  1. SS could make this so simple collared shirt and slacks every night for men.
  2. They do usually wear red you are right. Our tips were $540 on O but with all the excursion issues we had we received back $410 in credits. So at least O took responsibility with their excursion issues. For the 15 night cruise our on board cost was only tips for $130.
  3. Yes just finished our first Oceania cruise 15 nights Montrèal to Miami. Overall very good with high quality food and food choices. We really like the healthier vast O food offerings that Viking does not offer. New ship the Vista that came out in May 2023. Overall if we had to choose between O or Viking we would still go with Viking. If there was a great itinerary with O we would not hesitate. O and Viking are so close in our opinion. Viking seems better organized especially with the excursions. We prefer Vikings decor over O. We like the smaller Viking 930 something passengers to the Vista 1,200 passengers. We love the heated bathroom floor on Viking. We loved the included laundry service on O. We are so looking forward to our upcoming Viking “Into the midnight sun” cruise and the Viking Antarctica cruise.
  4. Let’s hope. Viking and Oceania can do it. SS should be able to also. My guess we will not have to wait much longer.
  5. So much more comfortable for people on vacation and can pack lighter
  6. SS needs to ditch the jacket requirement for sure.
  7. I still am struggling with the $320 La Dame charge and the $160 Kaiseki charge. can’t believe especially with the Nova that it cannot be included at least once per cruise and that there is not a no alcohol discount since we don’t drink. Not sure why they had to double the charge on the Nova either.
  8. Even when all the towels are returned you still get a $50 charge for non returned towels on the last day. So much fun to get in line with hundreds of others all trying to get the fake charges removed. still remember when my wife was a little cold sitting out by the pool. I went and tried to check out another towel and the attendant said we had already reached our maximum. After some pleading he reluctantly gave me another towel.
  9. We also were just on the same Oceania Vista. Our first with Oceania. I agree with almost everything in the review comparing Oceania to Viking. Right now we are still thinking Viking overall has a better product with Oceania a close second.
  10. To us the closest competitor to Viking Ocean is Oceania. So right now Oceania would be our second choice.
  11. Really enjoying reading and seeing your trip.
  12. Thanks for posting the menus and dining pictures.
  13. We are equally impressed with both so we are highly confident Viking will more than meet your expectations
  14. this is the kind of ridiculous reviews we were reading that had us thinking we made a mistake trying O. All of these type of reviews were completely unfounded and completely ridiculous in our opinion. In comparing food on O we found everything to be excellent and way above the main stream cruise lines in quality, taste and offerings. We would say O does have the best cuisine at sea.
  15. We have left many lines over the years. When what is included is removed, extra charges are added and quality goes down we leave and search for greener pastures. We left Carnival, Princess, NCL, HAL, Royal, Celebrity because they have done all of the above. We have not looked back at all. We love Viking river and ocean and so far are very impressed with our first Oceania cruise. We were having some serious doubts on trying O after reading numerous reviews here. We are happy to report that all the negative reviews were unfounded in our opinion. We are not leaving Viking but always wanted to try Oceania. We consider both to be very comparable on what they offer. For the future we would now consider both in looking for a destination to go to. We are not concerned on the price. What we look for first is the food and dining experience followed by what’s included and destination. We are venturing out to try SS as trying a luxury line has been on our bucket list. We also wanted an extensive Japan cruise that was at least 2 weeks long.
  16. Good news. Oceania made things right. O removed an included lunch from an excursion and they said the price remains the same. That did not seem fair to us. The excursions desk had me write out on a form what the issue was and what I was requesting. I was asking $25 each for the removed lunch and O came back with $35 each. So very impressed they came through and made it right.
  17. Formal optional should be collard shirt and slacks no tie, no jacket. Otherwise remove the word optional as a tie and jacket is formal.
  18. Formal optional should not be having to wear a jacket.
  19. Those menus look really bad. They look boring and very uninspired. Celebrity has really gone down hill from their early years. Wow what a difference. Look at the appetizers pretty much soup or salad. When comparing our June Solstice cruise to our current Oceania cruise Celebrity is just sad. What a difference.
  20. Thanks Doc who loves to travel and Insanityx4 for the info
  21. Have they finished the final repairs to the Polaris yet. Tried googling it and not much came up. Were booked Jan 2025.
  22. We really spent a long time evaluating Regent vs SS for Japan. We picked SS. The cruise was 14 nights vs 11 nights for Regent. Also was amazed at the Silver Nova. We really want to go on her. Also liked that with SS you could get a bath tub. We wish SS included business class in their door to door rate. I think adding business class was an extra $13,000 or so. The SS website said you could add business class for a discounted rate which does not sound too discounted to us. We have enough Hawaiian miles to go business on JAL so not that big of a deal.
  23. Viking was charging for gym classes. Overall compared to Celebrity, Royal, Princess, Hal, NCL, etc there really is no comparison.
  24. going to give it a try. We usually don’t cancel cruises but with the cost of the Antarctica cruise the insurance is not in expensive would love to pay the bulk of the insurance at the end of May when final payment is due. Thanks for the tip.
