  1. I wonder if he will pay his lawyers this time if he sues for wrongful termination. He was fired from his last gig, too
  2. James was asked to leave. His public persona was blurred with his private beliefs and causing PR issues. It’s not that they did away with the role. They are actively trying to backfill it. Trying to find a qualified meteorologist who will move to Miami and not engage on social media is challenging.
  3. When my son was 3, he lacerated his cheek on a bathroom sink on the Serenade. His height hit perfect to the public wash sink and it was sharp. he needed liquid stitches. The doctor on board fixed him up and gave him a lolli for being so good about it. I was never asked to pay anything. We also received some nice treats on our room later that night. I suspect they were hoping I didn’t make a fuss about it! I hope your daughter is okay.
  4. Yes, the kids just swipe their card when they want to play a game. Their cards are linked to my account but I am not concerned about that. Our house is rule is they must ask permission before spending money. Their bank accounts are linked to my account and it’s super easy to transfer money from their account to mine if they make unauthorized charges. I don’t play! Typically I get a text asking to spend $X in the arcade. I generally approve if the amount isn’t excessive. One time, one of them went over by $2 and they immediately called me and explained what happened. Internally I was laughing because I gave them a healthy dose of anxiety for breaking my rule. Oh, and they get $25 back as a credit if they spend $50 in the arcade during the sailing. It’s typically not hard for them to do if the machines are working.
  5. My two liked to run off in different directions when they started testing their power at 3 years old. Decent spankings and making them sit a chair looking at a wall for punishment helped. I also made them wear awful animal backpacks with leashes on them in public. Lord help the child that runs and doesn’t stop when I tell them to.
  6. I have bought the credits in advance several times. I can tell you it’s a HUGE POA to redeem the credits. You have to go to the arcade and link the card to the credits then pray the credits work on the machines. Sometimes the cards link, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the credits take, sometimes they don’t. This happened to me on 3 different sailings (different ships) so it’s their system. It’s such a pain that I refuse to pre buy them. The money I would save is not worth the hassle.
  7. Every school district sets their own schedule on when breaks will occur each school year. We have 3 main school districts in my county. Each district takes Spring break at a different time each year. Private schools tend to have the most generous breaks than public schools in my area. Mid-March through end of April is considered the Spring Break season in the US. Summer break for my kids start before Memorial Day, but other districts don't begin summer break until middle of June. My kids go back to school the 2nd week of August and some don't return until after Labor Day.
  8. Insane that your son gambled and tried to fly in same day of an international cruise. I’m sure the trip insurance he purchased will refund him his expenses. It’s not the cruise line’s fault the flight was delayed. Ship happens.
  9. We left mid show. Too bright and loud. Story line didn’t make sense. I’m not a huge fan of the production shows in two70. Too busy and you can’t see everything at once. The Book was alight on Odyssey this spring, but wouldn’t see it again.
  10. Your mother will need her birth certificate and their marriage certificate if she changed her name when she married your father. The names must match exactly or have another official document to show the name change. Miss Jane Doe is not the same as Mrs Jane Smith. My in laws missed their cruise because they thought their birth certificates would be enough. Mother in law has changed her name twice and needed her original divorce decree with her name change (not back to maiden) and then her marriage certificate to her now husband (of 20+ years). Of course it wasn’t insured and they lost thousands.
  11. Alaska is hands down the best cruise I’ve taken so far. We went at the end of May and the weather was nice. I packed hats, parkas, rain boots, etc. None of it left my luggage. Purposely not going when you have the means and opportunity is a mistake. You can’t appreciate the beauty and magic of being there in pictures or video. It’s somewhat a spiritual encounter if you enjoy being in nature.
  12. I agree! I manage staff and a 3 means you did everything exactly how I asked you to do your job. Near perfect performance. A 4 means you frequently exceed my expectations and working above your grade. A 5 is you always exceed expectations and you are outperforming your peers in the role above you. 2 is you’re okay, but you need to improve to get you to perfect. A 1 means you suck and should be on a improvement plan. I review the exact same way. A 3 is great! I refuse to give anyone a 5 out 5 unless I paid for a Carnival vacation but I received the Haven experience.
  13. Is the child potty trained? If so, Adventure Ocean was a blast for my young kids. My kids pretty much grew up on those clubs and made a lot of great memories. If not potty trained still go! We took twins on an 11 night southern Caribbean sailing when they were 18 months old. Insane? Maybe. We made it work and it was an amazing time. I wasn’t too busy because I have tons of photos! Keeping it real- my husband and I took turns at night once it was bed time for the kids. The key is to always stay on schedule. He would take an hour or so, then I would take an hour or so. One of us stayed in the room while they slept. The other always brought back liquor and a snack when they returned. During the day we kept busy and let the kids be kids without interfering with others. We took tours, swam in the ocean, built sand castles, and made best of them sleeping in the strollers to take in some shopping. It’s your life just in another location. If you go in thinking the child rearing ends just because you’re on vacation then you will have a terrible time. Life goes by so fast and soon that 3 year old will be in high school. Make memories now. And those of you who gasp- I bet you a shinny penny, if you are an older loyal cruiser, chances are you have not only met my kids but dotted on them and told us how well behaved they were at some part of their life. We tend to stick to smaller ships with longer sailings. We’ve tried some mega ships in the past years but they’re too big, and busy, for us.
  14. I take between 1-3 cruises a year, and I’ve been paying for them on my own for the last 20 year (after marriage dad refused, boo!) In all my cruises I’ve taken, and it’s been a lot, I have never cared what dining time was selected for me when my cruise was booked. I’ve always changed something once on board. I used to dine early when it was near 6 when traveling with my pre-marriage family, then I moved to 7:30 late seating after marriage and pre-kids.When my kids were younger we moved back to early until early became late tea time! I really like MTD because we could pre-schedule 7 pm dining now that the kids are older. Recently, the 7 pm times are booked by the time I pay attention to the cruise planner. So, for the last 6 cruises I just walked into the dining room, gave them my card, ask if early is still late tea time, and if so politely ask them to schedule me a 7pm time at a table for 4 for the whole cruise minus whatever I pre-booked for specialty. I then hand him a tip and tell him thanks and see him later. Ok, sometimes I do a walk about and tell him what table number I want. That really depends who I know on board and where the table is. I don’t want a newbie and I don’t like to sit 6 inches from another table.
  15. Never to young for a passport. The twins were 2 months old when they got their first one issued. On their 3rd renewal already
  16. editing to say I saw your prior post. I didn’t read all the way down 🙂 I just purchased in insurance last week for my December sailing that I paid off months ago. The only issue is pre-existing medical conditions. The OP can buy travel insurance, but she may not be able to buy it cheaply to cover her husband’s stones. They will make you sign medical releases and they will do a broad search for diagnosis and a pharmacy search for any meds you filled for that diagnosis prior to full insurance payment. My husband broke his femur in 2016 exactly 24 hours after I paid for cruise insurance for our sailing the next month. They went through all of his business with a fine tooth comb looking for a way to not pay on the claim. We were successful.
  17. No playmakers on Adventure. Mariner got more of the amp than Adventure did. My husband thinks the Adventure casino is one of the best. Old style and flashy, just how he likes it! The casino opens up to Boleros aft and Schooner forward. If I remember correctly they have the Chops across from Schooner. Most awkward waiting area btw.
  18. I just called for a 2 day deviation for Rome today on my sailing. The fine print says they’ll get you there by midnight. So your one day can quickly turn into a 7 hour jump start- still exhausted.
  19. Does everyone who gamble on the BOGO flights call for a deviation or just let it ride? I called their office this morning to put in deviations for our European cruise on VIVA. I asked a lot of questions because this is our first go with NCL and read horrible reviews with their flights. But, scoring two one way flights to Rome, and then Istanbul to home for $1500 total is a steal, so I’ll gamble. The agent was so kind to answer all my questions about the bad reviews. She admitted that some clients aren’t very happy because they don’t read fine print. However she assured me they try their best to get decent flights, but they have airlines partnerships and it’s kinda based on if you are flying out of an international airport or how close you are to a main hub. Then, she mentioned that “smart” clients research their flight options and find out what a likely outcome is based on when NCL can fly you home. For example, NCL won’t book a flight home from Istanbul until 3pm or later. Prior to calling, I searched for one way tickets that left Istanbul late afternoon and when it would arrive in Columbus. The most expensive tickets got us home around midnight. The cheaper tickets required an overnight connection or more than 2 stops with at least one being 8 hour layover. No thanks. Chances are we would get the cheaper tickets and then awful flights. Requesting a deviation and leaving the next morning at the crack of dawn gets us home around dinner time with one or possible two connections. The very early flights are the cheapest. I booked a two day deviation for Rome. I want at least one full day for sight seeing, and the fun print just says they’ll get us there by midnight, so a one day won’t cut it and I refuse to take an overnight flight, stay up all day, and then boarded the ship exhausted. However, she mentioned that we would fly out a day earlier than our two day deviation to because outbound Europe flights typically leave in the afternoon or evening for an overnight flight. I was expecting that, so if that works out, I’ll have only one day of staying up all day and then a full day somewhat rested!
  20. I agree she is a rusk bucket. A bit disappointed our Christmas sailing was changed to Adventure this year. The diamond lounge is a joke. Last time I was in there the dang door didn't even work and the seating is so small, especially couples taking up the corner loungers meant for 4-6 people. One would argue the drink vouchers we receive can be used for real espresso in the morning. Not everyone drinks coffee, or uses the machine to make adding an additional voucher reasonable. Plus, Royal's IT won't be able to figure out how to limit one coupon to $5 for coffee and the others up to $14.
  21. I think that’s a bit of a reach. Don’t let it ruin your day!
  22. I’m the rebel D+ and took my sister in the lounge with me when she sailed with me. She doesn’t drink and I had the refreshment package. Never had an issue with the server. No one asked, and no one cared. We played cards and had some snacks since we like to eat dinner late.
  23. You’re pretty safe cruising during the 1st or 2nd week of January. Winter breaks generally begin the 3rd week for two weeks. Typically starts Wed and ends on a Sunday. I would avoid cruises that begin on the 3rd or 4th Friday and Sunday in January if you are looking to avoid this crowd.
  24. Mine is on “sale” for 77.99 and refresh for 27.99. I actually booked the refreshment this week at this price. This is the lowest I’ve seen it in a while for this sailing. Normally around $35.
