  1. I think that it depends where in the world you are travelling. If the country does not have a tipping culture, because everyone is paid a fair wage, I would only tip for exceptional service. However, if the country has a tipping culture, then, unless told that tips to guides were included (i.e. paid by the cruise line), I would tip.
  2. Which was what I said too. However, it seems that the question was not really about converters, it was whether plug ADAPTERS would be required on Emerald, which was answered by @MrDogDad, that yes plug adapters would be required. I would add that the 110v outlet with North American plugs in the bathroom is only to be used for an electric shaver.
  3. If I remember correctly, sometimes your email provider decides that an email is junk and bounces it back. When CC gets a bounceback it removes that email address. Help should be able to check if that is the case and reinstate the email address, but it may happen again. What about just getting notifications on CC without an email?
  4. If you are asking about whether you need a voltage converter, the answer is almost certainly no. Any modern phone charger will be dual voltage. Somewhere on the charger itself (frequently just in raised print but sometimes a sticker) it should say something like "input: 100-240v". If it does, all you might need is a plug adapter. Some lines have US plugs on board, others do not. I don't know about Emerald. Hopefully someone will chime in.
  5. I had no issues at all mailing my passport in. The only suggestion I have if you do so is to make absolutely sure that you have filled in everything and that you send in all of the requirements. If you don’t, it will slow down the process.
  6. The drop down menu doesn’t give any more information than is available by searching for the cruise line.
  7. Yes, but if they were stopped it could be much worse than the medication being confiscated; they could be charged with drug possession or even drug trafficking.
  8. Is self laundry available on all ships? Neither of my Uniworld ships had it, but the trips were in 2010 and 2011 and things may have changed. I don't disagree that the best use is extra excursions, but it might make a difference.
  9. I don't know if that information is correct, but from power-plugs-sockets.com Electricity in Vietnam In Vietnam the power plug sockets are of type A, C and D. The standard voltage is 110 / 220 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. which means that it might be possible to find 220V type A (North American) outlets.
  10. I don’t think laundry is included so you could use it for that.
  11. Virtually anything you want to plug in today is dual voltage so you probably don’t need anything on board. Both Cambodia and Vietnam have a variety of plugs (and voltages) so you probably need converters for some of the hotels.
  12. I expect the schedule any time soon, since we are already less than 3 months out from the end of the current schedule. I know from reading these forums that people have been able to book tickets (I think for the summer) as early as December/January. It is not just the schedule for the Flåm railway; currently all of the Norwegian train schedules end by December 9.
  13. Sorry, I don’t know where the stop is.
  14. The Flåm railway up and back is about 2h 15m. I am hoping to do a Næroyfjord cruise first thing in the morning, and, if the schedule for next summer is the same as this summer, catch probably the 13:20 train which returns at 15:26 (trains 1860 and 1861). The next train is the 14:35 which returns at 16:50 (1862 and 1863). These trains are from the schedule for June, July and August this year; I am watching to see when the schedule for 2024 comes out. You don’t need an excursion to do the railway; you can book it yourself.
  15. When I did that route with Ama, I got my own multi-entry visa for Vietnam, since I flew into Hanoi, and then we reentered on the river. When we flew to Siem Reap as a group, our leader looked after getting all of us our Cambodian visas. We needed a picture and (if I remember correctly) US$30 in cash. (I think Canadians are still able to get multi-entry visa for Vietnam; I think I have read that Americans can’t get them.)
  16. I don't think that you have an hour at the top. Looking at the schedule from this summer, you would go up for example on train 1858 departing Flåm at 12:00 arriving Myrdal at 13:01, and the return is train 1859 departing Myrdal at 13:13 and arriving in Flåm at 14:11. Ship's excursions that stop for a waffle don't go all the way to the top; the time for their break is when the train continues up to Myrdal and back to their location. The current schedule can be found here, currently it only goes to Dec 9 2023. https://www.vy.no/en/traffic-and-routes/times?item=2893 The train you want is R45, and it is 4th from the bottom of the list of trains.
  17. One of my excursions on my Norway cruise next June has been moved from included to extra cost. However, I assume because I had selected it before, I’m not seeing a charge for it in My Silversea. I hope that is true.
  18. And I prefer to add trip cancellation/interruption insurance only at final payment (or when I have a reasonable amount at risk). I don't cover the deposit, because I can easily afford to eat a reasonable amount (up to about $500 Canadian). If I made final payment way out, I would have to purchase travel insurance at that point which I am not prepared to do.
  19. Can I politely request that you not use Comic Sans font. On my iphone it is almost unreadable. Please stick to the default font so that everyone can read your posts. Thank you.
  20. Dress was very casual. People generally changed for dinner because they were sweaty. For dinner, I usually put on what I planned to wear the next day. Don’t worry about Cambodian currency; almost no one uses it. Pricing in any restaurant I went into was in US$. I think that was also true of anything I looked at to buy. Sorry, I remember nothing about electrical outlets. I tried the FAQs; they say all ships are 220v 2-pin, but I suggest seeing what info comes up when you look at My Cruise.
  21. I got US$100 in new $1 bills and over 4 million Vietnamese Dong, worth at the time less than US$200. I did all of my tips in US$ in Cambodia. In Vietnam, I generally tipped 2000 dong which was pretty well equivalent to US$1. I came home with about $70 or so and a few dong. Generally, there is a different guide for each excursion, and I usually tipped $1 or 2000 dong each time. Sometimes there were 2 or even 3 in a day; I think I tipped more for Angkor Wat as the tours were longer. We rode an ox cart one day, and a tuk tuk on another; I tipped each of them, as well as the guide we had where we were going.
  22. I have generally used CAA insurance. They have a non-medical plan that includes a few ancillary benefits as well as C&I. They asked a few more questions when I was over 65, but not much.
  23. Not necessarily true if the cruise line actually thinks that you don't need a visa. If you really did, what happens on arrival in Egypt? Is the ship cleared but you can't get off, or is the entire ship denied clearance?
