  1. I could afford a Lexus but they are just Toyotas with a fancy name and often built on the previous Toyota platform. It is more like a status upgrade.
  2. Royal Caribbean is a mass market cruise line. They have thousands of berths to fill on their super sized ships. Royal Caribbean has spent millions for water slides, flow riders etc. They do focus on families and have focused on families since I booked my first Royal cruise in 1996. They do cater to adults by having an adults only area . Adults only lines are a niche. It is being filled by Viking and Virgin. Even back then cruises during school holidays and the summer had issues when there were a lot of children onboard. What is reported is nothing new except it is magnified because the ships are larger so they have more kids. The crew in 1996 and now is not equipped to handle sailings with hordes of teens.
  3. Royal Caribbean ships are designed for families. You are looking at the wrong cruise line if you expect adults only cruises.
  4. They don't enter the ship but they load the bags on to the ship. How do you think it gets onboard? A forklift takes the cages to the loading dock or they push the cages. Or in some terminals it goes on a carousol which is run by the longshoreman. The ships personnel do not take the luggage onboard. Union rules. The crew takes charge of it after it is loaded on. The only other way to get bags onboard is if we carry it ourself.
  5. You mean the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. There are two Chase Sapphire cards and the other one may not have the same coverage. I also buy more insurance when I use it for a cruise to get added coverage. For domestic trips the coverage is good. But they may need other insurance for pre existing conditions. While the card costs $550 there is a $300 travel credit so right off the top it is really $250 for me. There are other benefits that I use like for Lyft that add more value. Last year I was able to pay the annual fee with Ultimate Rewards points. Also it is one of the few cards with Primary insurance for rental cars. The card also has roadside assistance. It pays for Global Entry or TSA pre check For anyone who travels a lot it is a great card.
  6. Because they are not using https. That would matter if you were sending or receiving sensitive data. Banking or credit card info or logging in. I guess for a weather site they don’t think they need to bother with encryption.
  7. They answers posted are based on group knowledge and experience but you will need to contact Royal to confirm if nothing is a fact. Only Royal can give you a definitive answer.
  8. As I mentioned above ten day forecasts for Bermuda are notoriously wrong. Of course it could be bad weather but it really can’t be predicted until a few days in advance. If for some reason the pattern of high winds is repeated I think they will head to the Bahamas for a technical stop like the GEM. I think is a little early in the year for Canada.
  9. No. Often Bermuda cruises are diverted to the Bahamas. The problem though with any diversion if it is not an advance diversion because of a big storm, when the ship can’t navigate the channel because of high winds like with the recent bad luck it is not determined until they arrive at the channel. There may not be time to get to another port.
  10. I have never booked direct so I don’t know if they mention travel insurance but every travel agent I ever booked with brought up insurance. I usually don’t buy cruise line insurance but only 3rd party to avoid any pre existing conditions scenario. She always notes on the invoice cruise line insurance declined. Third party insurance does not have to be booked the same day of the booking. I do some research and my agent books the 3rd party policy we think is best for the cruise. I would be surprised if the Royal booking agent didn’t try to sell her insurance.
  11. I can't think of any cruise line that will budge. I have had good luck with hotels too like when I had to leave three days early from a Hilton property because of a family emergency. They actually said probably not but when I got my final invoice the three days were knocked off. I think because I was very chill when I explained I had to check out early.
  12. The offer you are taking about is a Platinum Card benefit not one of the card offers they have from time to time. I have not been able to ever make that work. Generally you have to book with American Express Travel for that program. When I priced with them it was more costly than booking with my travel agent even accountig for the offer. There are some indepndent travel agencies that have managed to be in the program but I have never had much luck finding them. Just call up a bunch of agencies and maybe you will have luck. I have offers on my card now for Oceania and Regent and not for Celebrity. Those offers don't require the Cruise Privilege Program.
  13. I don’t know about Covid now but you asked if her situation should be different. Covid policies were an exception. They don’t apply to her cancer.
  14. If you tell them you are sick they will evaluate you. If they decide you are too sick you cannot board. If the sick person does not have insurance then they made a bad gamble not buying insurance.
  15. They charge it to the cruise line. I have used the Amex offers several times and I always use a travel agency.
  16. I would do the Ascent. Should be plenty of flights to DFW. We have two airports. I have flown here on Southwest and American from FLL. I didn’t know about the eclipse but now I will mark April 8 on my calendar and try to find my eclipse glasses that I got for the total eclipse a few years ago when I lived in Maryland.
  17. Yes, good advice. Some travel agencies may have space bocked that will be returned. When we participated in group cruises the group sometimes had a some cabins that were returned to the cruise line..
  18. Accuweather forecasts for Bermuda are usually wrong. Bermuda is an island and the weather can only be predicted a few days in advance unless a hurricane is headed that way. Ten day forecasts are no good. Accuweather uses an algorithm. Also it is usual for there to be a rain shower every day for 30 minutes or an hour. So if it shows rain it can be sunny most of the day. We us the Bermuda weather service. http://www.weather.bm
  19. The port has been cancelled because of high winds and stormy seas. The navigation channels are narrow and February and March are when that is most likely. It really is Bermuda's off season. I believe this is the first year NCL has scheduled off season sailings. I would never book Bermuda cruise until May because it is not beach weather until the end of May.
  20. What sometimes they do is book two weeks. The first week is smaller. I was on Harmony of the Seas and the solarium was not turned into a kosher restaurant. Probably the group was too small to take over the Solarium that week. The big Yeshiva week was the following week and I heard they took it over that week..
  21. Exactly. The shcools usually do it in January but it is a school break. It is not a religious holiday. The private schools pick the week that suits them. The only way to avoid is not book in January. The cruises are not only on Royal Caribbean. They book them on NJCL too.
  22. What we did a few years ago on a group cruise was move people in the group around to help out. I think the person who had to cancel lost about 50%.
