Chengkp75,
I was not going to get into this discussion either until I read your comments.
As stockholder, of the Company I applaud Mr. Del Rio and his efforts to improve the bottom line of the Company. At this moment, this Company is carrying a tremendous debt load: costs of 6 new ships (Epic, Breakaway, Getaway, Escape, Bliss plus 2 unnamed, the purchase of two companies), cost of going public. The everyday costs go up: fuel, insurance, provisions, government fees, not just US fees. Something had to give.
I will continue to support this Company and efforts to restore Her to financial health. I had to restore my own financial health, and I applaud Mr. Del Rio's efforts.

When I was on the Dawn this past January this past January was the same as it always has been.
Hope you have a wonderful cruise. She is an interesting ship with a great staff. I loved my cruise.

Have her check with the Norwegian Wedding Planner. I believe that weddings are ONLY held prior to embarkation and NOT done any more.

The only two where I eat on the Getaway are Cagneys' and La Cucina.

Which is better for you: Round trip from Seattle?
Jewel leaves on Saturday
Pearl leaves on Sunday
The Sun is ONE way from Vancouver, British Columbia to either Whittier or Seward, Alaska. Or those two cities to Vancouver.
All three would be great trips. If you can plan to either come a few days early or stay a very days and enjoy the cities.

Other than the location of the gift shops and one lounge there is very little difference between the two ships. On The Jewel the shops are at the back of ship on Deck 7- much better for those needing handicap access. Where the shops would toward the front of the ship is an open space lounge.
In choosing between the two ships, my question for you would be: which is better sailing out of Seattle and returning on a Saturday (The Jewel) or sailing and returning on a Sunday (The Pearl).
Both are great ships and both itineraries are wonderful.
You will enjoy either one.

My questions would be:
(1) What time of year are you flying?
(2) Flying from where to where
(3) Are you willing to chance something happening and not getting to the Port of Embarkation 2 1/2 hours prior to sailing time?
I also fly in the night before even flying a short distance. Too many things can happen to delay flights. I am not willing to risk it with or without travel insurance ( which is a must to me).

Would someone please post a list of current Senior Staff Officers both Bridge and Hotel? Thank You

I had the pleasure to sail on The Getaway from Southampton to New York City in January of 2014. It was a very interesting cruise but not for reasons one would think. There was
nothing "very special" about this cruise. It was interesting because there were so few passengers (1,088 passengers 1600+ staff members at least 40 from Meyer Werft and a number of middle management from Norwegian).
The Escape will be different in that there will be a lot more passengers, probably somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of capacity.

Last month it was Dan Dan
I think that the Cruise Director you are remembering is Sinan and he is not with the company anymore. Cruise Directors are on for 4 months and off for 2. the season or type of cruise does not matter.

In the late afternoon smoothies are served at the Atrium Bar area and sometimes cookies or other treats.

Yes, they deserve a party or two.
I just check Her bow web cam. They are in very rough water right now. Looks like a lot of wind and rain.

What do the contractors and crew do during their free-time? Is anything available for recreation? The pools, the gym, ...? What about food for the contractors?
I doubt that the staff or the contractors had very much in free time. The shipyard was saying that this would be a 24 hour a day operation in order to get almost all of it done. They were busy helping with everything. Crew mess would operate as normal and maybe one galley. They may have had an on board party on Friday.
A friend who is an entertainer went on board yesterday in Portland so there may have been a party last night.

I have booked a hotel in Miami through Norwegian many many times. Depending on when (the date) your cruise is, the price might be a little but the includes the shuttle to the port. I have stayed at the Miami Softiel Hotel located near the Miami airport. The hotel has a free shuttle to and from the airport. It is a nice hotel with a bar, restaurant, gift shop and they can make tour arrangements for you. It is located in a commercial area so nothing within walking distance, shops and other restaurants.

I heard 4:00 pm...today.
As bad as the weather is, I am glad I am NOT the Captain.
-
Does anyone know about what time She is scheduled to sail? Weather tomorrow will not be nearly as nice as when She sailed upriver.

If you need to double check the list in the other thread, the types of senior staff you're asking about are usually posted on a board somewhere near the theatre entrance, with their photographs.
The pictures posted near the theater are the Cruise Director and the Cruise Directors' staff.

Who were your Senior Bridge and Hotel Officers?
-
All of the Norwegian ships have some kind of training happening on every cruise.

ONE final thought on this: IT is American taxpayer dollars that are paying for: (1) the investigation, (2) jail expenses prior to trial (3) Public Defenders for each one at $300 an hour, (4) the cost of the trials and (5) the cost to imprison them for whatever the sentences may be.
Do I want my tax dollars spent like this; NO!!!

I think they were looking back in early February. On our sailing we arrived at the port really early, 9:30am. While we were in the cruise terminal two police officers with sniffer dogs walked thru the terminal and up the boarding ramp. As I stood by the windows I looked down and their was a large group of CG and another 6-8 police officers with 2 more sniffer dogs near the area food and trash is taken off. I believe they also boarded the ship
Laszlo,
What you are describing happens on a regular basis and is normal.
I am APPALLED that most posting think is is very FUNNY IT IS NOT. These young men have screwed up their lives, the lives of their families- parents, wives, children, others form their countries looking for employment, and their shipmates. Their foolish actions will have long term consequences.
-
The Getaway has Studio cabins meant for ONE person- no need to share or pay a supplement for sailing solo. I have stayed in them and they are really nice. There is a lunge to meet other solo passengers.
-
It is called young stupid, wanting something without working for it and NOW putting your shipmates in jeopardy, ruining your lives and the lives of their families.
DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!!!!
THIS IS BY NO MEANS FUNNY!!!

There are lots of goodies in the afternoon in the buffet.
cruising Alaska in May?
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
I will be leaving on the 7th of May for my 3rd cruise to Alaska. All have been in May. Other than the weather which could be very chilly, for me it is a great time to go. I do not feel that I have missed anything.
