  1. Anyone receive an upsell offer on an Alaskan cruise? Just curious.

Yes, we were booked in an obstructed OV cabin as were our DD and SIL in a cabin next door. We got an upsell offer for a balcony for $200 pp for a 7 day cruise on the Ruby last summer. We were able to get two cabins on Caribe deck - our cruises were linked. When I talked to the Princess agent I asked about our kids and was able to choose their cabin next door to ours - DH had gifted them their cruise.

We just returned from a Regal voyage where we got an upsell $129 pp for a 7 day cruise from a balcony to our first mini. Loved it!

  2. Thanks everyone for your input - and the wonderful photos. We will be on the starboard side in M243 with the slightly larger balcony. DH will love watching the people on the SkyWalk. And, we're now prepared for the blue "nightlight" and any noises. We're really looking forward to our first mini! :D Our mini is an upsell - love upsells!

  3. DH is a seventh generation Texan - with a Spanish surname. We were on a 14 night Hawaiian cruise and were seated at a large table for 10. The first night we were the first at the table. A group of 6 came in and sat down. I asked where they were from - Cuba! Only one of the group spoke English. I assume because of our last name we were seated with the Cubans. The third night we were alone at the big table. It eventually filled up for the rest of the cruise. Not a bad experience, we thought it was funny :)

  4. How did you get your boarding group assignment? Did you do online checkin 24 hours out or did Princess check you in through the Port Valet program? We're sailing this week, and I'm trying to figure it out. It sounds good, but I don't want to end up in group C.

We were on Southwest, checked ourselves in via Internet and printed our boarding passes on board. Though we checked in at the 24 hour mark we were in group B, but didn't get to sit together. We were able to get aisle seats in tandem - so not bad :)

  5. We were on the Ruby in mid June. There were no porters outside the terminal as there had been in the past. We had to drag our bags way inside the terminal to drop them off. :( Maybe they've changed back to having porters outside???

We arrived at the terminal about 10:30 and waited quite a while to get on the ship. There was not enough room for everyone to have a seat while waiting...

Loved the free valet service at the end of the cruise! :)

  6. We used the service last week on the Ruby. Thank you Seattle!. The times posted are for flights from 11 AM (I think) to 1 AM, so your 10:50 PM flight qualifies. We got our forms on day 2 of the cruise! We had not put our flight info on our cruise personalizer but did have a required print out of our flight plans to turn in with our paperwork.

  7. I called to ask if it was available for my sailing. It was, but then I had to wait to book it because I was more than 90 days out

Thanks. I'll just wait to see if our friends want to do it again this year.

  8. If you call Princess make sure you ask for the BVE team. The representative you speak with might not know what you are talking about. Keep at it and you will get to the people who can tell you what you need to know.

Thanks. We did one last year when we saw it on the 2016 schedule here on CC. I want to know if anyone has seen the 2017 schedule. The poster who posted it said she got it from Onesource which I gather is for TA's only. Any TA's reading this? Can you find the 2017 schedule and post it? Thank you. Princess would probably sell more if they posted it here...

  9. I've sailed four times to Hawaii, twice in an obstructed view cabin. It's fine! I wouldn't pay for the balcony price either!

Same for us 4 cruises to Hawaii - 4 OV with slight obstruction. The first few days at sea and the last few days coming back are too cool to really enjoy a balcony. Bring light jackets and some long pants.

Be sure to look at Renmar's posts to choose an OV room - some sold as obstructed have very little obstructions. DH and I are booked on Ruby in E702, kids next door in E632.

  10. Thank you so very much for compiling all your photos. I do hope that CC will make it a Sticky.

In the meantime I've bookmarked the info and have referred to it several times.

Using your photos, I chose cabins with minimal obstructions for our next cruise. Our PVP tried to "upgrade" us to a fully obstructed cabin in what she said was a better location. I told her "no upgrades" unless it was to a balcony.

  11. I found the link to the 2016 BVE schedule. Maybe always_cruisin will be able to find the 2017 schedule and post it in January.

2016 Bon Voyage Experience????? You can do the search for it at the top of the page.

  12. Has anyone seen a BVE schedule for 2017? Did the BVE in August with friends in Seattle prior to our Ruby cruise to Alaska. We're booked again for 2017 and would like to invite our friends again. We all enjoyed it. Thanks.
