1. thanks for the update on soda package; I will stick to buys the cans. Fountain and bottle soda gets flat and the fountain can be watered down.

Are you cruising from Boston? We bring a rolling cooler filled with cans of soda and bottled water. We just slap a luggage tag on it and it gets delivered with the luggage. Not sure if they do that in NOLA. We carried on our soda on our NOLA cruise

  2. All the suites on the Dawn have a scale....

We are booked in a SJ this coming November with my daughter and her best friend, hoping we have enough room for our clothes. My bf and I were in a SD this past January, but since there is no more smoking on the balconies, we opted for the SJ this cruise....I hope we dont regret it!!

  3.
Great! Another confirmation! Our group consists of a 23, 22, 20, 17 & 14 year olds. What happened to my little babies?! :(
What about priority tender? Did you have any experience with that? Or the special seating in the theater?
The cruise with all the kids (not all ours, lol) was to Bermuda, we didn't have to tender there, but we were all allowed priorty disembarktion the first day in Bermuda. The concierge met the suite groups in the Star bar and escorted us down a service elevator. We all were there as a family and we werent questioned on who was in the suite and who wasn't. On our cruise this past January, we did tender in Belize (but it was just the two of us)....We were left priorty info in the suite. It was the same, we met in the Star Bar and escorted by the concierge and the butlers down to deck 4 and the tender.

When we were on our cruise in October, we were diverted to the Bahamas and had a day at Great Stirrup Cay. We tendered there. We werent in a suite, we were in a mini, but we had booked a couple of excursions so we were able to be on the first tender with the suite pax, due to an early excursion. That time we had to show our excursion tickets to get on the first tender.
  4.
So glad I saw this post. We are booked for the Dawn out of NOLA in December and it answered so many of the questions I had. Especially since we have a similar family make up with 5 college/high school aged kids. Originally I had booked an SJ & SD but for some reason the ones I booked did not have the murphy bed so I changed it to a DOS and a Mini Balcony. I asked about the VIP embarkation with another non-suite room booked and they said it should not be a problem. Glad to hear of your first hand experience with it. This will be our very first cruise and though DH is still apprehensive, your report has got me excited beyond belief! Thanks for taking the time to post!
We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite(SC?) on the DAWN in May with the adjoining mini suite, we were all able to board with VIP embarkation and there was no problem (that was in Boston, but should be ok in NOLA too). We had 3 20 year olds, one 18 year old and a 17 year old....GOOD LUCK!! LOL!!
  5. HAHA Last time I checked! But according to some, "washy washy" helps spread germs LOL..

    Miss you guys!

When is your next cruise? We are booked on the Dawn again, Nov 14, but may squeeze in Bermuda!! We have to get together sometime!! The DAWN, NOLA to the Western Caribbean was so much fun, but would have been better with you two!! We even met up with a group from Boston that are duck boat operators....

  6. We love Chips Ahoy!! We cruised the Dawn in May and he was our favorite bartender!! When we cruised in October he was on vacation, but not coming back!! I was told that he is on either the Breakaway or the Getaway...So sad!!

We cruised the Dawn again in January (can you tell we love the DAWN?) and he still isnt back, and wont be coming back anytime soon.

The shows are fun. The illusionist just left for a couple of months off, David DiVinchy, he will be back in May. The Cruise Director in January, Bobby, is new to the Dawn, he is also very good. Not sure if he will be there a while or if he is covering a vacation....

Pearly Kings is a great bar for Karaoke. There is also a great duo that play in the atrium, Jose and Patti, they werent on our last cruise, but they will be back in the spring.

You will have a great time!!

  7. Very glad to read this thread. We'll be on the Dawn for first time in July and so looking forward to it!

Sent from my iPad. Typos are inevitable.

Soccersharon, you will love it!! This was our 4th time sailing on the Dawn

  8. That's too funny - we did notice the things I bolded from your post (particularly the elevator buttons as one was at the banks closest to our room and my mother kept pushing that one even when it was wrong just because it stood out, lol) but it was nothing more than a passing comment, and certainly did not impede our enjoyment of the cruise in any way. Had I not read this post I probably wouldn't have even remembered them to be honest.

Just off the Dawn on Sunday. We had a great time. No issues with our suite.

  9. I was able to get my hands on copies from the week of Jan 4th. I am sure not much has changed, these are really good quality copies... in both MS Word format and in PDF format. I saved them on a public Google Drive, that anyone should be able to access.

Let me know if you cannot access it for some reason,

    Enjoy!

  10. It seems that iConcierge comes to older ships only after drydock as it requires heavy updates on both ship's computer system and network base stations (iConcierge uses a separate WiFi network from the one used to access the internet).

Only ships that didn't have iConcierge originally (all older ships than megaships starting from Epic) but have it now, are Jewel and Pearl that have both been in drydock quite recently.

    Thank you!!

  11. So if someone books a suite; in addition to the normal $12 per day for tips; a suite guest is also expected to tip the butler and concierge; the amount depends on how much you use them; and its based on the total days for a cruise. So a 7 night cruise would be at least $70 for butler and $50-$70 for concierge or vice versa. Is this somewhat correct? I know some people will leave more and some less; but for a baseline does this seem reasonable? Thanks

    Yes.

  12. Thanks for this. Would drinks with Grey Goose, Ketel One and Pyrat Rum put you over the $10 limit? Also, if bottled water is not included, can you bring your own? Finally, absolutely no coffee drinks are included (similar to Starbucks or Al Bacio from Celebrity) ?

Grey Goose was included, didnt order any of the others.....I always bring my own water and cans of soda. Never ordered coffee drinks, so I cant help you there....
