Other than the fact the article referenced is from 14 months ago, and the medallion app doesn't appear to have improved since then.

Brother in law refuses to use medallion app
julie3fan replied to debster11's topic in Princess Cruises
Don't both parties have to agree for tracking to be enabled? Seems short sighted to allow that and then stray! -
I'd guess it's refundable OBC, in which case it would be refunded in the normal manner.

AARP Raises Limit on Gift Card Purchases
julie3fan replied to Rick&Jeannie's topic in Princess Cruises
Me too, but for a slightly different reason. I was signed in on my account, then fully signed off and closed my browser completely. Reopened the browser and I tried signing in on DH's account, and it showed the proper credentials, but when the page loaded it was signed into my account. I'm leaving it for a few days...... -
I've successfully packed a 12 pack of canned sodas in each of the 3 suitcases me and DH check with the porters. None have ever appeared to have been opened. YMMV.

AARP Raises Limit on Gift Card Purchases

March 1st. -
That would be the logical way to handle this. I think it's awkward that the OBC balance doesn't reflect the excursion reservations when booked, and apparently it doesn't reflect the refunds either. I hope you get your $400 back!
-
I'm sure it can be cancelled, but according to voljeep the OBC is not refunded. Thinking on it logically, that doesn't seem right, but I don't have first hand experience. I hope I'm misunderstanding this, or that a key word was missing from a post.

Oh, no, really? I just booked 2 different excursions on the same day, different times, to hold them until I could talk to DH as to which he'd prefer. Are you saying I'm stuck with them both?
-
Yes, but not necessarily with the old-style shared table experience. You might get lucky with a shared table the first night where you enjoy everybody at the table, and they all want to continue at the same time, same table every night, *and* you get the DR manager to assign you the same table the rest of the cruise. There haven't been too many reports of all that lining up, so I imagine it's not happening very frequently. Sadly.

You bring your cell phone in the hot tub with you? You're a brave soul!

Haha! You are *really* planning ahead! š¤šš¤£

The medallion is used to "pay" for your drinks or other onboard purchases by identifying who you are, like the old key cards, but you can order from one of the smiling, friendly, helpful servers. It is also required to be presented when boarding or leaving the ship. And it is how you unlock your cabin door. At no time do you have to use your phone once onboard.

Might be easiest to just pick up the Medallions at the pier, so you don't pay the $10 shipping charge (if applicable) and then not get them before you leave home.
-
YMMV, but I've always put a 12 pack in the bottom of each suitcase and checked them with the porters. It's never looked like my bags have been opened, let alone been called to the naughty room to collect them.

You can't bring bottled water aboard. Princess offers a package, pre-cruise only, of 12 bottles (Ā½ liter?) for just over $7. And of course you can always bring an empty refillable bottle and fill yourself.

Tax free, free money!

Thank you both so much! I understand things can change between now and October, and I'll monitor this thread for potential changes, but it's nice to know this at this point.

I realize I'm quoting a post from a year ago. Is the no fee for over weight luggage for ALL airlines, or just the line this particular poster was referring to?

Changing items on mini bar on Royal Princess now done by steward
julie3fan replied to Shelly97060's topic in Princess Cruises
Is it a one for one swap? Example, one miniature liquor or one beer for one Coke? -
And that purchase will also earn basic points or miles on the credit card you use to buy them!

John Bull and Globaliser, you are both such a wealth of information, and so generous to share your expertise. Thank you! Iām starting to look into our pre-cruise arrangements, and I feel like Iāve read so much, that Iām just confusing myself now. Weāre doing a British Isles cruise the end of September, then doing the TA back to Florida. Weāre flying into Heathrow from Switzerland on Wed. Sept. 27th, arriving 11:25am. Weāll have that afternoon and evening, then the entire next day for sightseeing, before needing to be in Southampton to board the Regal Princess on Fri. the 29th. Iām looking at the things weād like to do/see in London, and I think this is what Iām leaning towards. In no particular order, the London Eye with the accompanying Thames River tour, the Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Covent Garden, maybe a HOHO bus tour, and Borough Market. It looks like those are all in the same general vicinity. Of course, I have lots more time to find things to do, but thereās only so much one can squeeze into a day and a half! The help I need from you is to help me decide what part of town to stay in the 2 nights. Do we get a hotel by the airport and leave our bags, head to London proper for sightseeing the first afternoon, back to the hotel, back to London proper the next day, back to the hotel, then to Southampton Friday morning? Or do we go directly to London proper for a hotel for the 2 nights, then Southampton Friday morning? If you suggest staying in London proper, what neighborhood should I consider that will be most convenient for arriving from Heathrow, and departing to Southampton? Though I donāt like to spend money needlessly, I am more inclined to spend a little more in order to not have to drag our bags on and off too many different modes of transportation, or walk too far with them. After I get this all sorted, I guess the next step would be to determine the transportation. The train, shared coach transfer, etc. I have plenty of time for that, though. I mainly want to get a hotel booked so I can hopefully get a decent rate, booking so early. Thanks again!
