I incorrectly stated the 5th, correct date is the 6th.  I think our odds are 50/50 at best.

We're joining you on this Hawaiian cruise (hopefully).  This was posted on www.gohawaii.com/special-alerts-information website.   It might be an option for travelers flying to Hawaii starting August 1, 2020.  It doesn't mention cruise passengers.

    Pre-Travel Testing Program for Out-of-State Travelers – August 1

    • Governor David Ige held a press conference on June 24 and announced an option for the mandatory quarantine for travelers that will begin on August 1. Details will be forthcoming: “We are working on an alternative to the 14-day mandatory quarantine that would allow a safe and healthy way for travelers to return to the islands. Today I am announcing that beginning August 1, we will implement a pretravel testing program for travelers to Hawaii as an alternative to the 14-day mandatory quarantine. Beginning August 1, travelers who have a valid negative COVID-19 test prior to arriving will not be subject to the 14-day mandatory quarantine. The quarantine will remain in place for those who choose to not get a pretravel test. The health of our community continues to be our primary focus and priority. This multi-layered screening process allows travelers to return and allows us to continue to protect the health and safety of our community.”

  2. If your cruise is complimentary through the Casino department, yes, payment is required as soon as you book your flight.   We ran into this when trying to book flights for our 2021 casino cruise and decided to wait a bit before booking flights.

With so many Princess loyalists talking about never sailing with them again, some of us poor schlubs with less than a million nights might finally qualify for the most traveled passenger brunch.

LOL...you comment gives me hope that I might be able to qualify for most traveled passenger some day.  Love your humor.

I booked my flights the other day through Princess EZ-Air and did have to pay for them upfront. Went forward with the air booking because I don't think I could beat $300/pp R/T PVD to LAX with one stop in CLT and the flight times were perfect coming and going.

    I don't blame you.  That's a great price! 🙂

  5.

If it were me, I'd do nothing with the January cruise for now, and hope that if it's cancelled, Princess notifies you before final payment.  In the meantime, I'd would look to book something out a little further.  A March cruise might be nice.   Just my opinion.  🙂

We were booked on the 56 day Exotic cruise (Southampton to Australia) for this coming October.  With the Covid-19 situation, we felt our cruise would be cancelled so we booked a Hawaii cruise as a back-up for later in the year.   We don't know if this one will be cancelled, but it sure is nice to know we have one on the books.  Something to look forward to.

That sounds normal to me; sometimes for casino department comped bookings, they won't allow final booking of the flight until final payment is received from the casino department either, so you might have to call in to have them override it.

I'll give them a call.  Hope it won't be another 4 hour wait on hold.  LOL

  7. Has anyone booked flights for their casino offer cruise yet?   I'm able to book EZ-Air through the Princess website, but payment is required now.  For past cruises (not a free offer), I booked flights as soon as I booked the cruise.  Payment for flights weren't required until final payment.   That gave me opportunity to recheck fares and make changes if fares came down.

Our cabin is A734 on the Royal Princess. I know about the soot having sailed in the past in an aft balcony on the NCL Breakaway, but will trade the soot for the aft views. 🙂 With regards to getting the suite, let's just say I already paid for it on my last cruise on the Sky Princess if you know what I mean. :classic_ohmy:

I do know what you mean.  LOL  I usually make up what my hubby loses....so far.  Enjoy your suite!

I too got the offer and was pleasantly surprised I was offered a suite. 🙂  In addition to the suite got $1000 free play, Princess Plus with drinks, wi-fi & gratuities. Booked an S3 aft penthouse suite on the Royal for the 3/13/21 CA Coastal R/T LA sailing. Our cost for this was $200/pp plus the $100/pp deposit which we get back in OBC. We made Elite on our Sky cruise this past February so it will be nice to have the Elite perks in addition to what the Casino offered with this booking. I waited a few days before booking this cruise and had no trouble getting through to book.

Congrats on the suite....that's quite a deal!  You'll love the large wrap-a-round balcony.  We sailed in R730 in January.  Experienced a soot problem a few days, but would book this location again.

  10. Today we booked the Enchanted for February 2021- doing the eastern Caribbean the first week and western Caribbean the second week.  I was surprised we could use the offer more than once.  Ocean views were booked so we upgraded to a balcony for $245 pp, $140 taxes and port fees pp, and $100 pp deposit per cruise.  We're very happy cruisers!  🌞

As with all internet based reviews of anything, be cautious. You have no idea why someone says what they do.

Now, having said that look for actual information. For instance, when was the ship built and/or when was it last refurbished. (In the case of the Star, it was refurbed in Dec 2017.) And what were the changes.

Seriously, when I was checking out the Royal Princess I found this review and pic on CruiseCritic.com:

LOL....thanks for the photo, Cool_Dude.  You made my day. 😄

  12. Thanks for your posts, everyone.  Your positive responses have eased my doubts booking the Star.  We chose an aft suite - D737.  I'm a sucker for aft views.  😊 We've sailed on Royal Class ships the past several years, so it will be nice change to sail on one of the grand ladies.

suites have always been just above my price point so i haven't looked into them, but what makes a suite undesirable?

Some aft balconies on Royal class ships (Royal and Regal Princess) have soot issues from the stack.  We accepted an upsell on our January 4th cruise from a mid-ship mini to an aft Penthouse suite.   We knew about the soot problem before hand, so it was a non-issue for us.  We just brushed the soot off the table and chairs and enjoyed the balcony.

  14. We booked a 15 day Hawaiian cruise this fall for our 50th wedding anniversary on the Star Princess.  Recent passenger reviews indicate the Star to be a worn. tired ship that needs refurbishing (leaking ceiling in some areas, uncomfortable mattresses, musty smell in the cabin, etc).  We're in an aft suite and will probably spend a lot of time in the suite enjoying the extra room, amenities, and large balcony.  If you've sailed on the Star, please chime in and share your opinion on whether we should consider a different ship or not.   Thanks!

We were on the Jan 11 Royal Mexican Riviera in an aft Penthouse suite.  Soot was AWFUL.  Completely unusable balcony the entire cruise.  Interestingly, the day we embarked a ship's officer came to check the condition of the balcony...his response at looking outside...'Not too bad today'.  Well the was the beginning.  Add to the fact our room steward was the least attentive steward we have ever had, the balcony was worthless to us.  We always try to book an aft penthouse or owner's suite but I will not be booking one on the Royal again.  And if Princess can't seem to correct the issue we probably will try sailing only on the grand class ships (while they are still around) or book mid ship penthouse suites even though we prefer a more spacious room.

Sorry you experienced the heavy soot issue during your cruise.  We were fortunate and experienced minimal soot in R731 the week before you.  Was your balcony partially covered or totally open?

Just curious, since we haven't been on Princess in a while, do they still use the health questionnaires?

No health questionnaires on our last two cruises.  I wonder how many passengers have fibbed on the form in the past?  I bet there were a few.
