  1. Just as an aside, we know that Sea Goddess II transited the Corinth Canal (I can't find any pictures on the web). But they were't the only Cunard ships able to fit. I believe the largest ship to sail the canal was the ex-Cunard Crown Dynasty - Fred Olsen's Braemar.

    Talk about a tight squeeze.

Out of curiosity, what Cunard ship made it that far upriver from Port Klang to KL?

It was listed on a Sea Goddess I itinerary which is why I initially thought it might be true. Nowadays you can't get any farther than the mouth of the river in anything larger than a rowing boat because of the bridges. Not sure about 30 years ago. But even if they docked somewhere on the river, I doubt they made it all the way to KL.

I had to settle for the rather less exciting visit to 'Ancient Corinth' archeological site and a stop over the Canal...

Was this on the 2008 cruise? As you no doubt saw on the video, we also did the Ancient Corinth tour. Could we have been on the same coach?

it is indeed Gythion. Initially you were unable to reconcile the buildings - did that turn out to be a  different place?

No. I found Gythion almost straight away but using Google Streetview I couldn’t get the buildings to match. The hillside was such a good match that it had to right. It wasn’t until @bluemarble commented that I went and found some older photos which matched many of the buildings.

My guess for the day is going to be 'The Corinth Canal'

Aah! Now I see it. I thought we were looking down at ice or something floating on the water.

  6. We’ve had an odd few weeks recently. April here was the sunniest on record, but also the coldest for something like 80 years. Now we’re into May and it’s well below freezing with snow, sleet and hail. We’ve got the fire lit again and at one point today there was so much hail coming down the chimney that it was hissing and spitting all over the hearth.

Another day for digging into the misbehaviour of my ancestors.

One relative was widowed when his wife died in October 1878. Not one to hang about he got married again the following month, November. I wonder if he was as surprised as I was when his new wife gave birth that December?  I wonder how he got on with his in-laws? It turns out the second wife was the daughter of his first wife’s twin sister!

  7. Gdansk/Gdynia: If it was different ships, different years, different brochures, etc. then I'd just assume that it was the usual "X (tours from port Y)" situation. But in this case the 1988 Vistafjord brochure shows a call at Gdansk on 17th August and then on the following cruise, a call at Gdynia on 6th Sep. It looks like a good possibility that in this case they might actually mean it.

Canakkale: I can see several calls at Canakkale in '97, '98 & '99 for Vistafjord, Royal Viking Sun, QE2 and both Sea Goddesses. The Sea Goddesses don't mention it being an anchor port which seems logical.

Goa: I've found calls by Sea Goddess I on 25th Apr '97 and SGII on 20th Apr and 6th Nov '98, and 5th Mar '99 but there's no further information than 'Goa'. There are photos on the web of boats that look bigger than the Goddesses on the Mandovi River so it looks possible.

I know I've just used my guess for today. Can I just say that I have found a perfect match for the harbour and hillside in this one, but not a single building matches!!! How likely is it that every one of them has been rebuilt in 25 years?😄

We've already had Gdynia (I don't have a problem with repeats) but Gdansk was deliberately on the unseen list as a separate port.

Some  cabins have a sofa bed which is great for a third person. Others a bed which will come from the ceiling over the sofa.  So the king size bed is not affected and there is still plenty of room.  These are great cabins but sell out quickly especially on the longer trips.

    On Qm2? Inside?

2 new ones from me - the first seems easy, the 2nd a little trickier? Bon chance.

OK I'll make a guess. I think the Panamanian flag is a red herring. And the old ship has been replaced by a concrete jetty.

I think this is Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica.

Maybe the architecture close by helps?

Well, that doesn’t change my thinking. So despite being unable to identify the first picture, and since nobody has come up with a better suggestion, I’ll just go with my first thought.

    Ghent?

I post this port because it is on the list even though I am very surprised, almost cannot believe that a Cunard ship has ever docked. I will  be very interested to learn about the details of ship and date.

Is this the only one outstanding? I'm no closer to identifying it.

Although taken on a land holiday this is now a shore excursion from a nearby port but was a Cunard port in its own right in the past.

I have a port in mind for this, but only because I had the same reaction to one port on the list. But I can’t find anything like a matching image or location. You’d think those lamp posts would be distinctive.

... here's another one off the new list.

    Hmmm.

I immediately thought 'I know where that is'. Then checked the list. Only to find it wasn't on it! So here's where I wrongly thought @Palmeat's post was.

I've double checked and it it is (or WAS) a Cunard port, and it has been mentioned already but not seen.
