  1. I have a cruise coming up and am recovering from Pneumonia. I know there are no health forms to fill out anymore. I cannot remember what the question is that the check-in people ask regarding respiratory issues and how many days prior to the cruise you have had symptoms.  Does anyone know?

FYI I am respecting my health and the health of others.  I have no intention of giving false information and I have travel cancellation insurance.

  2. Yes it is different. After handling the OVC tongs, I use my personal bottle of Purell to sanitize my hands before eating. In the MDR, I Purell after handling the menu and before picking up my utensils. I expect those utensils to not have been handled by any other passengers.

  3. Am I understanding correctly that:

    - During window washing in one area of the ship, all balcony windows will be locked.

    - While in port, the windows will be locked to prevent birds from flying in. (So if you decide to stay on board, you cannot use your balcony.

    - If there is any chance that it might rain, ie. it's overcast, the windows are locked.

  4. On recent Reflection TA.  Elite +.  Not on a drink package. Went up to the Sky Lounge (half a Sky Lounge on Reflection), and it was jam packed - not a seat to be had.  The noise level was ridiculous.  Was very happy to be able to go to virtually anywhere else - with appetizers in Passport and Ensemble bars.  Select 8pm diners, so glad to be able to get a drink anytime after 4:30pm.

  5. I have done 5 TA’s in the past 5 years. On every roll call, people with drink packages were offering to give their elite drink coupons to fellow passengers who had not reached elite and were otherwise not entitled to them.  Just sayin’.

Personally, I much prefer not having to remember to bring my dated coupons with me every evening, and having the option of going to other bars, especially when we just want to quickly pick up water bottles or soda. YMMV.

  6. Thank you all who provided me with advice and options. I thought I would follow up with what we ended up doing.

The line for an SUV taxi was just a few minutes. Luggage and collapsed scooter were loaded up. We told the driver we wanted to go to the airport but first stop on the way there. Asked him if he would be willing to wait with the meter running and he said no problem.  With a15 minute wait at the bank the total fare was $28 plus tip.

Worked perfectly and we we didn’t have to unload and load again for 2 separate rides.

Uber now allows you to add stops in your ride.  When you open the app, you can add the intermediate stops right there.  That will let the driver know that the ride will be more complicated (and moe expensive).

Look on the Uber site for instructions on multiple stops using Uber.

Click on "Where to?" then tap + next to the destination box to add stops at any point before or during your ride.

Thank you for this very helpful information.

  9. Wow. That’s a lot of negative assumptions you’ve made here. Of course I expect to pay for the waiting time one way or the other. I understood that there is an actual per minute charge for waiting.

I was was hoping to avoid having to unload scooter and luggage, schlep them into the bank, and load them back into another car. And I fully expected to pay for the convenience

I think that is an awful lot to ask if you want the Uber driver to wait 15-30 minutes for you while he/she not only goes out of the way to stop the bank but then also wait.  You can discuss with that Uber driver when they pick you up ...

Be prepared to discuss with the driver that you will leave a very hefty tip for the extra mileage and waiting time ... if 15 minutes, I would tip at least and additional $25 and if 30 minutes, an extra $40 or $50....in cash!  I think they have a little flexibility so it might be worth discussing.  If not, maybe book a trip to the bank and book another trip from the bank to the airport.  It really isn't all that far from Port Everglades to the FLL, so your stop sounds like it could be longer than the drive from the port to the airport.

Another option may be to book a town car that charges by the hour.

  10. Disembarking tomorrow, Monday morning on Reflection.

Thinking about using Uber XL for the first time instead of a taxi. Expect to leave ship 9:30am.

We have a collapsible scooter and 2 suitcases, 2 tote bags. On the way to the airport need to stop at a particular bank 5 minutes from cruise port. Will want driver to wait 15-30 minutes, then straight to Fort Lauderdale airport for our 1:30pm flight.

Will using Uber XL help us avoid the long taxi wait lines (waiting also for appropriately sized taxi)?

Where exactly is the Uber pickup point at the cruise terminal?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

While I understand how 'distressing' this situation can possibly be, I would like to know how often you have encountered  this passenger and/or Service Animal? This one (1) time or more frequently?

How long were they in the shopping arcade where you initially encountered this 'issue'? Do they eat in your dining room within ear shot of your table? What about the theatre? The pool area? OVC?

If barking is often and in more than the one (1) venue for extended period of time (7+ minutes), then a chat with the Hotel Director is in order, otherwise....

If it is, so far, this one (1) time, not sure how it could be distressing, yet since you are at best in the middle of your sailing, there will be more time to let us know about the number of times they have distressed and disrupted the sailing.

While certainly most Service Animals (and passengers without SA's) will conform to many of our ideas and ideals for sailing, there are times when these dreams do get shattered and must be addressed.

    Continue to enjoy your sailing.

    bon voyage

I don’t.  believe I said I was distressed when finding myself in the same place as this dog. But to answer one of your questions FYI, I have encountered the dog in the stroller several times. Yesterday while having lunch, said dog was being pushed from the outdoor eating area of the Oceanview to the elevators. When leaving the Oceanview, a passenger on a scooter had to wait for another elevator because the dog stroller took up the space where to scooter could have been.

If this dog is indeed not a legitimate service dog, it is as distressing to me as people who illegitimately park in handicapped spaces or illegitimately take an accessible stateroom to get a larger cabin at a regular cabin rate.

  12. I’m currently on the Reflection TA. I’ve read about this on this forum but never experienced it personally until now. I won’t presume to know the issue the passenger has that required her to need a support animal (but I assume that is the only reason Celebrity would allow it).

However I question what special training this dog has given that while the owner was shopping the clothing racks, her dog was yapping loudly and not obeying when she told it to be quiet.

My understanding is that properly trained legitimate service dogs, including those that serve persons with PTSD or other diagnosed psychological issues, autism spectrum issues or diabetic issues, do not yap or bark indiscriminately.  Nor are they pushed around in a stroller. Or am I wrong?
