  1. It did not show up on our reservation, but when you check in, you will not be charged.
  2. SJDE, please report back after your trip. We are on the AmaWaterways trip next May.
  3. I know you said you wanted to go in July, but I would encourage you to go late May, early June. It will be really hot in July.
  4. It has been said a number of times, that the cruise director makes the difference between a good cruise and a great cruise. We were on a Scenic cruise of the Seine in June of this year. Our cruise director told us that they were instructed that we could read the daily programs on our TV. She said, "I think people like to have the piece of paper in their hand, and like to take it home, so I am printing the daily program. It will be in your cabin every evening". I saw her numerous times go out of her way to make sure that the passengers were safe and taken care of. She would go off the ship to give directions to a taxi driver to make sure that he understood where the passenger wanted to go.
  5. I enjoyed the river cruise on Seine. I thought the scenery on the Seine was beautiful, but I wish we had taken a private tour of the beaches while we were on our land tour of Brittany and Normandy prior to our cruise. I felt the cruise trip to the beaches was rushed. The tour guide rushed the group, especially those of us that do not move as fast as we used to.
  6. We were on the Scenic Gem on Seine in May. They did allow people to take the bikes out on their own when not on an excursion. Maybe some people that signed up for the excursions will decide not to go on them and that will open up some spots. Let the cruise director know what you would like to do and they will make every effort to make it happen.
  7. I can see the river from my house, and I can assure you there is no problem. The cruise ships are docking at the new pier in Kalama, WA. There is one there nearly every day.
  8. It's not that I did not enjoy it, it was just not my favorite. There were more interesting and new sites on the Danube and the Rhine.
  9. I have been on the Danube, Rhine, Rhone, and the Seine. The Rhone was my least favorite. The Danube was my favorite, but it was my first, so that may be swaying me a little.
  10. Another suggestion, take the train to Lucerne, stay a few days, then take the train to Basel. Lucerne is a beautiful place and the train station is a short walk to some hotels.
  11. If you mean handicap accessible, I would say it is not. You could certainly see it from the outside, but I there are a lot of stairs and it is very crowded.
  12. So happy to see you posting again. We have missed your smiling faces and positive reports. Enjoy!
  13. The best thing to do is call the ship the day before you are to sail. I had the same issue as we left home 10 days prior to sailing. I had to call the cruise director the day before we were to board and find out the location. I agree, you shouldn't have to do this, but pre-boarding service on Scenic is not what it should be. If you don't have the number, there is a sticky at the top that list all of the Scenic number. Once you board, service will be as it should be.
  14. The train station in Lucerne is so convenient, you can walk to your hotel. It is very easy to do on your own. When you get ot Basel, just take a cab to your boat.
  15. If can't believe they are charging you for those. Most river cruises would include those. We priced them for the Douro in 2023 and they were much higher than AmaWaterways and even Tauck.
  16. We received our documents by email about 3 weeks prior because I hounded the travel agent. We were going over early. The box with the backpacks, luggage tags and official documents came after we left. I did not know where the ship was docked until the day before we boarded because I called the ship and asked.
  17. Jazzbeau, we did not have any of those. I did not go to the Roman ruins, but those that did, said the guide was in full costume and was wonderful.
  18. Just returned from the Scenic Gem on the Seine. The onboard experience was wonderful. The staff was top-notch and the food was delicious. There were issues with some of the guides on the shore excursions. They are still trying to get back in to the swing of things since not working for two years. Overall, it was a very enjoyable trip.
