  1. I don't like Carnival, mainly the ambiance and no quiet areas on the ship but the two cruises I had on Carnival the main dishes in the buffet and dining room were better quality than Celebrity. The deserts were lacking. Unfortunately both cruises there were activities during dinner where we were on teams that ruined the good food. Plus the servers had to dances and sing every evening. I wonder if they still do that.
  2. Actually I have found if it does not fill up in ten minutes they usually won't wait more than minutes even if not full. The vans are lined up and there is set amount of parking spaces at both ends. Usually it is full going to Horseshoe as I go between 8;30 and 9:00. But returning there are slack times so they don't always wait until it is packed full. The unfortunate thing in my opinion is that the first few years the vans held 12 to 18. Then they got vans that held 30 where all were packed like sardines. So personally now I take a taxi for $32 when I am not solo going to the beach.
  3. It is seasonal too. So they may not be working 40 hours a week at some ports.
  4. Over the years I noticed they often claimed cutbacks were an improvement for guests.
  5. I said in one of my posts that the reason the app worked on iPads was incidental. The code for iPhone apps will work on iPads. The developer does not have to do anything. But it is clearly an iPhone app designed for phones as it does not run full screen on a iPad. All Celebrity has to do is test their apps on iPhones betas each year, maybe make some code change for the iPhone app for the next OS version and it will incidentally run that way on an iPad. There is no guarantee that will be the case in the future and Apple has forked the iPhone OS from the iPad OS. It clearly is not supported on iPads. It runs without active support.
  6. I don’t expect to get fresh fish. Lobster tails are more flavorful if they are boiled live and served. If I order lobster at a restaurant I get the whole lobster not just the tails. We always had it available when I lived on the east coast so it did not mean as much to me as to passengers who did not go to restaurants that served Maine lobster. That is not to say that the rock lobster served on HAL and Princess is terrible or they should not have that lobster on the menu. What they serve onboard is meh but Lobster night on mass market lines is a tradition. They probably should not mess with that tradition.
  7. Pretty easy to figure out. She is on Reflection. December 31 sailing.
  8. That is not technically possible. In any case they are not blocking tablets they just don't update the code. Some reported that it works on Android 11. So code has to be rewritten to work on Andriod 12 as Android 12 broke the app. They update Android every year and are now in Android 13. If they wanted to support tablets on Android they need to test their app on devices during the beta period. The evidence seems to be they have decided not to. A buseness decision.
  9. I am saying they both are. I don't think it makes a difference whether they serve frozen rock lobster or not.
  10. Yes. They expect passengers will carry their phone around the ship. Most people are not going to be walking around with their tablet.
  11. Yes. the $7 vans run back and forth all day like shuttle. They leave when they fill up. In my experience it takes about three to ten minutes.
  12. They tried to cut out travel agents was part of it. That might have worked these days but back then online booking was a new thing. Oceania started with all R ships so it was sort of the succesor line. When a line goes bankrupt someone buys the ships without the obligations. Sort of a reorganization.
  13. Frank gel Rio the father used to lead Oceania. I think Oceania will raise prices not cutback.
  14. One of the main reasons dinner in the Oceanview was expanded years ago was to have an option for casual dress like shorts. I am not saying they will bend or change the rules but I believe they should if this huge cutback is real.
  15. Oceania may be under the NCL umbrella but you would never know it booking and onboard. They keep it distinct. It is unlike an NCL cruise. Their clientele would drop it if the quality went down. The problem would be if NCL goes bankrupt. Whatever cruise folks book on whatever cruise line all should purchase third party insurance.
  16. Maybe they will have to allow shorts in the MDR. Will fewer food choices necessarily drive people who use the Oceanview for dinner to the MDR?
  17. Bankrupcties and consolidation will solve the finncial problems. What else could? The Fed is pushing the economy into recession. Amazon is lying off 18.000 workers, etc. The cost of borrowing is going up. Recession is not good for discretionary leisure spending.
  18. It has not been proven that the other dining venues can't handle all the passengers. You all seem to think Celebrity has not thought it out. and the impact. You all sound hysterical. I think they have thought it out . That does not mean that it might not be a screw up. We have seen them screw up. If it is a big screw up they will change it. We have seen changes on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean that had to be rolled back.
  19. If they have or do eliminate traditional dining they will turn over more tables and accomodate more passengers.
  20. The international cheeses and chartucturie and the indian food. Did they have an indian food station on Equinox? My theory was it was the indian food was good because of the indian chefs.
  21. All cutbacks are a bad thing. I don’t know though how people stand the crappy buffets. I can’t eat even take lunch in the Oceanview anymore. They used to be pretty good. They need to go back to the good buffets. Instead of cutting back the dinner lido service they should upgrade it. In all honesty I am pretty much given up on Celebrity except for Bermuda sailings. Oceania or lines like it will get my bookings. The food and service is so much better. Food at their version of the lido is fresh and delicious.
  22. Most people don’t eat at the Oceanview for dinner. If they do it may be once a sailing. So only a few will be impacted by the cutback. Certainly Celebrity has factored that in. I don’t eat there because the Celebrity buffet food had become pretty bad. It is only good at breakfast. Breakfast is pretty hard to ruin.
