  1. So, nothing is automatically assigned? If I get to choose the time when I purchase on line, that should take care of my time concerns.

NO, once you choose the first night on a 3 night package and request a specialty restaurant, that should be approved for the time. Speak with a Maitre' de as soon as you board ship; they are usually outside the specialty restaurants. We wanted (party of 6) Murano and only got it for the last night at 8:30 PM , which was much later than our 7 PM request. Murano tends to book up fast.

Good luck. We really enjoyed the Lawn Club Grille the most.

  2. Please report back on your thoughts of Embassy Suites. I have a reservation there, and have attempted one with Hyatt Place convention center although haven't heard back from the website for travel.com - when I called the Hyatt they are full for the night we will be there in October.

You mentioned flying in late. If you won't be able to enjoy the Happy hour; 5 to 7 PM, I'd skip Embassy. Hopefully Hyatt Place will open and contact you. They are just around the corner from ES and usually less expensive. Port shuttle was $ and worth it.

  3. We willbe visiting Nassau on our upcoming Mariner of the Seas cruise for the first time. We will be there for whole day until 12 am. We would like to go to Atlantis for slides, beach, pool and aquarium

RC provide tour for 5 hours and atlantis has day pass for the whole day. Will we be kick out if we book with RC? Is better to book directly via Atlantis? Is safe to take taxi to Atlantis, we have one year with us.

Should we go pick a spot at the beach first then go to slide in the morning due to lines and go to aquarium later. Please advice.

If you are traveling with a 1 year old, you will not be able to enjoy much other than the beach and if allowed, the pool. The baby won't know what the Dig is all about. You can't take the child on the slide as it's too steep and both of you will go under the water. Taxi's make their money on us tourists. I've never had an issue, just need to be a little patient while they try to fill up a van. I usually threaten getting out if they don't leave within 10 minutes. Walking around inside on your own with the little one in a stroller might work. There is also "private" beach excursions by 3rd party vendors (which we may take on our next visit). Just not sure of Bahamian water temperatures in February. I've been in September and later in the Fall.

  4. I did check the car rentals - going from Central Florida (Lakeland) and dropping the car in Miami is pretty reasonable, but to rent from Miami and drop off in Lakeland was crazy expensive. It would cost just a tad bit more to pay the $21 day to park at the port and would be much more convenient.

I'll check on those hotels & if all else fails, we may just drive most of the way down & stay somewhere off Interstate 95 as we start to get closer to Miami. That will lessen my anxiety about missing the ship.

Shirley, I have a Cruise Critic link for decent savings of the Hampton Inn & Suites, Brickell Ave which included parking for your night of stay and 1/2 price discounted parking while you are away. There is a one-way shuttle included, so you need to factor about $20 for a return taxi trip. Of course a nice breakfast is included as well as a Happy hour drink. Lovely hotel. nanatravel at sc coast dot net.

  5. Hi there. We are the people who booked and got the handicapped accessible room. I would never have thought those were in the mix for our guaranteed category. Never mentioned and why would anyone think that was a possibility.

Handicapped cabins are great cabins. There usually is no vanity at the sink. There would be more room in the cabin. I'v had one once and now Celebrity has changed it's Category from Balcony to Suite it was so large.

Good luck. When you buy a guarantee, that's what it means. Just you will get a cabin in your category. Handicap Cabins can be in many categories.

  6. Usually 90 days or less....

Thanks for verifying this fact. We too are sailing February 2019 and unable to book entertainment or specialty dining, etc. Oasis class ship is new to us, so am finding this unusual.

Royal Caribbean computer system is "down" tomorrow, Sunday the 3rd for maintenance. Maybe they will start to get things fixed.

  7. I don't know if there are outlets on both sides of the bed, but Royal has had an outlet on one side of the bed since Oasis in 2009.

If you notify special_needs@rccl.com about the CPAP, they will furnish an extension cord and distilled water.

Thanks Bob. I've had the same inquiry due to CPAP as well. I'v filled out the special needs form recently. Do they usually respond to let you know they have received the request?

  8. Found OP's roll call on June 24, 2018. Lots of people but not very welcoming to the newbies (IMO), so I created an informal roll call for them (might help?). Looks like they also have a blog on that "other site", so maybe that's where most of them are posting. Hope I did not over-step,:o just trying to help out the newbies to CC!! Quite a long list actually but I'm retired and DH says I've got nothing to do anyway!;p

Nice job Sal. We were all new once.

TOLG, check out the recent review of the Oasis with a young family on this same forum. It was very informative.

  9. Me too! Every time I try to register for the Meet and Mingle it tells me that "Only purchased reservations may register for the Meet and Mingle". I guess it's because we are not paid in full yet? We have until October to pay the remaining balance.

Me too and I'm a seasoned cruiser just not lately with RCCL. I guess they hired the tech crew from Celebrity! What a terrible ordeal they have had for years now. Hope this gets fixed soon.

  10. I have only stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Brickell which includes a nice breakfast and 2 drink tickets (adult beverages). I've always enjoyed this facility. You can take the children on the Free people mover( less than a block from hotel) to Bayside Marketplace for dining, amusement or just a place to go by the water. There are plenty of choices for dining near the hotel, once the children are done swimming in their pool. There is a shuttle for a fee but for 5, a taxi might work out better about $20 one-way.

  11. Can you please tell me what was so special about the muesli?

When I enjoyed it in Blu, you literally made your own. How much raisins, banana's, nuts, cream or none, etc. was up to you. Whereas, Muesli in the Ocean View is like soup with milk already in it. I like to add fruit flavored yogurt to mine thus I need it dry.

  12. Hi again OskarNZ

I have heard that Disney is very expensive. Looks pretty luxurious from photos I've seen. I certainly can't see us ever trying Disney unless we had a sudden windfall and took the family for a cruise. We could spend our time in those adult only areas you mention.:D I do like seeing children on a cruise though. Any children we have seen on our last couple of cruises seemed quite happy.

As far as another cruise line, I doubt it. It might be fun to see one of those huge Royal Caribbean ships for a short cruise and I think that Celebrity is under the Royal Caribbean umbrella. Our next cruise is two years out and that might be it. We have enjoyed road trips in the past and might get back to that. There are some beautiful places in Canada and the U.S. that we have never seen.

    Maris

Wonderful review and your pictures are the best. So glad I can say I know you! Say hello to Ken for us too.

My next Celebrity cruise booked is January 2020 when the Silhouette comes from Edge-u-cation (renovation). By then she will be our 39th cruise. Majority with Celebrity but we have sailed Princess, Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norweign. I have just booked Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, one of their floating cities out of Port Canaveral. I've wanted to try this class of ship as an experience. It will be my destination, hotel, entertainment and restaurant center. Since we are Elite on Celebrity we are Diamond on RCCL as they reciprocate. Of course the benefits aren't the same but we shall see what's offered. At least they have a Diamond Lounge for nighttime refreshments, as we probably won't buy a drink package. Until then.

  13. I'd ask the desk where's the 'mom and pop Cuban place' that they go to .... there's always one within a short walk in Miami and costs less than Whole Wallet!

There was the Latin American Cafe at the Bay Side Marketplace; opens early and serves fresh made breakfast. Just a short walk out the front door of the Intercontinental Hotel.

  14. Thanks so much for reviewing the Oasis of the Seas. We have never sailed this class of ship and you and others who have made comments have helped tremendously with questions I haven't even thought of yet!

Once question I don't recall seeing answered or asked yet: How far in advance of your cruise where you able to book shows, beverage or dining packages, other like excursions or spa treatments? TIA

  15. Yes, leaving one's fur baby while traveling is a difficult situation. We are fortunate to have an adult son who lives with us, so when this has been an issue, our dog was in good hands. We are currently forstering a potential English Bulldog we are considering adopting. She is a retired show dog and owned by her breeder. To us she is beautiful, friendly and playful at only 4 years old. Just haven't made the final decision as yet.

  16. All are about a mile to the port and all offer the park and cruise option. The first three also have free breakfast...the Radisson does not but there is an on-site restaurant, a family restaurant next door and a McDonalds across the street.

    Have a wonderful cruise!!!

Diane, do you know if we book the Park n Stay rate at the Radison, if they will allow additional passengers on the port shuttle, for an extra fee of course? There will be 4 of us.

  17. Maris you were not a chicken to stay out of that surf. You were smart. People forget the power of those waves. We just lost a 4 year old NH boy on the Carolina shores who was just walking with his mother. The wave won. So sad for this family who lost their only child on vacation. I'm an ocean lover having been raised on the New England shores, but know when to stay out of the water.

    Great Maho shots, too.
