  1. We went to Haines on our first Alaskan cruise, taking the fast ferry over from Skagway. It was a great day. I booked an independent kayaking excursion at Chilkoot Lake. We had our own guide and our own kayaks instead of having to paddle tandem. We went farther and saw more than the people in a Royal Caribbean excursion there at the same time. They had a lot of them in triple kayaks. After kayaking, we had a great lunch at the Bamboo Room. Back then, Haines was a lot less touristy than Skagway. We still had time to wander through the downtown area of Skagway after taking the ferry back.
  2. Princess still has separate cabins to quarantine passengers who test positive. The crew members are taking extra precautions when dealing with the passengers in the quarantine cabins.
  3. Is it any wonder that Covid is spreading on ships when many people don't follow the protocols of getting tested when they have symptoms? Anyone who has those symptoms needs to be evaluated by the staff of the medical center. Self-quarantining is not enough.
  4. Did you pay attention to the cost to upgrade to a balcony when you booked your cruise? If so, is the difference more or less now? I received an upsell offer to move from an inside to a balcony for $199 per person. Unfortunately, I was sailing solo and it would have been double for me. The $398 was more than I wanted to pay. But it was still a good price compared to what it would have been when I booked the cruise.
  5. We did not get a cookbook on our tour, but we already have plenty of them from the Chef's Table. Our swag included an apron, stationery, picture frame and photos, and the robe. We did it on a cruise where we had a lot of onboard credit and drove to the port.
  6. The buffet also had flourless chocolate cake on one of my recent cruises on the first night. I had a piece up there as well, and it was better than in the dining room. I was tempted to save a piece for later but did not. There's always a mini cheesecake.
  7. On my December cruise, an employee was taking down names and cabin numbers of people wanting upgrades/upsells. He was doing it in front of the desk, allowing the pursers behind the desk to help others. He said that people chosen for upsells would be notified by the next day and told of what it would cost. I decided not to add my name to the list.
  8. I got a free upgrade from a Cat. BF to a Cat. DB on my last cruise. I was very happy.
  9. I got my fourth post-restart cruise booked for August. The first three were great overall. There were little glitches but nothing major. I still looked at HAL before making my last booking. Princess had a better value.
  10. A lot of my favorites are on the first day: the vegetarian ravioli and the salmon in the dining room at lunch and the flourless chocolate cake at dinner. The key lime pie verrine is great when it's made correctly. On the Majestic, though, it was horrible. The individual cheesecakes at the International Cafe are wonderful. I love Alfredo's, especially the vegetarian antipasto, the veal agnolotti, and the various pizzas.
  11. I checked my local CVS, and it has stopped doing the rapid RNA. It's still doing the drive-through PCR tests. I keep hoping that Princess will change the requirement to be tested before my cruise in August. My cruise leaves on a Monday, so I will try to schedule the PCR test for the Friday before if the requirements don't change.
  12. I applied for my credit via email on June 10. The credit showed up today--12 days later.
  13. They should be holding a table for you. But it's easy to change reservations in the app. I made reservations for a set time and would change it depending on what was scheduled each evening.
  14. You must not have been paying attention to previous threads. Nothing ends a discussion. In the case you cite, it seems as if you asked for a deviation that would have allowed you to board the ship in Hawaii instead of California.
  15. Paying just the difference in price is still listed under the terms and conditions: "Items selected that exceed the $12.00 USD or $16.00 AUD price are charged according to the difference in price."
  16. Be sure to look into taking a tour of Buckingham Palace. It's open only a few weeks each summer, from the end of July through early September. I highly recommend adding on the garden tour as well. https://www.rct.uk/visit/buckingham-palace
  17. You won't have enough time. We stayed three nights in London before our British Isles cruise and did not have nearly enough time. When we went back before a transatlantic cruise the following year, we spent four nights in London and still did not have enough time. And then the following year, we went back and spent just two nights there. But I loved every trip. The pandemic messed up my plans to go every year, and now my mother-in-law's age has messed it up for this year. DH will not leave the country.
  18. And here's the menu from February for comparison:
  19. One of the things people agree to in the passage contract is to waive the ability to join a class action lawsuit. Each lawsuit, or arbitration, has to be undertaken individually.
  20. I've taken three cruises since the restart--August, December, and February. In August, I wanted the turndown service the first evening because I had laundry to send out. There was a communication problem between me and the steward, and he thought I meant every night. I did not dissuade him. In December, I requested it on the keypad by the door a couple of nights when I had laundry to send out. That steward did not mistake my request for wanting it daily afterward. In February, my steward serviced my cabin every night without my ever asking. I think it's because my cabin was right beside some suites, and he automatically serviced them twice a day as well. On my next cruise, I don't plan to ask for the evening service every night. But I may have laundry to go out and request it on those nights. I used to save all of our pillow chocolates and take them to work for one of our secretary's candy bowls.
  21. The choice, though, for Princess roundtrip cruises from Seattle is either Glacier Bay on the Crown or Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier on the Discovery. Only the southbound cruises from Whittier to Vancouver go to Hubbard Glacier. They also go to Glacier Bay. To me, it's not worth flying to Anchorage if I don't have time to stay at least three nights--and some people can't take off that long from work.
  22. I'd still like to go back to Glacier Bay this summer. Last summer we had a week without sun on my Majestic cruise. It's still beautiful. According to Wikipedia, Margerie Glacier is stable--neither advancing nor retreating. Hubbard Glacier is still advancing. Lamplugh Glacier is retreating 50-100 feet per year according to the National Park Service. The place I noticed the most difference was Tracy Arm. It's retreated more than a mile. Does any Princess ship still go there? I see Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier listed for the Discovery's cruises this summer.
  23. I have a cruise booked for August. I do not see a way to add the Plus package to my booking. As I mentioned before, it was going to be more than $50 per day when I booked the cruise. On some of the cruises I looked at for February, adding plus was over $100 a day.
  24. They had it one night at the Platinum, Elite, and suite event.
  25. And even if some of the previously listed wines go up in price, Princess will have to add some that will fit the Plus criteria. I don't see Princess selling a drinks package and then telling passengers that there is no choice at all of wines that fit the package. On my Regal cruise in February, there were 19 wines listed that came in at $12 or less on the dining room menu and only one that was $13. On the Vines menu, 19 wines were $12 or less and 6 were between $13 and $17.
