  1. @StanleyandGus Sorry to continue a bit, but I was wracking my brain trying to remember the testing laboratory that I used without purchasing anything in advance. It was Western Analytics. All online, no kits or mailers needed. : https://www.asbestostesting.com/index.html Taking the sample, Ziplock bag, fill out the form, pay online. This is a good article, too: https://thecraftsmanblog.com/popcorn-ceilings-what-you-need-to-know/ And anything to take my mind off packing. 😄
  2. Using girl math, I already paid the daily gratuities and the dining package gratuities a long time ago. So, I don't really pay much attention to what I tip onboard. 😛
  3. We are members of Captain's Club, too. 😊 Never sailed with them. I called up Crown & Anchor to get membership cards a while back. Instead, they sent us fancy plastic Celebrity Captain's Club cards with our names on them. Still Elite. 😊 Sailing on Celebrity in 2026.
  4. It doesn't say anything about 300 points. We will be Elite when we board. You can't move to Elite Plus without points, because you are starting at the Elite tier with 0 points.
  5. I think sometimes the sparklies come from vermiculite. (which has asbestos) But I'm not a builder or knowledgeable. I do see that Amazon now sells a wide variety of inexpensive asbestos test kits. You just send the sample off to the lab and they email the results. (check for extra lab fees) They don't look horrible. They are just dated. I think smooth ceilings look much better.
  6. Look at your own chart that you posted. Diamond=Elite. 😄
  7. Definitely. But there are some trades people that will just deal with it. We don't know what we are going to do at the other house yet. When we had the furnace replaced, the guy looked at the outflow? pipe, and said "That is probably asbestos tape". I asked if that was a problem? He said, "Not for me. Are you getting a permit?" I said no. He said, "Okay. I will install it on Saturday". 😃 And everything worked out fine. We had the realtor out last week and today. They are very helpful. We are still trying to work out how to proceed with the termite repairs.
  8. Get it tested first. The labs are online and will tell you how to take and submit the sample. It only cost about $35. If there is no asbestos, any painter will remove it. If there is, your options are pay a large amount of money for asbestos remediation. , do it yourself, or even sheetrock over it. It is a horrible, messy job. And you have to get it really wet. HD sells a scraper with a pole attachment that you can attach a garbage bag to. That's what we used. Or if you are really fortunate, you can find a painter, that doesn't care or just makes provisions for it. Co-worker's painter just removed theirs. And our floor guy was like that. I'm almost positive there was asbestos in the mastic for the original kitchen linoleum. He just brought in a big filtered vacuum air unit and removed it without any questions. ☺️ The leaf art is not horrible. Just not our thing. She put some on interior doors too. I will try to take a photo next time we are up there.
  9. I'm sure they are. Living room and hall. We had to tarp everything in plastic. Ours had a teeny bit of asbestos. I thought we could use a hand sprayer. But nooo..we ended up having to bring in the garden hose on the mist setting.. Bill scraped, and I lugged the full, heavy bags out to the trash. Horrible job. And one we plan not to do again. ☺️
  10. I don't think anyone intentionally installs popcorn ceilings anymore. 😉 We took ours out here ourselves. Most difficult DIY job ever! The other house still has some. Hopefully, we can pay someone to remove them. Also my mom's "leaf art" . For some reason she thought it would be a neat idea to modge podge a bunch of fall leaves on the wall. They will have to be sanded off. 🙄
  11. I was thinking maybe they could find a steamer that looks like a duck. ☺️
  12. Just wear it wrinkled. Or try some packing tips. Everyone else is going to be wrinkled. 😃 And avoid linen clothing. ☺️
  13. We've never had it, because we seem to end up with older, adopted animals, of uncertain age with pre-existing conditions. I think if we ever have a kitten, we will look into it further.
  14. I am glad Ricky is feeling better. I never thought about cats and dogs having blood types. I do recall that my Great Dane/Boxer mix dog was a regular blood donor. The vet just called one day and asked if I could bring him down to donate. And after that, he gave pretty regularly. I never asked, but they must have had dogs needing transfusions that were compatible. It was before computers, so we couldn't find out all these things. ☺️
  15. Rita's has been removed from all of the Radiance class ships and is just Windjammer seating. On Serenade, the bar remained last time we were onboard. But I have read recently on the World Cruise posts that it has been replaced by a smoothie bar.
  16. It is the window washing equipment. They probably park it there when it is not in use. it is fine and doesn't impact your view at all. Have a great cruise! It is not lowered, (that I have seen) it just slides along the side of the ship. Probably should explain a bit. A harnessed crew member stands on it and pressure washes the windows and balconies.
  17. Earthquakes always ramp up. (You just kind of pause and wait to see how much🤔) 1989 Loma Prieta was a 6.9. I was sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper when it started. And then it started ramping and it felt like the kitchen was going off the foundation. The ceiling fan was swaying broadly. At that point I went under the table. And then I went and found Walter the cat, who was flat on his tummy, all 4 paws stretched out and trying to hold onto the concrete in the driveway for dear life. I checked in with the neighbors who were all out in their front yards. I brought Walter back in and continued reading the paper. It wasn't until about 20 minutes later, that I thought to turn on the TV. And lots of stuff was happening. Surprisingly, we had damage from that one. There is a small crack in the driveway that continues all the way up through the concrete front porch. According to the Richter Scale, each whole number is a 10x increase in amplitude/magnitude. Fours shake stuff, but they don't do much. You think about yourself and your pets, then your neighbors and family, and then everyone else. Probably typical of most disasters.
  18. People sharing photos of the "damage" caused by the earthquake. #We will rebuild. My apologies, but they are very funny. ☺️🤣 People Are Sharing Pictures Of Damage Caused By The East Coast Earthquake, And Here's How It's Looking Out There (yahoo.com)
  19. We love Cup o' Noodles. And actually, have them once a week. Beautiful photos Helen! What a great experience and vacation you are having. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ☺️
  20. You do not need a Yellow Fever vaccine to visit French Polynesia. And welcome to Cruise Critic! ☺️
