  1. My inlaws were denied as they ran into the issue that the ticket they purchased was a senior fare on SW. Their EZ Check was denied because SW requires that they show an ID verifying there age eligible before check in. Not possible to rectify onboard.

The cruise line has all that info - passports, etc.. Not a good excuse. The airline had that info too, or they wouldn't have sold them the senior tickets.

  2. DH and I were booked in a slightly obstructed ocean view on deck 8 on our AK cruise next week. Got an upsell offer to a deluxe balcony on deck 10 about 5 weeks before sail date - we grabbed it! I don't want to mention exact numbers, but we saved over $700 pp. This was our second upsell. I'm spoiled now!

While waiting the call back from Princess I checked what might be offered - all balconies were listed as Guarantee, so was more than pleased with the deluxe balcony.

  3. DH and I are booked on the Ruby - in two weeks! I loved the recent thread - sorry I couldn't copy the URL but it's on page 3... Or you could do the search at the top of the page.

    It's titled "Ruby Princess Review-ish 7/3/-7/10 (Alaska)"

Great review and wonderful photos of the ship and Alaska.

  4. Where do you enter your KTN on RCL site? Thanks

We're booked on Princess this time. We'll be flying on AA. I went to their site and added our numbers to our reservations.

I wouldn't wait for an email from them - it's easy to check online yourself to see if your KTN has been assigned.

  5. The small boat tour from the ship gets much closer to the glacier! It's a spectacular trip. You can book it thru Princess - look for "Tracy Arm" excursion. It's well worth the expense. It was one of our favorite excursions ever! My Avatar is a photo of Icy Falls which I took on the small boat tour. We saw several whales on our way to Juneau, the ship paused for awhile for us to watch them.

  6. My DH got his KTN number yesterday - didn't take 10 weeks after all! Even tho they told me to call back in late July I kept checking online. I have added it to his booking :):)

  7. My husband and I have an appointment on the 1st to finish the process (fingerprinting and payment of fees) for the TSA PreCheck (KTN). Not sure if I want to go with the Global entry. While we will be coming into the US from Vancouver on our return from our Alaska cruise, not sure if we need to have this for any other reason. We have no other trips planned right now that takes us outside of the US. I'll bring it up to my husband and see what he thinks.

FYI - I could not find any information on the timing on the TSA Pre-Check FAQ Site. Can someone let me know does it take 4/6/8 + or how many weeks after submitting everything to get the KTN?

    Thanks.

I had my precheck number in 2 days! DH still doesn't have his! We applied together on May 4th I think that was the day before they were showing those long lines in Chicago. We waited the four weeks to call to ask why he didn't have his. They told him they would expedite it. I called again today, spoke with a different agent and was told to call back in late July.

His is taking longer because his prints were not clear and they have to do a complete background check. I was told that takes 10 weeks. We had our prints done at a place that was not at an airport.

Hope he gets it before our early Aug cruise tonAlaska.

  8. If the wedding is on the day of embarkation you might consider the BVE (Bon Voyage Experience) where you can get on the ship, take a tour and have lunch in the main dining room and then stay on the ship until 1 hour before sail away. The cost is $39 per person and must be booked the same as the cruise -at least 7 days in advance. The BVE folks and the wedding parties are the first ones on the ship - approx 10:30 AM. We have arranged to meet friends who live near Seattle for the BVE prior to our Alaska cruise in August. You didn't say when your cruise is - do you still have time to cancel without penalty?

  9. If you are diamond or above on RCI or elite on X you get the benefits. Yes, you need to tell them. Years ago when I booked my first X cruise I think they asked me if I was Diamond on Royal.

Our credits were combined way before elite on Celebrity. We were upgraded on both lines. We are elite on X, but not a true Diamond on RCI but get Diamond benefits on RCI, thankfully :)

We're working very hard to be Elite on Princess! We'd love to combine our HAL, Carnival and Costa cruises.

  10. Several years ago we decorated our door for Halloween but, alas, someone stole our spider.

Someone stole or borrowed my Halloween sign on our last cruise. I told our room steward and the other steward down the hall. We were on Deck 14 - they found it on Deck 8 - and returned it to me. I'd read about folks having their signs taken so I wrote our room number on the back :D

Princess also put a Happy Birthday poster on our door and put up two balloons. I took the poster down after awhile, but left the balloons up for the 2 week cruise so we could tell how far it was to our room.

  11. I remember being in the Island Princess (sister of the Love Boat) in 1990 during Princess 25th Anniversary year. They had a gorgeous afternoon dessert buffet and ice sculptures on deck one day to celebrate.

We had a tiny cabin, basically two beds attached to the wall at right angles, one folded up against the wall so the second could be used as a sofa during the day and there was very little room to move around, even with one bed up! There was one dining room where we ate all meals at specific times and at our assigned table. They did do the flaming baked Alaska parade on the last night.

They had entertainment at various bars/showrooms around the ship, comedians, musicians and magicians. The ship had about 650 pax which seemed huge after our first cruise on a ship with 250 pax - they've getting bigger and better.

  12. "Can one of you that has an Alaska cruise booked for this summer take a look at the excursions and see if they are requiring pre-payment for Alaska excursions like they said that they were going to? Someone in another topic indicated that the test is only on the grand."

We're booked on the Ruby to Alaska in August. Have reserved an excursion, did not have to prepay.

I loved your review too. Have been on both Princess and Royal Caribbean, they are very similar, as is Celebrity.
