  1. Might not hurt to dig a bit deeper to see if the manufacturer deals with any specific retailers - oftentimes there’s a bit of brand-sharing going on out there…
  2. That’s a good question. Short of calling Regent directly (2% chance of finding the correct answer, IMO) or finding someone who has sailed in that cabin I couldn’t really tell you…
  3. Oh, I wrote the cost of that off as soon as I read their refund policy last week…not even gonna try.
  4. I'll take some of the credit for this as it was announced less than 14 hours after we submitted and paid for our visa applications. 🤣 Apparently my 2024 is gonna be a lot like my 2023. I guess as long as it's not like 2020 I won't complain, though.
  5. The last time I saw a reduced fare on one of our booked cruises, I contacted our TA who had already contacted Regent. They honored the lower price. Makes me wonder what they'd do if the customer or TA didn't ask... 🤔
  6. No reviews in yet on 800 on any of the three Explorer class ships, unfortunately - but from looking at the deck plans it appears to have a smaller balcony. And other front-facing cabin reviews have complained about the wind, which I personally think would be a definite issue. If you plan on using the balcony, especially if you have a lot of sea days, I'd probably opt for a standard side-facing PH cabin.
  7. Several possible reasons for this - one, lost luggage. Two, willful disobedience. 🙂 Three, last night onboard. The dress code is relaxed on the final night, but still - shorts? C'mon, man, be better. I'd say that the staff should enforce the dress code, but they may make exceptions for lost luggage as was the case for me on one cruise. Took five days for my luggage to catch up with the ship. Of course, I had time to buy some things in Copenhagen but I still tried to do the Pool lounge or room service most evenings until my bags got on board. I've seen dress code violations and I try not to let it bother me, but it still does. I guess it's a combination of getting old and being retired military. I mean, really, it's a pretty simple and lax dress code to begin with - shouldn't be that hard to adhere to. But some people...
  8. Navigator is a polarizing ship - some people love her, some don't. Yes, she's kind of old and rattles a bit. Sometimes more than a bit. But our first Regent cruise was on Navigator and we've sailed her several times and although you give up a little in the glitz and extra dining options you make up for it in an intimacy you don't get on the newer ships. Not crowded, but just more friendly somehow. And I just looked at this thread title and realized that I'm off-topic. 🙂 Sorry!!
  9. Another caveat on these is that if you bump up from a veranda suite to a concierge suite, you get the suite (same size/layout) but NOT all of the amenities such as the included pre-cruise hotel night. I'm not sure, you may get the extra WiFi logins, but it isn't that great of an incentive, IMO, especially if you're Silver of above and get the extra logins already...
  10. My wife and I will be partaking in the fitness options more than normal - on our previous dozen or so Regent cruises, hitting the fitness center was hit-or-miss, and we'd walk the deck for a mile or two, tops - but over the last year we've both lost a bit of weight (65 and 85 lbs) and we don't want to let it creep back on during this upcoming cruise, especially considering that this will be our longest cruise yet. We're both pretty good about motivating ourselves, but if there are any classes it would sure be a help - but sadly, we don't know what's available!! I guess we'll see when we're on board next month.
  11. Eh, it wouldn't be Cruise Critic without drama and First World problems, now would it? 😄 I usually just scan through threads like this and move on...but really, I'd like to know of one luxury cruise line - or any cruise line, really - that hasn't had itinerary changes and/or communication problems and/or disgruntled customers. I daresay there are none.
  12. @Gray Lady I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. It's a sad fact that as we age we all have to deal with these things. I hope you both can keep your eyes on the future and that you both get to take that cruise you had to postpone. I think having a goal is very helpful... I did want to suggest joining in the Roll Call for this sailing if you haven't already. I'm sure folks on there would be happy to post photos and stories for you both. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  13. On the Explorer-class ships the F2 cabins are the sweet spot for us. The Concierge perks aren't usually enough to entice us to pony up the extra $$ (££, €€. whatever) - but - we're Gold so have some of the perks included, and we have upped to Concierge on occasion to get the included pre-cruise night in the hotel. Doing that keeps your transfers in place which can be nice depending on your departure city. Short answer? For us, generally not worth it - F2 is out favorite. But there are exceptions.
  14. Oh, and by the way - the title of this thread is also misleading - there's nothing 'going on with the Voyager' - there's something going on with Regent not communicating an itinerary change. Nothing wrong with the ship as the title leads you to believe. I clicked on this thread solely because I'm sailing on Voyager next month and thought there was a problem with the ship. Seems like a bait-and-switch to me...
  15. I think I have to side with papaflamingo on this one (not that there are only two 'sides', but you get my drift). It did sound a bit like TheRampantSnail was accusing Regent of potentially illegal behavio(u)r when in fact it doesn't look like they're guilty of anything more than poor communication and possibly an overly tight refund policy. Not sure about the UK but I believe at least in the US the booking contract specifically mentions the possibility of itinerary changes. We've been on the receiving end of some pretty drastic re-routes, some we've cancelled, some we've accepted. It's the nature of the game. And while it's true that I'm a pretty vocal Regent supporter (some might say cheerleader), I, too, have criticized Regent in the past for lack of communication regarding changes and cancellations. But to be honest, I really don't think Regent is any better or worse than any other cruise line...and if you find a line that you DO feel is better than Regent, by all means sail with that line. Vote with your wallet. It really is that simple.
  16. I get it. It’s worth the stretch for some, not for others. For $9k, I’d book the G as well. Can do a lot of other fun stuff with that money…
  17. This discussion may help me understand why I was never much of a rum drinker - growing up in the rust belt it was pretty much Bacardi or nothing. Hence my gradual migration to the finer whiskey selections. I have been known to sip on the occasional Mount Gay (actually have a bottle in my liquor cabinet) but I've never taken the time to sample the finer rum selections out there. Of course, as I've aged I've had to cut back on my tippling (I hate my doctor sometimes) but I can make some exceptions when I'm onboard. Z - we still need to book a common cruise eventually - I've enjoyed following you on the forum, I'd love to share some rum with you guys at sea sometime...
  18. Mahogany, there's not much in the spreadsheets on these cabins - the closest I could find was a review for 634 on Explorer (sister ship so same basic layout) that liked the cabin but echoed my thoughts on the G cabins - if there's any way to stretch the extra $800 or so per cabin to move to an F2 it's money well spent. I know people say "Oh, we don't spend a lot of time in our cabin" and while that may be true, the extra space sure does make things more relaxing, IMO. Some folks disagree with me, and I've known people who sail in the Cat H cabins and love them, too, so it really is a matter of personal wants...but it's something to think about. Now having said that, there's nothing wrong with the G cabins, they're tastefully decorated, comfortable, and of course all have balconies - and they're still larger than the cabins on many other cruise lines. Maybe someone who has sailed in these cabins will see this and be prompted to submit some reviews for me to add - but if not, I look forward to seeing YOUR reviews when you get back from your cruise! 🙂 Enjoy!
  19. Got it, thanks! Jim, thanks and congratulations for having the first Grandeur reviews!!
  20. Yep, I know how that goes. But if you ever make it through this way again, first beer is on me.
  21. And you didn't tell me you were in town? I'd have bought you that beer...
  22. We use Regent Air almost exclusively and have had mostly good to great luck with it - but you need to do some research on your own. Our last several cruises have been out of Miami so it was easier for us to book airfare from SC on our own, but we switched over to our upcoming cruise to South America at a late date (moving from a Middle Eastern itinerary) and flights were limited. We usually fly out of CLT but looked at both CLT and ATL and there were no good routings available (there was one non-stop from ATL to SCL but Regent didn't have slots on that one) so we had them look at flights from MIA and found some good ones. So we'll drive to Miami the day before, fly out, and drive home a few weeks later. I guess my point is - if you're using Regent Air, do your research and find the flights you like and see if they're available. And be flexible, maybe think outside the box. Oh, and pay the deviation fee - we just consider that a part of our cruise fare.
  23. I don't know if you can call it a 'design and installation' problem if it's been functioning properly for 22 years now. Granted, it may take more than a new flapper valve or float, but I think if it was a design issue we'd have heard more about it in the first few decades of the ship's life...
  24. Unless Jiffy Lube completely reupholstered your seats, replaced all the carpet, recovered the door panels, installed a new headliner, upgraded the sound system, and maybe repainted half of your car...while still doing all your fluids and other checks, upgrading your emission controls, etc... If they did that, well, it would be pretty similar. 😁
