  1. According to Norwegian's website, the Dawn had a dry dock in 2021.  So I would think that the next drydock is in 2026.

I did find a cruise for the Dawn this April-- a 10 Day one-- did not look to see if there was more than one scheduled.

I understand the disappointment as the itinerary is a "bucket list" item for most everyone on the ship, but there are risks in any itinerary.

I will not bother quoting the "T&C" on this as I'm sure you know they can make changes to itineraries for countless reasons without any compensation to the passengers.

I certainly hope they provide some OBC and FCC credit for the change.  We received OBC and 10% FCC for missed ports in Europe this past summer, so I would be shocked if something doesn't get credited to all guest once on board.

Like others have already stated, I don't believe removing the DSC, which compensates the staff who will be servicing you throughout your cruise, is the proper approach.

If it were me and I got no OBC or other credit I would modify what I typically do on the NCL ships:

    - I would not buy any Cruise Next Certificates (and i always buy those) and I would tell the GM exactly why I am not buying them this time.

    - I would avoid extra expenses on-board (less at casino, nothing at jewelry store, no spa treatments, for example) and again explain to the GM why.

In short, I would do everything in my power (short of penalizing those who continue to do the daily service) to make my on-board account close to zero!

In all honestly, for my typical cruises, that would deprive NCL of a larger dollar amount than cancelling the DSC.

That said, there is ZERO correlation to what is happening today and what is posted online for the '24-'25 Itineraries.  I don't understand why you would think they would change those just because this February, they are not able to cruise to those destinations.

I hope you still are able to enjoy the cruise and see amazing sights none the less!

Part of what you are saying makes sense.

However: (1) The Cruise next people work on commission, the more they sell the more they make.  No sales means no income for them and (2) Jewelry store employees and the spa personnel are sub-contractors again no sales, they lose income.  Is it fair to punish them for something they have no control over?

  3. May depend on where your cruise went.  For a Caribbean cruise, you might be fine.  If it is a cruise through the Panama Canal (Partial or Full), disembarkation can take a very long time-- no idea why it just does.

Too many risk factors for me, I always early early to mid afternoon flights when heading to the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

We’re due to be in Puerto Vallarta from 7am to 7pm tomorrow, so hopefully that’s enough time to get to the hospital, get mom taken care of, and — hopefully — go back on board before sailaway. Because the flight options home from Puerto Vallarta are surprisingly limited without 12-hours in San Francisco or without connecting through Toronto or Montreal (wrong direction!)

And it turns out I have a cousin in Puerto Vallarta (news to me!) who my mom used to babysit so he’s on standby to meet us and assist with anything we need if we do need to remain behind in PV.

    BEST WISHES

Happy Valentine's Day to you and Mom

  5. The very FIRST thing I do once I board is to check in at my Muster Station.  Just takes a matter of a few minutes.  After that I make whatever dinner reservations I may need, then check on what theater reservations that need to be made then it is off to explore.

    Enjoy your cruise

Can someone clarify this for me?  I have heard so many different descriptions - from a) everyone wears white to b) it's 80s night to c) this is the night to dress formally (for those that are so inclined), etc.  Then I heard they give you glo sticks, while others said to bring our own.

Also, where does this take place and what time?

Glow Party will be held in Spice H2O (back of the ship Deck 15) weather permitting.  The Party will begin around 9:45 P.M. Very loud music!!  No special clothing is required for any of the late night dance parties.

There used to be a "Dress Up or Not Night" the evening of the 1st Sea Day.  Do not see that reported very much any more.  The Captain used to be available for short period of time for pictures.  Do not how much that is done anymore, might depend on that particular Captain.

  7. The theatre doors open 30 minutes prior to each show.  Just be in line.  Theater seating is NOT assigned, just go in and find a seat.

For things in the Atrium, I go upstairs to the bar area of the Local and find a seat along the railing.

Try to be outside as you get ready to sail.  The ship will gently pull away from the pier, clear the ship in front of Her and make a very gentle "U" turn in the River sailing past downtown New Orleans on Her way down River to the Gulf of Mexico.  The trip down the Mississippi River about 8 hours.

    Enjoy your cruise

Along with all their personal items.  They brought them nboard took their clothing and incinerated it, gave them new clothing and has them attended to by the infirmary.  He said they had not had food or water for 20 days.  A few fish they managed to catch and some rainwater but he said it was pitiful, the condition they were in.  Two of the women were pregnant.  They consulted the head chef about a diet that would not overly tax their GI system as they had been fasting for so long and he took care of them.  They returned to Costa Maya to deliver them to the Mexican authorities, which is why they were late arriving back at port for disembarking.

off the subject but as he told us about ports that can be difficult, he said the captains refer to CM as Costa Maybe.  I thought that was cute.

There used to be an NCL Captain who called Costa Maya-- "Costa Missa".

  9. One thing to remember about Harvest Caye is that it is a collaboration between NCL and the government of Belize. As such, your key card will not work to purchase food and drinks.  The employees on Harvest are hired by the hospitality company and are not employees of NCL.

There are several officers we know from previous cruises who go out of their way to make our cruise feel special.  It's also great fun to meet someone new who can be added to our list of special people.  We truly enjoy getting to know the folks with whom we do business, whether it's a bank officer, an executive at one of my company's vendors, or one of the senior officers on a cruise ship.  Over more than a decade of sailing with NCL, we have had the opportunity to have dinner with 34 different officers.  Some of these dinners were with a group of several couples and one or two officers, but many times, especially recently, it has been just one or two officers, my wife, and me, usually in one of the specialty restaurants.  So, not only is there an opportunity for us to really get to know someone from the ship, we usually get treated to an additional specialty restaurant dinner on each cruise.  That's a few of the reasons we like to know which officers will be on board our sailings.

So, anyone know who the senior officers on the Pearl will be toward the end of this month?

Other than the Cruise Next Manager- George from Canada, no

Generally observing, every person on this cruise (with the exception of pre-schoolers…but even some of those) has an Android or iPhone. Many have a Chromebook or iPad of some sort.

Point being, using this technology should not be foreign to anyone.  Ordering from a tablet should not be confounding to anyone.

So, using their phones or tablets should not be an issues.  Moreover, it’s probably the most accurate way to plan and see what’s happening on the ship.

The dailies I post here will have little relevance for a cruise next month,  next summer, next fall, next year!

I am a 77 year  old widow-- I own NO electronic devices including a cell phone of any kind.  Even if I did, I would NEVER bring them on a cruise.  If I can not afford to lose something camera included it stays home.

  12. What time disembarkation begins can vary from cruise to cruise depending on what time the ship actually docks and what time the ship is cleared to begin disembarkation.  It might take some time to clear Customs at the port depending on whether you were on a regular cruise or charter.  If you have partially been through the Panama Canal, disembarkation may take a little longer.

With luck, disembarkation could begin between 7:00 A.M. and 7:30 A.M.

If there are other ships disembarking at the same time as the Pearl, the airport could be a nightmare with lots of people trying to check into the airlines at the same time.

If your flight is Noon or earlier, you might not make it.

  13. If you are wanting a New Year's Eve, it might be too late to book it for 2024.  Holiday cruises (Thanksgiving until mid January) are very popular and expensive.  They are great fun however.

I would suggest that you find a local travel agency to help you find something that meets your needs.

  14. The Freestyle Daily will give you a list of activities and times all day long.  Activities usually start about 8 A.M. and run until well after midnight.  The Freestyle Daily is delivered to your cabin.  All of the different dance parties usually begin about 10:00 P.M.

The White Hot Party has been replaced by the Neon Party.

NO special clothes are required for any of the parties.

    Relax and enjoy your cruise

  15. Just saw on another social media website that Staff Captain Robert Hammerin has recently been promoted to Captain.

That makes TWO NCL Captains in the Hammerin family.  Robert's father is Gunner Hammerin.

WOW!!  Congratulations to both of you.
