  1. O'Sheehans is there, complete on Deck 8 mid ship. Moderno Steakhouse is now on 13, next to Cagney's overlooking the pool area. Star Bar? Hmmmmm . . . can't be sure. I know there is a Mojito bar inside Moderno. Didn't see anything else on 13 unless it's at the other end of the ship.

I believe that the Star Bar was converted to become Moderno.

Do you remember who your Bridge and Hotel Officers were?

  2. Very excited for our upcoming cruise on the Getaway. We are in a forward cabin and wondering where we will board the ship and if anyone would share directions to getting to guest services .

Guest Services is mid ship Deck 6. From either Terminal B or C, you should enter the ship on Deck 7. From B, they are down the stairs and straight ahead. From C, they are down the stairs up a long corridor past several restaurants and to your left when you enter the lobby.

  3. I have actually been on this cruise before, but it was around Memorial Day/first part of June. I am wondering if going 1-2 weeks earlier would make any difference in the weather or availability of things to do?

Going earlier probably will not make any difference. I have done this cruise twice on The Pearl 24 May-31 May 2009 and 23 May- 30 may 2010. I can not wait to do this cruise because it is a 9 day cruise instead of the usual 7 day cruise.

  4. The Norwegian Jewel's first cruise to Alaska in the 2015 is may 7th from Seattle. Other than be cold (maybe) there should not be any problems. Only two ships at a time are allowed into Glacier Bay at a time. I can not wait for this cruise. The ice in Glacier Bay should be pristine and green and blue in color. In all the ports of call, things will be ready for passengers. Some excursions because weather might not go, but other than that, it is a great time to go to Alaska. This will be my 3rd cruise this early in the season. I would NOT go at another time. Because most schools have not let out for summer vacation, the ships should not be overly crowded.

  5. Hi all,

We're about to go on our first ever cruise on the Jewel on 1/17 out of Bayport. I've been reading the forums a ton (thank you all - just bought my travel insurance due to the high likelihood of fog), and I'm seeing a lot of references to things that I didn't know existed, so I thought I'd ask:

What are some things that first timers may not know?

Example: I've seen references to a Spa Pass, a Chef's Table, etc...I have no idea what those are, how much they cost, how to get them (although I've figured some of it out by context, lol.)

What are some things we should consider trying that we may not know exist?

Basically, I'm saying GIVE ME ALL YOUR SECRETS. =P

To answer your two specific questions:

    (1) Spa Pass- if you are going to use the spa everyday maybe it is worth it. Check with the Guest Service Desk- mid ship Deck 7 when you board and ask.

    (2) Chef's Dinner. Very nice evening (long). It is a multi- course meal served with an appropriate wine with each course. This is a set menu by the Chef and his staff. It is an interesting evening with a very limited number of guests. Again check with the Guest Service Desk as to when the dinner and the exact cost per person and then decide.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise. The Jewel is a great ship with a wonderful staff. I can not wait to sail on her in May.

  6. Taxis to the cruise port terminal from downtown is $7 per person, this is a set price.

Its a maze to walk there, I am in good shape, and have been there many times, and would not try to pull a bag to get there.

    Hire a taxi.

Taxis have a set price from the airport to the cruise terminal: a flat fee of $35 for the first 2, and $12 per person for 3 or more. Plus a $1 fuel surcharge per trip.

Have a great trip, we will be there in a few weeks. ;)

There is an active Roll Call going for the 18 January cruise. The Meet and Greet is 11 A.M. on Monday the 19th in Star Bar, if you would like to join us.

  7. NO!!! Please do not try this. I would come in the day before because if for some reason your flight is delayed or you get delayed either in the airport or traffic you would miss your cruise. Vancouver traffic is like any other very large city- very unpredictable. If I remember the airport is 18 to 20 miles from downtown Vancouver.

A suggestion would be to fly in the day before, stay at whatever the Norwegian partnership hotel and purchase the transfer from the hotel to the ship. Makes it really easy. Have done it a couple of times- no hassles.

  8. The Box Office for booking shows is toward the front of the ship on Deck 7. If you are boarding from Terminal B, it will be to your right as you enter the ship. I believe that it will open about 11:30 A.M., the morning you board.

The Restaurant Reservation Desk is located in the lobby of the ship (mid ship) on Deck 6.
