  1. $900 for a balcony cabin for two is nothing to scoff at.

My cabinmate and I are Hot and always only get comped ocean view cabins no matter what ship, and we each play at least three hours on port days and six hours on sea days. You’re Jade and get a comped balcony. Doesn’t make sense.

Sorry it doesn't make sense to you, but it is what it is!

  2. Why?

You pay a 20% gratuity already on NCL's inflated prices.

I haven't seen any preferential service when I've been at the bars on board, the bar staff are usually very good at knowing who is next and no amount of furtive cash exchanges seem to alter that, added to the fact that I'm on holiday and really don't mind waiting too much.

I really don't see what else a bartender can do that could be called exceptional service. I order a drink, they fix that drink, I drink the drink. Unless they are going to hang off the front of ship collecting special dolphin hormones by hand for use in some exotic cocktail.

I don't tip when I go to the pub, nobody does. Yet once on a cruise everybody seems to want to tip twice.

If you think the servers don't know who tips... and then serve accordingly, you are oblivious.

  3. Cash. I bring a stack of 1’s...they go a long way IMO when at the pool too.

    This!

Give the server a buck (or $2 if they are REALLY GREAT) each drink, or every other you get, and they will remember your name, your drink, and will go out of their way to find you, and give you great service. Follow these guidelines, and you won't ever go too long without a drink ;)

  4. May I ask what type of money you play on average per cruise? This is interesting to learn about.

You won't get many responses to this. Gamblers are usually very tight lipped about the gambling budgets. I am, what I would consider, a moderate gambler. I gamble enough to never have to pay for a meal, drink or room in A.C. Also gamble enough with NCL to usually have 1 or 2 cruises a year comp'd. Do I always win? No. Do I sometimes win? Absolutely. I've had big wins on NCL cruises, including a nice $3800 win last cruise. Went home with all my gambling money (the money I brought strictly to gamble with) plus $3800 more. Doesn't always happen like that tho. I consider it entertainment, not a way to make money. I gamble what I can afford to lose. That's a different number for everyone.

  5. Your offer will depend on your theoreticals, not your player card level. Your card level dictates the types of perks you will get on the ship. You need to have consistent play (1-2 hours a day) at any level to qual for a comp. You could be a Ruby level and not offered a comp if you did not have sufficient play on your prior cruise.

I agree. I am still the basic card level (Jade, maybe?) and I recently called CAS about a May cruise on the Escape from NYC to Bermuda, and I got a comp'ed cruise for a balcony room, for my wife and I. However, after taxes, port fees, blah blah blah, it was still around $900 for a "free" cruise.

  6. Any wine drinkers in your bunch? Restaurant menus have very limited selection - not what I'd drink or serve at home. Finally we started going to Cellars and getting a double pour of something fabulous and taking that to dinner! Cost a few bucks for the difference of cost over $15 but soooo worth it to have a great wine with an equally great meal. Enjoy! We loved sailing her.

Yes! We drink wine, so this is very helpful, thank you!!

  7. Agree a great call by NCL for the people that may not make the cruise because airports are closed and an original early embarkation. Those already in NY can enjoy a nice dinner and quiet night on the ship, and it gives the others some peace of mind knowing they don't have to rush out in the cold to make the cruise.

    Cheers

    Len

Exactly how I see it. Have a great cruise, Len. Safe travels to the pier!

  8. -The Grotto in Spice H20 is freezing. Enter at your own risk. :-)

-Bring close toed shoes for the ropes course and do it while in port. Fewer kids and little/no wait. Don't have any loose items on you. They won't hold anything while you do the course.

    Thanks!
