  1. It depends what you mean by universally accessible. It's true that just about anyone with an internet connection can go to FB, but it doesn't follow that they can see everything about you. I routinely post things on there that are visible only to people I'm friends with. Personally, I don't have a problem posting when I'm on vacation (though I'm normally too busy having a good time to bother), because I live in a very safe community, my neighbors always know where we are and we have a house sitter. And a video door bell. So I don't have the same level of worry as some do.
  2. Just out of curiosity, why not? I genuinely want to know why people are afraid of saying they're on vacation. (Especially since, if you post a photo of yourself overseas, it'll be fairly obvious, anyway.)
  3. Probably internet issues, that'd be my guess. Always go with the most likely cause before worrying.
  4. Are you really that upset because you might have to wait a few hours to get on the ship? (9 am vs 12 pm?). It's not a big deal and you're likely to be able to board whenever you want, anyway. Case in point: a similar thing happened to me and my wife, I did my online check-in and got 11 am and my wife got 1 pm. We both showed up at the port around 12:30 and had no issues, no one even asked our boarding time. Have a great cruise, that's what matters most!
  5. Appropriately enough, given the brand's history.
  6. That's just it-we don't use a PCC, we have our own TA who does all of our bookings.
  7. Thanks, I saw the other thread about 3 seconds after I posted mine. 😁
  8. Ha! I just posted a similar thread about the same thing. Good news travels fast, I guess!
  9. Thought I'd share this: a few minutes ago, I was contacted by phone by a personal cruise consultant from NCL. After introducing herself, she told me about an interesting promotion that's good only until Jan 5: we can book a balcony stateroom or above on any cruise (no time limit on when the cruise sails, but has to be at least 6 months from now) and use up to 3 Cruise Next certificates. I've never heard of this before, and she claimed it's the first time they've offered this. So there you have it.
  10. Be grateful you're there. One passenger posted earlier this week that she'd never make that cruise due to ongoing flight cancellations. Sometimes it pays to count your blessings! Hope things improve soon!
  11. Not related to this particular cruise, but on our TA earlier this month (Norwegian Epic), we skipped both of the 2 ports we were supposed to visit. The only information we got about the first one was what I read on a FB group, nothing at all from NCL. So there you go....
  12. SO glad you made it. With all of the news about flights being cancelled (esp SW), it's easy for me to get lost in all of the statistics. But when it's someone you're actually talking to online, in real time, it's somehow more tangible. I kept updating Flightaware to check on your plane's status and was relieved to see it landed (though you were certainly more relieved than I!). Have a great NYE cruise!
  13. Things are looking better now for 2023 than they have since spring of 2020.
  14. Thank you for the tips (and to the OP for asking about them). Our first-ever cruise on Oceania is a little more than 3 months away, but we're already in planning mode so these tips are quite helpful.
  15. Can anyone recommend Oceania restaurants for non-seafood eaters? I don't particularly care for it and my vegetarian wife eats NO seafood and NO meat whatsoever. I see people going on and on about seafood items but we aren't into that. Any good options for us?
  16. Are you on flight 1341? That one flies from Midway to Orlando at 10:40. So far, all looks good for that one, the inbound flight from Denver is still operating and, according to Flightaware, your flight is still on schedule. Keeping fingers crossed for you and your NYE cruise!
  17. No, that isn't correct. The DSC is higher for Haven than Club Balcony.
  18. I feel disappointed on behalf of the OP, too. I'd just say that entertainment is like food in that it's very subjective. You may not appreciate the comedians and their sense of humor, but maybe others might. We were on the Epic recently and only saw 2 shows, both of which were outstanding. We don't tend to go to live things such as piano bars, singers, Beatles tributes, etc. nor do we tend to see comics or magicians, and we had a great time. But I agree that the offerings for the OP were lackluster. That's a shame. Hopefully the OP took the time to tell NCL about this.
  19. We were on Epic December 7-16 and in H20, never experienced those issues.
  20. Reading this thread makes me grateful I didn't pay for the Plus upgrade. Nothing like paying extra for something only to find you end up not getting it.
  21. According to one site I looked at, the ship departs from Orlando on 30 Dec and the first port is Cozumel on 1 Jan. Worst case, you might have to be flown to Cozumel to catch the ship, but it would be better than missing the whole cruise. It looks like it's a 9-day cruise so even losing 2 days you'd end up with a 7-day.
  22. I'm sorry for the craziness of the weather and hope you're still able to make it. But I applaud you for getting travel insurance just in case- that's exactly why it's a good idea to purchase it! Check this site from time to time, it looks like most Chicago to Orlando flights are still on schedule, even if sometimes delayed. https://flightaware.com/live/findflight?origin=ZAU&destination=KMCO

You might want to reconsider this cruise, then, if you're so worried about that scenario. My wife and I have been looking forward to this cruise for several years now. We've already bought our round-trip airfare, so in case the cruise gets cancelled, we would probably end up doing a land-only vacation. For now, we're remaining upbeat about our cruise. Since we've been on 10 cruises together now, we're all too familiar with the possibility of changes and cancellations, but if we allowed uncertainty over these things to dissuade us, we'd never vacation at all. Uncertainty and risk are just a part of life, which we acknowledge and accept. Japan is more open now than it's been since early 2020, so that's one of the reasons I'm sanguine about our chances.
