Until very recently, I would have said either The Pearl or The Sun, now I would have to say The Getaway. The ship itself is an experience. I sail on her again in a heartbeat. I had the great privilege to have sailed from Southampton, United Kingdom to New York City in January and again out of Miami in June. Wonderful ship and wonderful staff.

maldallasm1,
Were there any staff members that impressed you. What did you think of the Jewel?

You can mark on your laundry slip for Express Service. If it goes out early in the day, you might have it back that evening but next is more likely.

Go to the Cruise Critic Homepage- got to Community and look for the Mix and Mingle. Click on it and it will give you all the information you need.
I hope you enjoy The Spirit. She is a great little ship and very Oriental in decor.

The Jade MIGHT only be allowed to dock from 8:00 to 3:30 P.M. in Corfu. The authorities set the times Norwegian does not.
-
Enjoy your cruise. Your Captain is a very nice man from Croatia. Maybe you will get a chance to meet him- Captain Teo Grbic.

How are they getting there? I thought they had closed the airport. Maybe they left very early this AM?
Probably the Red Cross staging area is in Miami until they get clearance.

Good for you. People are always amazed that I lose weight on a cruise. I do a lot more walking on a ship than I do at home. My cabin is usually toward to bow of the ship and you have to walk a long way from it to almost anywhere onboard. I also am very careful with what I eat and what time I eat.

I got it from a very reliable source this morning that The Dawn will be going to Nassau, Bahamas and to Great Stirrup Caye (Norwegian's private island).
Best best for donations to help in the Bermuda recovery (for me anyway) would be The Red Cross. I have a friend who is a Red Cross Disaster Relief worker who is leaving today for Bermuda.

The Star goes into Dry Dock on the 4th March. I would doubt going into Dry Dock will make any difference as to the level of service or care by staff.

The Breakaway is Nassau, Bahamas today. Might be a bumpy ride back to NYC.
-
Where is the ship now!? Did they leave early because of storm? Not go at all? Or are they staying put if there? Feel bad for them! 😞

The Breakaway is NOT doing a Bermuda cruise now. They are doing a Florida/Bahamas cruise. Today they should be in Nassau, Bahamas. They will leave for NYC later today. It might be a bumpy ride.

Although we are not sailing on the dawn to Bermuda until next week, I have been closely monitoring this week's sailing. NCL posted this morning that they are "closely monitoring" the situation" but as of now, all sailings are as scheduled. It got me wondering about what is involved in changing an itinerary. I have to believe that it's easier with more advance notice, and it certainly would be the preference of those sailing to be able to plan (what to pack, cancel/book excursions, etc) before leaving home. So the question is, with a situation like a Cat. 3/4 hurricane making a direct hit within 24-36 hours of arrival...
WHAT'S THE REASON FOR THE DELAY?????:confused::confused:
There are a lot of logistical questions that have to be answered:(1) What is the Port of Bermuda saying? (2) If you have to change itineraries, what potential ports have space available on what dates (3) What is the weather going to be getting and from to a potential port? There are all kinds of things that have to be taken into consideration before they can make a decision.

Just think, some of you will be on a cruise that can bring fun and an adventure while I'll be here cleaning up. Which would you choose? :D
I am praying that this storm sifts a little and misses most of Bermuda. You have endured enough already. I pray that your family and property will be spared.

Cruise Critic has been reporting that The Jade was delayed docking in Bermuda on Sunday, which would be interesting because The Jade is in Europe. It was The Dawn that was delayed.
As I read the press release Kevin becomes President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (Norwegian, Regent and Oceania) while Mr. Madsen becomes President and Chief Operating Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.

I have often read people getting invited to tour the new ship or an event on the new ship prior to its first US sailing. I read some Cruise Critic members got invitations to the event for the Getaway. I was wondering how you get the invite. Do you have to know someone in the corporate office or is there a specific criteria you have to match?
Just curious how I can get in on the events.
For The Breakaway, they honored Hurricane Sandy victims. Usually the pre-cruise events for for industry people such as travel agents, local community officials and special invited guests. For The Getaway the invited guests including people from thee Miami Dolphins. I think that some of the Corporate Officials are allowed to invite "Special Guests". I have no idea how to get your name on that list.

A change in the ship's itinerary can happen once you are under way, it just did with The Getaway. The Dawn's Bridge staff will do everything in their power to keep everyone safe.

Interesting that's not how Seatrader painted it and it has been mentioned that Kevin Sheehan didn't see himself becoming boss of all 3 lines but seemingly that is exatly what he now is and Drew is just NCL itself.
The information I posted was from the press release from Norwegian posted yesterday on their website. If you want to read what it says go to: (1) Norwegian's website, (2) Corporate Banner, (3) Media Center, (4) Financial Press Release.
This information is in the top press release.

NCL have appointed Drew Madsen as the new head to replace Kevin Sheehan who apparently announced that after acquiring Oceania and Regent Seven Seas,he would not be head of all 3 and each would have individual heads,so presumably he plans to head up one of the smaller lines.Interesting, as he was a major driver for change at NCL.
Restaurant veteran is tapped for Norwegian Cruise Line presidency
I have just gone back and re-read the press release from Norwegian yesterday. What is says is that Drew Madsen becomes President and COO of Norwegian Cruise Line WHILE Kevin Sheehan becomes President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.

chengkp75: I would love to know who you are. I love sense of humor. Do you know one of the Chief Engineer's for The Getaway, Oeystein Undrum? Your sense of humor equals his.

chengkp75: I think synyc232 was asking Merrtime 123 if they could post a picture of The Pearl's Navigation Officer in case someone might know who she would be.
Merrtime123: I would suggest that your son write a letter to Norwegian's Corporate Office in Miami (7665 Corporate Center Drive, Miami, Florida 33126 giving them the details of your cruise, they will forward your letter to the ship's Captain. i have done it more than once and know it works.

Sir, whoever you are, I deeply appreciate your service to Norwegian as a Chief Engineer. It takes very special people like yourself to are willing to give so much and miss so much for your career. Chief Engineer's are my very favorite staff members. As someone who is about to embark on her 21st Norwegian cruise, I have come to appreciate Chief Engineers. THANK YOU

Is the Houston terminal in the same place as NCL's previous locations? If so, are there any hotels close by for pre-cruise lodging? I seem to remember there were not any hotels close by when we sailed out of Houston in 2000.
The Jewel in docking in Baytown on north Galveston Bay. According to the information, I have found, Baytown has a popluation of just under 72,000. I would assume there are lots of hotels and restaurants.

I was just looking at The Dawn's web cam from the Norwegian website. They are in some very rough seas at the moment. I know that their Captain will keep everyone as safe as possible.

Yes, I am a member of AARP and regularly sail with AARP rates. Worth membership, very much so that just because of cruise rates, many other rates including hotels.
