  1. Sounds like it was a Covid casualty. Wynn Las Vegas closes ‘Le Rêve’ for good - Las Vegas Sun Newspaper
  2. Now that you mention it, I think that's where I saw the story that I mentioned. When we were flying to a cruise, it was usually arriving one day early, since vacation days from work was still a concern. We did fly into San Juan a couple of days early so that we could enjoy OSJ before getting on the ship, and the same once with Disney in Orlando, but those were exceptions. Now that we live in Florida, we drive. It's about a 3 hour drive to Port Canaveral so we drive to the port the morning of the cruise, leaving plenty of time in case of unknown traffic problems. I still feel slightly nervous until we get off I-95 and head east to the port. If cruising from Fort Lauderdale or Miami, it's a 6+/- hour drive with much greater risk of traffic problems in south Florida, so we'd drive down the night before.
  3. We never quite got bored on our TP from Vancouver to Hawaii last fall, but we weren't exactly excited either. The sea days did start to run together. We enjoyed the evening activities much more than the day time stuff. It didn't help that Micheline had lingering back issues for the early part of the cruise. We were happy when the cruise was over and we could enjoy Hawaii. If you have plenty of time (i.e. retired) and you enjoy spending a lot of time reading or otherwise just relaxing, then a TA/TP is a great way to get to a destination with very little impact on your body from time changes. It was nice being in Hawaii with zero jet lag. We however like to be more active and do new things. In the future, we'll probably just fly and spend more time where we're going.
  4. The views from the SL are indeed spectacular, but it's a looong walk to get there. I also much prefer the CK view on Quantum to the O class view from CK. Q class CK also seems much larger so a better chance of eating there if you're in a JS. But I think I still prefer the O class setup where both the lounge and CK are in one place.
  5. I remember reading a story here of this happening a few years ago. Some poor family didn't have the correct paperwork to board and was scrambling to get it in time. They got the paperwork before the ship left, but not before the 90 minute cutoff, and were left stranded. My understanding is that it's not a cruise line rule that everyone must be on board a little early, but rather a Customs and Border Protection rule (I think) to ensure that the passenger manifest is accurate.
  6. We enjoyed Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Beautiful area with a lot of ground level and tree level walking areas. It does require a fair amount of walking and climbing stairs, in case that's a problem. There's a free shuttle bus that stops at 3 or 4 places around downtown. Takes about a half day.
  7. I guess it's the nature of that cruise, but it seems strange that there are more D+ than D, and almost more D+ than gold, platinum and emerald combined. The recent double points probably has something to do with it also.
  8. Yes...she's taking some sort of online education that's part of a first time buyer program. She's also putting more than 20% down, which I think also helps (or at least avoids PMI).
  9. Idalia shouldn't hit us too badly. The current forecasted path is a little west of us also. It should be a tropical storm near us and we should just get some wind and rain (although I guess any hurricane is "just" some wind and rain). Lake City and the west coast of Florida north of Tampa seem to be where most damage may be done. Having said that, it can still shift in any direction and could go right over the top of us. At least coming across the state from west to east, the storm surge shouldn't be bad. Edit: People around here are concerned about this year's hurricane season in general. The water temps in the Gulf, and even the ocean, are higher than normal after such a hot summer, which equates to energy for storms.
  10. I think Harry would love the show. Cheapo Dad however might not, since tickets for the cheap seats are often around $150. 😧
  11. I agree that O was the best Cirque show that I've seen. The water stage and associated acrobatics was incredible. I loved Ka...seen it twice...because of the huge rotating stage. An unbelievable engineering and choreography feat. But I liked the overall O performance better. Launching people from the swings into the water was spectacular.
  12. Our daughter is buying a house right now. The best that she could get was 30 years at 7.125%. That's a new buyer rate. At least the mortgage company covers some of the closing costs. She's hoping that rates will drop in a couple of years and she can re-mortgage. I remember that we started at around 6% (30 years) in 1992 and switch to around 2% (15 year) after 4 or 5 years. Our monthly cost dropped a bit and it was so nice being mortgage free after 15 years.
  13. There's a company by me that rents similar boats as part of a group excursion. Their description of them as go carts on the water is pretty accurate. Lots of fun!
  14. We did this same trip last fall. Very nice views (sit on the left side). Pics start here with post #208. Sooooo much better than driving. We needed the ArriveCan form back then (you needed to show it at Border Control after you got off the train) but sounds like that's no longer the case.
  15. I'm so glad that you posted this. We're also big Cirque fans, and also haven't been to one in a while. Our first show was La Nouba in Orlando which we've seen twice. We were hooked. The trampoline act with the building facades was amazing. We've also seen O, Mystere, KA (twice)...all in Vegas...plus Allegria in Columbus. Since we live close to Jacksonville, I'll need to check out Corteo.
  16. 🙋‍♂️ Stunning footage. That's saying something given your past Greece trips. They look like...mmmm...like lighthouses. 😉 Was chicken very popular, or was it the least "risky"? I know you guys are somewhat adventurous eaters.
  17. Unsolicited recommendation for something related to cruising...sunglasses. I bought my first pair of Maui Jim sunglasses in Ka'anapali while on our honeymoon in 1993. I've used nothing but Maui Jims since then. I recently broke the temple (side piece) of the pair that I use while golfing. Too much moving them from my eyes to my hat and back holding just the right temple eventually caused them to break. I filled out the repair form online, paid $15, and took them to the UPS store. Eight days later they appeared in my mailbox almost like new. They had the same lenses that had a few minor scratches but everything else was perfect. They even tightened everything up. This is the second time that I've used this service and have been extremely satisfied. Maui Jims are pretty expensive but the lenses do a fantastic job of eliminating glare and they're stylish, in addition to having great customer service. I've got 3 pairs, including one that has built in readers for reading/using my phone on the beach or by the pool. 👍👍
