  1. That is the safest course but leaving Manhattan and Bayonne I don’t turn on airplane mode until getting to the entrance to New York Harbor. The ship is not at sea within the harbor. Cruising out of Baltimore it is hours to the Atlantic ocean so I turned on Airplane Mode before I went to bed.
  2. Back in those days passengers were not as savvy about Airplane Mode, data roaming and roaming charges. There are still a lot of confused people. Many did not understand or know what they needed to do when leaving the US. Then they got home and got the bill. So they would claim they had turned off roaming to get out of their mistake. I believe though that the cruise lines did not sufficiantly warn passengers and usually the persons carrier would forgive the charges. This was not just on Carnival by the way. It did happened on Royal too.
  3. Research is fine 😀 but your ship was beyond the US territorial limit if Cellular at Sea was on.
  4. US territorial waters are 12 nautical miles. 1 nautical mile equals about 1.15 mile. They can’t turn it on before reaching that. I have read that Cellular at Sea uses GPS to automatically turn on at distance. Probably not easy for passengers onboard to determine that distance. I don’t wait long after leaving the port to turn on Airplane Mode because I found with everything going on I could forget. Can’t go by still getting your US carrier signal because they have no limit.
  5. Of course you can. The ship has to be at least 12 miles from land to have their cell service on. They can't have it on in port. They don't have a license for it in the US and there would be the chance non passengers would connect.
  6. The above played on my Mac. However it does not play on my iPad. I don't have a player for Windows Media Files and don't intend to get one. I could not play the file in post 1. I suggest YouTube.
  7. Serenade is doing a 274 day World Cruise which is not for the average person. That is why they are adding the laundry rooms. It has nothing to do about what you desire. Royal Caribbean has concluded that people who would book the cruise will desire laundry rooms. Certainly they are not going to the expense, taking up space, adding plumbing and machines, adding an amenity that they have not had on any of their ships for no good reason.
  8. There are a bunch of different performances fabrics. I have been buying Prana with Stretch Zion Fabric. I prefer their Brion style. Another brand is Kuhn that has some similar fabrics. They are very good for travel. They sell them at REI and Dicks Sporting goods.
  9. If you cruised solo and paid a single supplement you should get double points. Sometimes I have had to call Captains Club to get those added. About 25% of the time they were not added until I called and had them correct my points for a sailing.
  10. I need one more cruise for free laundry on Princess but I won't book a cruise to just move up to Elite in their Captains Circle.
  11. If I think items are going to be sent to the laundry I pack items near end of life. I do have travel underwear now that is made to be hand washed and drys fast. Same with my pants. I pack performence pants that can be hand washed and they drys in a few hours and does not need ironing. Pole shirts and tshirts 60/40 fabric from Eddie Baur wash and hang up drys unwrinkled. I have a future goal of gettting my luggage on a cruise down to a carry on.
  12. It has worked fine on all the Princess ships I have been on. They have had them long term. Never had to wait for a washer or dryer. Also Azamara, Oceania and QM 2 which I have been on have laundry rooms but I never used them on those.
  13. I only utilize the free bag for underwear and t shirts after several ruined shirts. Packing for 13 days would mean too much luggage for me. I don't like lugging around luggage overseas. For cruises out of Florida I have booked hotels with laundry machines but never had a hotel in Europe with machines. I have switched to both travel pants and shirts and travel underwear that could be washed in the sink and don't need ironing so in the future a laundry room probably won't be decisive.
  14. I often have done 10 or 11 day cruises in Europe with pre and post cruises stays. So while I did not desire to do laundry I did do laundry. I also booked Princess for those combined cruises/land instead of other cruise lines because Princess has laundry rooms.
  15. I always take my smartwatch off of automatic sync on a cruise.
  16. Been on over 60 cruises and I have been on a number of cruises where the ship did not change time. Not unusual in the western Caribbean. Cayman often in the past and that was confusing if booking independent stingray tours. Also being back at the right time for the return tender. The clarity is always pay attention. ........
  17. Think about it logically. If a birth certificate and photo ID is allowed on your sailing then they won't reject an unexpired passport. Her passport is valid and is fine for the itinerary.
  18. I didn’t say they did. I was making a joke. In any case they don’t need to worry. All they need for their sailing is a valid passport. They don’t need to run out and get an expedited passport. I won’t be surprised though if the usual doomsayers who don’t know what they are talking about insist they need six months blah, blah blah
  19. And it is easy to get to from Hamilton. A $20 taxi ride or an inexpensive bus ride.
  20. Celebrity does not have uniformed staff at the pier. Only on their phone lines……
  21. All you will need is a valid passport for Mexico and the US. Celebrity will accept it.
  22. I think that famous homes boat tour is a good excursion. I would take a look at the tourism website GotoBermuda https://www.gotobermuda.com for ideas on what to see and do. Bermuda is easy to get around on your own. Also the Island Tour Centre.has a bunch of excursions. https://www.islandtourcentre.com
  23. It won't be like Coco Cay. For one thing it is not on a beach. Why are you cruisng to Bermuda? Bermuda is a destination to experience not to waste staying on the ship. If you want to sit by a pool you could book a nice resort in Florida. In any case if all you want o do is sit by a pool without a beach you might as well stay on the ship than pay for a day pass at Newstead where your view at the pool will be your ship docked across Hamiton Harbour. On the ship you will be in the center of Hamilton on Front Street. There are not may day pass options in Bermuda but there have been a couple of day pass options that at least are on a beautiful beach. I will let others comment on those as I have not done them.
  24. The only way I am aware of is setting up a members I follow activity stream. Under My Activity Streams select Member|Follow. You then add names of members you want to follow.
