  1. I have been on several volcanos. Although they could have erupted none showed activity like the one on White Island had. A red flag would be if they had us wearing gas masks like on the White Island excursion. . I would not have gone.
  2. All the webinar does is play. You don't interact with it. If they wanted access to my camera on my device they would have to ask for permission and they did not.
  3. The documentary was very careful not to point the blame. Probably for legal reasons. The cruise ship that had an excursion on the island when the volcano was Ovation of the Sea. The couple whose lives are ruined for life says they would never have done the excursion if they had been informed of the risk. They claim they were not. White Island is owned by a private company whose whole business was tourist excursions so the companies economic interest was to do the tours. The tours were popular and lucrative to the local economy. So I would say the cruise lines responsibility was incidental. In my opinion the private company that owned the island was primarily resonsible. Also In my opinion the the NZ government should have prohibited those excursions.
  4. Elite Plus, when I don’t have drinks included I get specialty coffees. That is the very nice to have. Otherwise meh.
  5. The caveat is that all insurance plans are not alike. When I was working my employer plan would have covered 80%. It covered outside the US but was considered out of newtwork. Some plans cover nothing outside the US. I always bought primary travel insurance (not secondary travel insurance) since travel insuance covers medical evacuation.
  6. You registered through Gotowebinar. When you watch you click on a link to watch. They know when you connect and disconnect. They of course don't know if you are paying attention.
  7. Some US insurance plans cover medical expenses outside the US and others do not. If yours does you have to submit it, the ship won't.
  8. OP was asking about ticket booklets. Tokens and transportation passes are sold at the Dockyard.
  9. Not sure I undersand your question. You have to pre purchase tokens before getting on a bus. Or else pay with exact change.
  10. The NCL ferry was operating today. I saw it on the Port of Bermuda webcam docked across from the NCL Gateway.
  11. I don't do Celebrity excursions so personally their restictions don't effect me. I have been booking independently for years and I am comfortable researching independent tours. I am very good at it. The problem though is that there are Celebrity passengers who only feel safe booking cruise line excursions. `Who are not into doing the research. Some believe they will get stranded in port becuase the cruise line markets excursions that way. I read a lot of reviews of independent tours before booking. That takes time. If I did do ship excursions and was coming up against Celebrity's and Royal Caribbean's busness decison to age restrict then I would have to make a busness decison to book with other than Celebrity/Royal Caribbean. Really easy to do......
  12. The risks are low but you limiting yourself to Caribbean and Mexican itineraries. So boring. Every port is the same. There are wonderful experiences to be had outside of the closed loop itineraries. I can’t imagine not having a passport and only doing cruise vacations.
  13. The limits are some policy that Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are imposing. I have seen the same excursions offered by other cruise lines without the age restrictions. I don’t worry though about Celebrity’s or Royal Caribbeans restrictions because I usually book direct with the tour operator for the same excursions and I have never had one turn me down because of age. Rarely is the cruise line the exclusive vendor although I have run into that on rare occasions.
  14. The OP was asking for informtion on the dress code and the two photos contained information that in my experience Celebrity passengers are following in their wardrobe choices. . It seems you are stressed about feeling comforatable on Celebrity and your posts are reflecting .that fear. You will feel comforatable wearing the same type wardrobe on Celebrity as on Royal Caribbean except for shorts at dinner. It would not bother me at all if dress shorts were a choice at dinner in the MDR or Blu or if you showed up in shorts. If you wear shorts and they turn you away though you might feel uncomfortable. I am told that some MDR hosts do turn away passengers with shorts but I can't verify that as I never observed that happening. Other than the first night I never recall seeing anyone in shorts at dinner.on Celebrity which is unlike what I have seen on Royal Caribbean where a lot of passengers wear shorts at dinner in the MDR. Celebrity has definetly relaxed their dress code but not as much as Royal Caribbean has done. You may want to take that into consideration in picking you wardrobe.
  15. OP is doing their first Celebrity cruise and was wondering about the dress code. About shorts at dinner. They may have cruised on other cruise lines. The replies were respectful and informational. about Celebrity. Yours was not. I see from your signature that you have mostly cruised on Royal Caribbean. What happens on Royal Caribbean is not the same as on Celebrity. On Royal Caribbean there are a lot of shorts at dinner. On Celebrity there are not. I don't tell anyone what they can or can not wear. I was stating a fact. I leave it up to the cruise line to enforce or not enforce their dress code. I don't know if Celebrity is enforcing no shorts or not or passengers are just complying on Celebrity but I know what I have seen passengers wearing.
  16. Having a bad day? This was a civilized thread until you came along.
  17. Eight hours is not a short time window. You have plenty of time. From Crown Bay Meagan’s would work fine and there are chair rentals there. If you don’t mind a beach with no chairs Brewers will work for you. That’s what local feel means. The locals have their own chairs and coolers to bring to the beach. Make sure you arrange for a return taxi!
  18. If she is not convinced by the document she descibes and by what the Celebrity rep saying it is fine why would she want to be convinced by random strangers on the internet. Simple solution if he has time is to get a passport.
  19. Why are you not convinced? What more would you expect? Have him get a passport then no worry.
  20. Read the FAQ link in post #4. They specifically call out designer jeans as being part of the dress code on Evening Chic evenings. I think dark wash jeans would be in that category. Your description of with dress shirt and nice belt and shoes sounds exactly like what they ask.
  21. Lindquist Beach is the one I would do as a ship excursion if Celebrity still offers it. They did not name the beach, it was some generic description. It included chairs. It is near Sapphire. There is Coki Beach which has very good snorkeling but I advise skipping unless you want to snorkel or scuba. The vendors there are obnoxious and it was not all that clean. St. John has several great beaches.
  22. I wouild not usually take a ship excursion to the beach because often I feel like leaving earlier or later than the excursion times. If a rain storm comes in I might not want to stay. Or I might get bored. If it is really nice I may not want to leave. Maegans Bay been a few times and I would never do as a ship excursion. There was another beach there though where the beach was not crowded, the excursion operator provided chairs and beverages because no beach bar. I would do that agian as a ship excursion.
  23. The dress suggestion is on the website. But it is fair to ask if what is on the website is reality. Slacks and no shorts is the safest way to dress every night. They do cut some slack the first night. There are no formal evenings, there is evening chic. On evening chic evenings both dressy casual and more formal wear fit in.
  24. January is not a particularly rainy month in Bermuda. Like anywhere Bahamas included it can rain. If it rains it usually is a quick down pour. I pack a cheap plastic poncho ad a small cheap umbrella but have rarely used thme. My motto is if I pack them I probably won't need either but if I don't I might be caught short. The air temperatures are on the cool side. It won't be beach weather. Air temp in the 60's so pack a jacket and sweater. Given that you might need a jacket in the morning but might not want to wear it in the afternoon at that time of year I would have a daypack to store a sweater and stuff.
