NCL must be following Cruise Critic ..... see updated Prohibited Items list

    https://www.ncl.com/prohibited-items

    #31 now reads

     31. All types of fans with the exception of small electrical and battery-operated fans. *Please note, these fans are subject to confiscation by the ship’s security team for inspection and approval.

Excellent (or Fantastic)!   For whatever reason NCL changed the rule, makes all the difference on cruising for us.  Now, for those of you, including the one smart remark, who don't understand this issue's importance to many of us, my wife truly has a need for a small fan in the cabin, can't function comfortably without it.  And when she is out and around, she will always have a fold out fan in her hand.  That's the way it it.  I can now tell her we can cruise again.

I am a long time NCL cruiser and currently Diamond Latitude.  I read recently on cruise critic that NCL has now started added all types of fans to their prohibited list.  I would respectfully ask that NCL Corporate re-evaluate this decision or at least amend it.

I take a small battery (using D batteries) operated fan or USB fan with me on vacation  I have done this for the past 10 years since a entered menopause.  I also use a fan at home and have not slept without a fan blowing on me for 10 years.  I will not be able to sleep without a fan which means that I will no longer be able to go on NCL cruises.

I can understand banning electric fans, but to ban battery operated or USB operated fans makes no sense and will certainly impact many people's cruising decisions.  Please rethink this decision or at least allow those of us who need a fan to sleep to be allowed to at least bring a battery or USB operated fan onboard with a doctor's note.   There are many of us for who a fan is a medical necessity in order to sleep.

Here is the e-mail I sent basically I'm just asking them to re-evaluate no matter what prompted them to make the decision in the first place.

Exactly.  I emailed also.  And for my wife, it is a must have.  No fan, no cruise.  After 25 NCL, I told them no more.  Might sound stupid for most folks, but unless you have the fan issue, you would not understand how important it is.

  3. NCL!  Give a clear and non silly "why" a small USB fan is now prohibited.  And, no one size fits all BS.  I'm not the brightest kid in town by any means.  So I'm probably just overlooking a very obvious and significant reason they should not be operated on a cruise ship.  But, having used one for years, even though they are made in China by little school kids, I personally just don't see the issue.  Maybe it's like not bringing on you own personal water or soft drinks anymore because they constitute a threat to the safety of the ship, oh wait, that turned out to be a profit issue, but clue me in.  I'm dense, so explain it clearly please.

  4. I imagine NCL has a huge room filled with confiscated fans then.  I'm sue that most long time cruisers, or new ones, do not monitor this and making an assumption the small hand held battery fans are ok like they have always been in the past.  We've carried them for my wife on 25 cruises so far, and I never would have now checked to see if they are prohibited.  Realizing this sounds silly, but no fan, no cruise.  It's a must have for my wife.

  5. We were on the Jewel, Jan 7th cruise.  Got home on the 14th.   Last night my wife developed a sore throat.  This morning a splitting headache and slight fever.  Has tested twice for Covid today, positive.  I feel fine and tested twice, negative.  Anyone else on that cruise might take a test just in case.  A bunch of the crew were getting off for their 3 month break.    With this rapid spread of the latest virus, we might be seeing masks and vaccination certificates necessary on cruises again.

  6. As we were about to exit the ship last morning last week.  We handed our room card to security for exit scanning.  He looked at them and said follow him, pointing to a security guard standing there.  The security guard, as we stepped out of line, said go into that rooms as he pointed to one nearby.  I thought has the FBI caught up with all my past sins, or had my wife been doing something bad on the sly.  I entered the room and the guy sitting at a table said sign the receipt and I'll refund your money.  I'm now really thinking "what the hell"!   Turns out I had some unused refundable OBC on my account.  I signed and he reached in a money drawer and handed me $33, and the security guard then escorted us back to number one in line again.   Ya never know.     Oh, was San Diego and going through immigrations, as we left the ship, no passports were required. They use face ID and it takes about 10 seconds.  Does speed up the process a bunch.

  7. On the Jewel last week, there would be a small sign posted advertising the three ice cream flavors of the day.  I never checked so maybe that means in addition of the basic flavors.  I just use the soft serve machines frequently.

Thanks! Is there more wine than just this list? I don't see any of my favorites unfortunately. I'm also 😞 that the Moscato isn't available by the glass.

I don't really know.  None of my favorite whiskey/bourbons were on the list or in the bars either.

  9. On the Jewel. Gotta say best cruise ship pizza I’ve ever had in the Garden Cafe.  As good as the chain pizzas easily.  Crust excellent and like brick oven type.  Lots of good cheese and plenty of ingredients.   Maybe just the Jewel, maybe just this pizza chef, maybe just lucked or. So don’t book just on my pizza review.     Ensenada, don’t know why we stop here.  Port totally industrial.   Must take 15 minute shuttle to get into any of the actual town.  I just stayed on the ship…..and ate more pizza…and an ice cream cone.   Oh, those built at the port are either port workers or empty.

Woodford Reserve at 23$ is insane!

My feelings exactly.  I had some OBC to use and got a pour, no water, no ice.  It could not have been more than a very measured one ounce. I signed for an additional $9.60 on top of my $15 drink

    package allowance.   Insane!

  11. On the Jewel.  As usual, love the ship, love the crew.  However, NCL whiskey and bourbon, what little the have, priced crazy.  True I do have the $15 max drink package. But the lowly Bullitt neet $16 an ounce.  Buffalo Trace $16, and Woodford Reserve $23 an ounce.  The only one they have now under is JD#7 at $15.   But, the pizza in the buffet is the best cruise ship pizza I’ve ever had.  Guess I’ll eat pizza instead of drink.

  12. Eliminating  positions but not the service charge amount.

This will involve a consolidation of staff roles as the stateroom steward and junior stateroom steward positions will be adjusted to a single job title in stateroom attendant.

The company said in the letter that the elimination of these position will phase out over time, allowing crew to complete current contracts.
