  1. Not sure about NZ citizens but we have previously had an Esta and currently have another and each time it has included multiple US visits as it lasts for 2 years.
  2. We had dressy night on the Oosterdam while cruising the Chiliean Fiords. A good night. Hope everyone enjoyed it.
  3. The best way to travel back then was to be a third class passenger with a lot of charisma and artistic skill that would get you access to a rich man's fiancee, but also enough smarts to get your own door and stay above the water
  4. True, it isn't the lake Argyle dam, or the old river dam, but it is the Ord river diversionary dam.
  5. We went to Brujo glacier this afternoon, it was just glorious even with the light rain we had, it just meant poor visibility for photos but the most amazing blues in the glacier.
  6. Ordinarily I wouldn't know one dam photo from another.
  7. We went ashore after lunch, walked around for a few hours, most shops were shut, not sure why, perhaps as it is Shrove Tuesday. Saw some nice things, bought a hat and some new sunglasses. We will have 2 days scenic cruising of the straits and fiords before Puerto Chacabuco.
  8. We are tendering, just received clearance. We will wait for open tendering. 14 degrees and windy, no rain forecast but who knows.
  9. The NCL Sun is coming with us into Chile, as for the Star, such a shame they are only visiting Elephant Island for the next couple of cruises.
  10. Went ashore and got a taxi for 4 hours. We went to Terre del Fuego NP and had a wonderful time.
  11. We are in Ushuaia tomorrow 7am till 3.30pm, then scenic cruising up the Beagle channel to Chile.
  12. A relatively smooth crossing, swells did increase for a while to around 5m but it was still smooth. They then subsided and now it is a drake lake as we head towards Cape Horn.
  13. They will take any and all donations to their sailing fund.
  14. It depends greatly on the location here, tourist hotspots of course are more prone to the practice, but even still it is random and not forced.
  15. Antarctica was wonderful, we had 4 days of scenic cruising around various bays and such. Lots of icebergs, glaciers, ice shelves, etc. Tons of wildlife, whales, seals, penguins and birds. Visits to several stations dropping supplies, and other ships. Another amazing trip. The swell is around 3m but relatively smooth so far.
  16. Iguazzu falls, IMO and also quite a few others, the Brazilian side is the better side. Argentina's side of the falls have you above them looking down over them. There was a boardwalk across many parts and although I am not sure if it has been replaced after washing away, there was a section that has you looking down the devil's throat. Brazilian side has you at the bottom of the falls looking up at them and t here is a boardwalk that takes you to the bottom of the devil's throat. You will get misted on so bag up your cameras like maid of the mist. There are flights over it and also boat trips that take you under it as well.
  17. Sounds like most places will take a card, the rest will take cash and USD is likely preferable as long as you are a bit flexible. You can always exchange some USD for pesos once there. As for taxis, negotiate first use your card or even organise a transfer from the airport, viator or get your guide have some reasonable ones.
  18. Just had some discussions with various nationalities onboard and the all agree, that paying the price advertised is preferable and some wish their particular country would do the same.
  19. Welcome to Cruise Critic and thanks for the pics, you are definitely not alone.
  20. I suppose it really depends on how long you will be in Argentina, where you go and what and where you plan to make purchases. I found their was no need to have pesos at all.
  21. Using USD directly, I think they prefer it as it doesn't get affected by their inflation. Not sure what the tourist rate was but we thought it was reasonable - $43.20 for a bill of 32,200 pesos in a restaurant.
