  1. I believe that EU rules require a stop every 2 hours.
  2. The link I posted earlier (post 21) is to the Brazilian embassy in Ottawa. At the time I posted it, it stated that they were not yet accepting applications, but that info would be available there. It seems the most up-to-date.
  3. We had it on an Aegean Odyssey cruise from Istanbul to Venice in 2015.
  4. I did the same thing with Ama in 2017. The tour leader that led us at the airport looked after the Cambodian visa for all of us. I believe we paid US$30 in cash for the visa. Bear in mind this was quite a few years ago and things may have changed. What is Ama telling you?
  5. If you download maps in advance, you don’t need data to use them.
  6. Take a look at this topic, which covers the LEAP card.
  7. Here is a link to the embassy discussing that applications are not yet open. https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/embaixada-ottawa/english/VISAS for Canadian citizens
  8. I would have preferred one to Metz with a change to get to Luxembourg, but when we were rebooking after our cancelled September 2022 cruise, the only fall trip that we could get was the one to Merzig. (We went to Metz for our first night post-cruise.) Some, but not all, of the Cochem to Metz itineraries include the Maare-Mosel trail, which was a highlight for me.

    E-Tickets???

It just means everything is electronic. You don’t have a paper ticket. Anything you need to do only requires the locator code (6 character alpha-numeric) and your name. The only time I have ever needed anything else is if you have 2 legs on different carriers, where sometimes (but not always) each has its own locator code. In that case the ticket number (14 digit numeric) will let you sign in. Only when you actually check in for your flight (generally 24 hours in advance) will you get the QR code.
  10. Wow. At 350 days that works out to less than 46 cents credit per cruising day towards the $160 cost of La Dame.
  11. Actually, 2 letter words are extremely important in Scrabble tournament play. Unlike those of us who play for fun, tournament players try to maximize points by getting credit for multiple words in one play.
  12. and more tiles to play at a time; 8 letters don't go very far.
  13. They have been talking about ETIAS for years now. It has been delayed again and again. It shouldn’t be a big deal. For most people it will be a simple online procedure that will cost a few euros.
  14. I read about Burg Eltz in Rick Steves' guide book. Our original plan was for May 2020 with a bike and barge from Koblenz to Metz which had included Burg Eltz. Then that trip was cancelled, we rebooked as Cochem to Metz for Sept 2021, which was also cancelled. Ultimately, we ended up on Cochem to Merzig in October 2022. We arrived in Cochem a few days early, and, on the day of departure, I planned our excursion to Burg Eltz by train and bus, returning in time to join the others on the barge. Other than the fact that it was pouring rain, the setting was amazing, and the castle too. My sister is a hiker, and I'm sure would have liked to hike in the area, but we didn't really have time. She did walk down the path back to the car park, whereas I took the shuttle bus. I think that we got the best of both worlds, a chance to visit Burg Eltz, and to ride the Maare-Mosel bike route, which was not included in our original Koblenz to Metz itinerary, but was on the Cochem itineraries. (I was trying to figure out how we could do it at the end of that tour, but eventually gave up; it just would have been too difficult to do.)
  15. Just a bit of nitpicking. The joint city is Kitchener-Waterloo, not Waterloo-Kitchener. Did you get out to any of the farmer’s markets in the vicinity?
  16. Ot perhaps faster by train, but you need to get to the train station.
  17. And sometimes you swap onto another ship of the same company. You pack up all your stuff, and while you are on an excursion your luggage is moved to the other ship, and you will be bused to the new ship and continue sailing from there. And sometimes, if water levels are low over a fairly long stretch, the ship is uses as a floating (but moored) hotel and you keep coming back to the same place with longer and longer bus rides. This is the least pleasant possibility. I don't know whether Emerald has enough ships in the right locations for a ship swap.
  18. You have posted in the wrong forum. This forum is for technical help on using the forums. You need to post in either (or both) the Princess forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/119-princess-cruises/ for help as to how long it might take to disembark or the Italy port forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/464-italy-ports/ for information on taking the train.
  19. And on the Canadian Cruisers forum I discovered another new initiative coming to European travel soon. It is called Entry/Exit System (EES) and will occur when leaving Europe. https://travel-europe.europa.eu/key-differences-between-etias-and-ees-2023-06-06_en also with no official start date.
  20. All they hired out in 2019 was a flat cushion.
  21. I did it back in 2015. I enjoyed it, and thought that it was worthwhile. It definitely takes you off the normal path.
  22. Not something I would have brought with me from Canada as I was in Copenhagen and Edinburgh before arriving in London, but interesting.
