  1. Have you considered an inside? 😄 One piece of advice is to upgrade your cruise line and not your cabin. My cruise next month is not currently available, so I looked at the one after mine. For a 10-day cruise, it's $1,034 for an inside cabin, $1,654 for a balcony, and $4,734 for a suite. The price per day for a suite with Princess Plus ends up at $523. A Viking cruise for many of the same ports is $447 per day. Sure, the cabin will be a bit smaller (270 square feet) than a suite on Princess. But you'll also have one shore excursion included in each port.
  2. I looked back at my notes from our last transatlantic. Even with 904 Elites on the cruise--nearly one-third of passengers--only the top two most-traveled couples had more than a thousand days. The third place couple had 999 days.
  3. The app gives me 8 as the latest to reserve a table for my cruise next month on the Caribbean Princess. On my Regal Princess cruise in February, the main dining rooms were open until 9.
  4. I carry a refillable water bottle with me. You can also order 12 half-liter bottles of water to be delivered to your cabin for $7.08. It's one of the options under the beverage packages tab of the onboard services tab on the Cruise Personalizer.
  5. It's sad that Princess internet has gotten so bad that people start describing 2.1-3.7 Mbps download speeds as great. That's not quite good enough for streaming videos without buffering problems or degraded video quality. On the Regal in February, I had good internet speeds. Here's one of the tests I did from the ship in Roatan, Honduras.
  6. I had Princess Plus for the first time in February. I'm going back to the basic fare for my cruise next month. I will just drink fewer alcoholic beverages. If I could have used some OBC to help pay for the Plus package, it might have been more tempting. I have enough to cover my tips and two to four drinks a day, depending on what I order. One of the glitches with booking drop and go fares is that Princess Plus can be more than the usual price. For my next cruise, it would have been $56.25 per day. It's gone up even more since then and would be $75 per day for people booking now and Premier is $100 per day. I'll consider Plus for my next 7- to 10-day cruise if I can get it at $50 a day.
  7. I enjoyed my cruise on the CB in December. My little inside cabin did not have any problems with the AC or plumbing. It was my first cruise on the CB since the restart. I'm booked to go again next month to Greenland. I won't have to worry about the AC on that itinerary. I'm more worried about having to wait for a tender in some of the ports after reading about how long the lines were three years ago on this itinerary. But I'm going to try to pack patience and some good books to read while waiting.
  8. I always start looking at prices on the Princess website. I look at the prices for double occupancy and single occupancy to see how much of a single supplement Princess is charging. On my cruise next month, it was 10%. Once I find a cruise that I want to book, I start looking at travel agencies that may be able to get me a better price or offer onboard credit.
  9. I remember having delicious Dungeness crab at the Bamboo Room in Haines on our first Alaskan cruise. I enjoyed eating at Olivia's in Skagway on another cruise but did not order the crab legs. The chowder was delicious. They sprinkled it with garam masala, which I've done since when making creamy seafood chowders.
  10. I hope the rest of your cruise improves. It sounds like they fixed the AC. If your cabin steward can't get you a plug for the bathtub, you could try using a washcloth as a makeshift stopper. I'm booked for the Caribbean next month. It's a cruise to Greenland, so I won't have to worry about AC. Sad to say, but I'm already counting on the internet not being great. If it's significantly bad, I'll ask for a refund. I had a fun time on the Caribbean in December.
  11. Thanks. I remember seeing them on the TV menu but did not pay attention to prices on my last cruise since I had the Princess Plus package on it. And my previous cruises since the restart were both week-long ones, and the items in my minibar were enough. My next cruise, though, is 16 days, and I'll be wanting to have a few more drinks than the minibar would yield.
  12. On my 2019 b2b cruises, the internet manager tried to explain that I should only receive 250 free internet minutes. Since I booked the cruises as separate bookings, I told him I should get 150 minutes each segment. After all, I was getting the shareholder credit for the two separate bookings and not for a 14-day cruise. I won that battle after a conversation with passenger services. The old coffee cards expired in August 2019. I took the cards that had punches left and tried to use them up but was not successful. I ended up mailing them to a woman who was going on a cruise before they expired. We were also on one of the first cruises in 2018 after they stopped allowing passengers to use a punch to get gelato. We found a sympathetic employee who still honored them.
  13. I have OBC to spend and thought about ordering a 350/375 ml bottle of liquor through room service to enjoy on my cruise. Are the selections and prices the same on board as the preorder ones? The preorder ones include the service charge. I'm seeing Courvoisier for $33.04, Jim Beam for $17.70, Crown Royal for $23.60, Jack Daniel's for $28.32, Cutty Sark for $17.70, Johnnie Walker Red Label for $25.96, Skyy vodka for $17.70, Absolut vodka for $21.24, Bacardi rum for $17.70, Cruzan coconut rum for $17.70, Gordon's gin for $17.70, and Bombay Sapphire gin for $23.60.
  14. Before the cruise, I partially prepaid $74.95 for an excursion on my credit card before I had received my shareholder credit. The amount I paid showed up a refundable OBC. Other refundable OBC on the first leg was $20.10 from a change in the port fees and taxes. At the end of the first segment, I had $24.26 in my favor. On the second leg, the $24.26 had transferred over plus it looked like the nonrefundable OBC from the second leg had gone against the charges on the first leg and that my refundable OBC ended up at $90.09. I was expecting that as a refund. It's hard to understand without seeing the printouts from the ship, which I discarded after finally getting a resolution in the form of a goodwill credit.
  15. I had a problem with my OBC on my last b2b cruise. On the ship, it showed up as if the nonrefundable OBC I was receiving on the second leg would be used to cover my expenses on the first leg, leaving me with around $90 in refundable OBC. But the Princess rep I spoke with several months later said each cruise was treated separately in terms of nonrefundable credit. She said since the amount of nonrefundable OBC on my account at the end of each cruise segment was less than $25, I should have asked for it on the ship because they did not mail out checks for less.
  16. One of my favorite things to do in Fort Lauderdale is walking to the 17th Street Bridge the morning of a cruise to catch the first sight of my ship. I stayed at the Embassy Suites last time and could see my ship from my balcony. I still walked to the top of the bridge.
  17. I did on one of my b2b cruises. I called room service the last day of the first leg. They gave me a choice of several from their menu up to a certain price level. I'm sorry I don't remember what that was.
  18. My brother and his wife are Diamond Plus on Royal Caribbean. Our Elite benefits are still better than what they receive, other than the drink vouchers being better than our minibar, especially for longer cruises, since they get five vouchers for free drinks per day and not just one setup for an entire cruise. They don't get any internet discount or laundry benefits.
  19. We always cross pack items in case a bag gets lost on the way to the ship.
  20. You can order tea for one for the two of you to split. Or let them know you'd like just scones with jam and cream to go with your tea. I went to the free wine tasting on my last three cruises. The upgraded bathroom amenities have been hit and miss since the restart. I enjoyed getting 10% off shore excursions on my last couple of cruises. I am not booking any on my upcoming cruise. It's 16 days long. I'll definitely be sending out laundry several times.
  21. The conditioner is one of the upgraded amenities. The lotion is standard for all cabins.
  22. I'm going to Greenland on the CB next month. I heard the horror stories from three years ago and still booked it. This will be my eighth cruise on the CB. I was on it in December and had a great time on a 7-day itinerary. I hardly ever eat in the buffet. I will go to the production shows again even after having just seen them eight months ago. When I'm on the Royal and newer ships, I really miss having an outside Promenade Deck to walk on. There's not much I miss from those ships when sailing on the smaller ships.
  23. I look at prices before signing in and after. Sometimes the price is better after signing in.
  24. Please don't feel inferior. Character counts more than the number of cruises you've taken or the number of countries you've been to. Just go with an open mind about meeting new people. Strike up conversations. Move on when you wish. Avoid the pretentious people.
  25. I have been sailing solo on a lot of cruises. On my b2b Alaskan cruises, I brought on 2 bottles and showed them my boarding pass for the second cruise to prove I was staying on so they would not charge me the corkage on the second bottle. That was back before the app, though.
