  1. Looks like they changed the chef in Indochine. Rojaan really liked it on our recent Muse cruise. We got off in Cairns on 22/11. By the way are you the drkitkat we met the Qantas lounge in Sydney a few years ago.
  2. Though DW I have a terrible confession to make. I have a moustache and Rojaan loved Tom Selleck. But if you still want to meet as pair of rough Aussies we would love to meet up. We live on the Sunshine Coast just an hour or so north of Brisbane so can come down no problems.
  3. Doubt it as Americans are more likely to take legal action and awards larger than Australia.
  4. For the Nova, Ray and Expedition ships ties are not required. For the classic ships they are only required on formal nights in Atlantide/ MDR, Salt/ Indochine and La Dame. Jackets not required on Expedition ships and reported as optional on Nova and on Ray when it starts. On the classic fleet required in all restaurants except the Grill and pizza restaurant. La Dame virtually always a jacket required and usually in Atlantide. The other restaurants it depends on the Maître d. Though I have rarely seen it enforced in the other restaurants. And some times Atlantide has a Maître d who doesn’t enforce the dress code. And that is what makes it complicated.
  5. I think it is a given that cruises in the next 3 to 4 months through the Red Sea and Suez will not be going ahead. Their treatment of the passengers on these canceled cruises is pretty rough if you can’t have a refund and a discount. If you take the refund you will get no compensation for the cancellation. If you take the discount SS gets to keep your money for 6 months or more. I can smell a class action from Australians who have been inflicted with distress by these actions. I say this because it is allowed under our consumer laws and also because Australians will be irate when they find out we are being charged 5.5% more than Americans for the same cruise. I found out as we are in Bangkok at the moment and trying to figure out a replacement for a cancelled 2025 cruise. I can’t access the SilverSea Australian website as it defaults to the American website even when I type in the.com.au address in the address. The cruise we are looking at is $US11400 without any discounts which today would be $A17100 but the quote from our TA using the Australian office is $A18100.
  6. Well when working in Tasmania the Hospital had a black Labrador as a therapy dog. did 3 rounds of the ED a day. Was fantastic. The moment I remember the most was an elderly lady who lived by herself and found by her daughter on the floor on the morning visit. That lady spoke to no one even her daughter but after visited by the Labrador we couldn't stop her talking. As well one of the Hotels in Town had and older Golden labrador as it's mascot. guests were encouraged to take it for a walk. by mid afternoon the dog had had enough walking. It featured prominently in positive reviews of the hotel. So well done to RCL.
  7. As a friend of mine from Wales would say “Remember Fishguard “. Especially February 1797.
  8. I would love to do that circumnavigation of Africa. However passengers would really slow the Moon down.
  9. I see that you really have got into the swing of things down under with that last photo DW. i presume taken by an Apple device.
  10. First here is the ACCC guide as regards travel for both business and consumer. If SS does not pay the difference between business which you usually fly and economy you definitely have a strong case to claim the difference. And I posted my case to show that in some cases SS does give options and this strengthens your case for compensation. feel free to quote what I was sent. First the Scenic case where Scenic claimed that the floods were out of their control. the high court found they were liable for distress and discomfort and damages weren't limited. https://www.holmanwebb.com.au/blog/735/scenic-tours-left-with-10-million-damages-award-after-substantially-failing-in-its-latest-appeal Next Carnival lost their high Court appeal when they said they were a foreign corporation and weren't subject to Australian laws. They are and so will Silversea. https://www.seatrade-cruise.com/legal-regulatory/ruby-princess-passengers-win-class-action-against-carnival-australia And the ACCC guide. https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/publications/travel-and-accommodation-an-industry-guide-to-the-australian-consumer-law#:~:text=This guide provides information on,more detailed guidance for business You should start with your State Consumer Affairs Body and get their advice re next steps.
  11. Yes I prefer a Scotch Bonnet to a whisky. Never did take to it. My spirits are now mainly gin but a vodka or rum occasionally is OK.
  12. We have had a cruise on the Muse for may 2025 from Doha to Athens disappear from the website and from our bookings on My Silversea. We were sent an email from Silversea that the cruise was going to sail 3 days later and our cruise from SIN to Doha end 2 days earlier. Leaving a 6 day gap in between what was previously a back to back voyage from Singapore to Athens. This was the offer for the Doha to Athens cruise. Alternately, we would also like to offer for your consideration a saving of 10% to rebook on a future voyage. Please find below details of the options available: A. A Shipboard Credit of USD 500 per person to be used on your existing booking. B. A saving of 10% should you choose to book a different 2024/2025/2026 sailing when booking before 20 January 2024. This voyage-to-voyage (V2V) offer is combinable with any public fare. World Cruise excluded. C. A refund of the full cruise fare. And for the shortened first cruise. Alternately, we would also like to offer for your consideration a saving of 10% to rebook on a future voyage. Please find below details of the options available: A. A 15% savings off the new fare, combinable with any other public promotions. B. A saving of 10% should you choose to book a different 2024/2025/2026 sailing when booking before 20 January 2024. This voyage-to-voyage (V2V) offer is combinable with any public fare. World Cruise excluded. C. A refund of the full cruise fare So definitely they are saying pick one option. Our TA says definitely only 1 option but as we have only paid the deposit that would be moved to the new cruise if we took that option. I would presume for those that have already paid that would be moved to the newly booked cruise. Then you would have to ask is there going to be any refund if that cruise is less than the cancelled one. However for those in Australia The ACCC has amended it's policies re travel insurance after the cruise industry (Scenic and P&O ) lost cases in the High Court where cruises which don't sail in Australian waters are still subject to Australian consumer laws. The second case ruled that Australians can sue for distress and disruption with no cap on damages.
  13. We boarded the Muse in Yokohama on 9th October last year. Those from the previous cruise did have an excursion to a Japanese excursion before being taken to HND. However the weather gods intervened and it was a miserable, cold windy day that poured with rain so no one wanted to walk around the garden.
  14. And what they will be doing this Monday.
  15. Here is the thread about the Q&A.
  16. It is definitely due to the emissions issue. Back in October I reported on a Q&A session that Barbara Muckerman had on the Muse. I made this comment. "Ships that may leave the fleet. Wind, Cloud and Whisper. New environmental regulations due in the next year or so. Will be hard for these 3 ships to comply but hopeful they will remain until 2030/32." She did say those emission controls may be announced for May 2024.
  17. Not in that situation but with the Moon going from Athens and around the Cape of Good Hope to Mumbai it should reach there before February 11th to start the cruise to Singapore.
  18. The answer is no. Did a rough measurement of nautical miles from Piraeus port to Dubai or Mumbai and it is 11919Nm to Dubai and 11585 to Mumbai. From the Fincantieri website the Silver moon has a cruising speed of 17 Knots and max speed 21 knots. So using 17 knots 24 hours a day it would take her 29 days to reach Dubai or 28.5 to reach Mumbai. Now my measurements of distance were very rough but lets assume it is only 10000 Nm then at 17 knots it would take 24.5 days via the Cape. And that is not allowing for refueling, supplies, fresh water etc. So earliest that would make it's arrival at Dubai the 9th of February and the 8th for Mumbai. I doubt it would cruise at 20knots all the way but that would still make it 21 days so the 6th feb for Dubai. So extremely likely that first cruise would be Mumbai to Singapore.
  19. I just knew that one of the members on here would end up in the travel business.
  20. Now we can all play guessing games on how many of the Moon's cruises will be cancelled.
