles, i.e., Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao). Vancouver is in North America.
  2. Exactly. This was my first thought when I read that post. It's not rare that a cruise line will allow B2B bookings that actually turn out to be illegal. Then they contact you later and say "cancel one leg". Often when you will wind up losing money with other travel plans tied to the B2B.
  3. It's still not working for me. I'm able to get there using incognito, and Edge works for me (neither of which are what I used to use to access the site).
  4. I don't see cruising (especially long ones) as a "lower-cost way to see the world". I've been on several long cruises, and by day 25 I'm ready to be back home. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from taking longer cruises than 25 days.....
  5. It's difficult to let them hear from us, if we can't get through on the website.
  6. I did a search on one of the travel insurance comparisons websites when we were looking for one.
  7. If that's where you provide a routing number from your bank account to pay for the cruise, then there was at least one other cruise line that did that - Vantage (yeah, I know, look what happened with that). We could get a varied discount (lower percentage the closer to cruise) if we used that method, OR we could use a credit card with no discount.
  8. I'm curious as to what they're considering "driving distance". With 7 days notice, you can pretty much drive anywhere.
  9. When we went (some years ago) we needed no visas. But things can change.
  10. Third party insurance. It costs less and, generally, has better coverage.
  11. You'll see all manner of dress on any given night, "formal" night or otherwise.
  12. I'm firmly in the "longer is better" camp. So I'd be looking at the 8 night one.
  13. Are both cruises the same length? What time of year?
  14. Once you board the ship, you are no longer "in" any country, but are considered "on foreign soil". Medical expenses onboard ships are typically charged to your onboard account. If you seek medical care while in port, you will be charged whatever their costs are on the spot.
  15. Well, sort of, my parents played big band music A LOT when I was growing up. I find my music appreciation tends to be from the late 30s to about early 70s.
  16. Just tried to get in. For a few seconds it looked "normal" like it was connecting, then went to faded background with spinning wheel.... I really need to book excursions, guess I'll be going the incognito route also.
  17. Exactly. In fact movies shown in prime time seem to have quite a few people taking a nap during them. In my experience.
  18. Me, either. While I like dancing in shows, I don't feel the Step One shows are what I'd call "big" entertainment. More like a dance studio recital.
  19. Ah, but how do I get on the HAL site? That's the issue I'm having.
  20. This is what I'm getting - greyed out background and the ever spinning wheel of death
  21. I haven't been able to connect with HAL website for several days. I tried the incognito window, and, while I was able to at least get to the home page on the website, when I clicked on a link to get information it gave me a "sorry, we're having issues" window.
  22. The water available for purchase onboard - is it in cans (pop-top variety) or those aluminum bottles (resealable)?
