  1. The scary thing is that there are people that need to be told this.
  2. It usually reflects how difficult/expensive we make it for citizens of the other country. Many years ago I visited Jordan, and the visa for Canadians was 3 times the cost to Americans. And I remember a similar difference for a Turkish visa; I decided to spend a 12 hour layover in the lounge rather than spend a lot of money for a few hours in Istanbul.
  3. My experience with losing a Canadian Passport in London was also not too bad, although I lost the passport on a Friday and I was flying home on the Sunday. It very much helps to have the details of your passport when you report it stolen.
  4. Flåm is the only deep water fjord. The first half of the trip is a Baltic cruise; the second half is (mostly) Norway.
  5. To be honest, it isn’t really the lack of information from the Canadian government; rather the lack of clear information from the Egyptian Embassy in Ottawa.
  6. I'm not sure what caused the recent spate of news reports on multiple stations and newspapers, since I don't think anything changed.
  7. If you go into the first post, and hit the 3 dots at the top right, you can report the post and ask the mods to correct the name.
  8. I don’t think this is the whole schedule, only the new voyages. I think there will be more Mediterranean cruises to come.
  9. The brochure does say new voyages; and if you look at the time lines on pages 16-17 there seems to be quite a bit of time unaccounted for on some of the ships. For example, Silver Nova has about half a year in Alaska, but nothing else on that schedule.
  10. I think it is because I have nothing planned between now and then, so I spend a little more time obsessing.
  11. The problem is that they are NOT good to go. From travel.gc.ca: If you travel to Egypt on an electronic visa on or after October 1, 2023, your visa will be considered void, and you will be denied boarding and/or entry into Egypt.
  12. On my Norwegian cruise next June, I noticed that Silversea has changed one of our ports from Trømso to Alta. When I check on My Silversea, I only see "spa" and "restaurant" information for that date, with no "ashore" button. In your experience, how soon are we likely to see excursions posted. (I think that Alta may be a completely new port for Silversea, but I'm not sure.)
  13. Sorry, you are not correct. As of October 1, Canadian passport holders can no longer enter Egypt on an eVisa. There is no mention of Egyptian nationals. It seems that the government of Egypt has relented on the Sept 3 date, and visa on arrival will still be available until Sept 30. However, from October 1, the visa must be obtained from an Egyptian embassy or consulate before departure.
  14. I think so. I also wanted a longer cruise, and the one I am on is 14 nights, with both fjords and travel north of the Arctic Circle to enjoy the midnight sun.
  15. The information on the Canadian site was updated today. https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/egypt#entryexit The date is now October 1, 2023. EVisas will no longer be accepted from that date.
  16. I notice this is a different date (October 1, 2023) than the date in the previous CBC report (Sept 3, 2023). It does state that it was updated today, August 31, 2023. It is also very clear that an eVisa will not be valid.
  17. Bookbabe’s first trip is June 2024 and the second is March 2025. I’d be astounded if she had applied yet. Particularly, since this is a retaliatory move by the government of Egypt against Canada and Canadians, it may change before departure.
  18. That one works fine. Thanks. I'm glad I booked for 2024. They aren't going to either Flåm or Geiranger in 2025.
  19. All I get is the cover page. They both come into Acrobat as a single page.
  20. Sorry, I don't know what ports were on this cruise. My cruise is a Norwegian Fjords cruise that also goes up to North Cape, so there are more northern ports included. I had hoped that this cruise did something similar, but I guess not.
  21. I was on My Silversea tonight, and found that they have replaced our port stop in Trømso with a stop in Alta. Currently they are showing NO shore excursions. Should I assume that excursions will be added? Did any of this year's cruises stop (or will stop) in Alta? What were (are) the excursions? I know that it is a frequent stop on Northern Lights sailings, but I haven't seen much about it during midnight sun. Any help would be appreciated.
  22. On a trip to Italy a number of years ago I found a calendar called Cats of Italy. It had cats sitting on many of the famous sites of Italy. I very much enjoyed having it up on my wall at my office.
  23. Sorry, I can see the map on my desktop but not on my phone. I will try to repost now that I have saved the image to my desktop.
  24. Here is a map of Flåm. The train cars are on the left of the map, and the station to their right. If you dock the ship shows where you will be. If you tender, I believe that you are even closer to the railway station. I think that I have seen better maps in this forum, which you could try searching for.
