  1. My job has an extremely annoying clause in our contract. Everything we get paid is by direct deposit. Except, there are two types of extra pay (a bonus for seniority and a bonus for working nights). that is still paid by check. The contract is written that way because alot of the wives have no idea those two bonus pays exist. So they cash the check and pocked the money. I work multiple outside jobs and everything I get paid anymore is direct deposit. But I still have to pick up and deposit these two checks.
  2. I agree. I'm a little turned off by the restaurants that add the line with how much to tip on them. First, prices at the restaurant are up which leads to bigger tips to begin with. And now it seems like the amounts they are give are for 20%, 22%, and 25%. Um, no.
  3. You are being extremely lackadaisical about what is possibly a serious legal issue. The best case scenario if the cruise line finds it and confiscates it. The worst case scenario is for another country to board the ship with a dog or for it be caught in customs re-entering the US.
  4. I think mentioning the Chinese citizen fact has confused the issue on what you are asking. You already feel knowledgeable and comfortable with the Chinese citizen part. Your questions is just if three people under the age of 21 can share a cabin that connects to yours.
  5. I think the true average cruiser doesn't tip above the auto gratuities. There are many cruisers on here that will boast about how much they tip. As long as you pay the auto gratuities you are meeting the average and adequate tipping level. Going above and beyond is personal preference.
  6. This is a really bad idea. Sneaking on alcohol violates Carnival's rules and will most likely be confiscated. Sneaking on gummies violates maritime and customs laws and can lead to arrest, fines, and being banned.
  7. Then perhaps, they should ban bringing vapes onboard. That wouldn't bother me one bit.
  8. I don't think that they are bound to assign a cabin number until check in. I haven't heard any reports of people being bumped. They may have reached capacity including the guarantees but are holding off assignments in case people want to upgrade cabins.
  9. It's not illegal to bring vape pens into Mexico. 2023 Mexico Vape Travel: Rules, Regulations, Tips & More! - Mexico Travel Concierge
  10. This is where we are. I feel like people are forgetting that their cabin stewards are already being tipped. A little extra might be a nice gesture if they provide exceptional service, but I don't see any need to tip as a habit. This is my concern with the "auto tips". People used to get envelopes and hand out cash. Then they switched to auto tips for your convenience. Now people (Americans) feel awkward not tipping cash so they tip twice.
  11. It's understandable to be disappointed by having 2 extra sea days. But, sailing by Kauai is actually a thing to do, similar to sailing by the glaciers in Alaska. That side of the island is only visible by ship and this is an activity we paid extra to do while we were visiting. I wouldn't necessarily consider that a wasted day.
  12. If you choose to do this; just drop off your luggage and go to the museum. You can check in when you return to the ship.
  13. This is terrible. Your cabin can't be the only near the theater who can hear theater noise. It's hard to believe that NCL thought that rehearsals at 1am were a reasonable thing to do. There are many hours during the day when the theater is free. Surely there is a way to rehearse song and dance without having the full sound system on. Play the music from a normal speaker and have the singer sing without microphones. Would create very little external noise.
  14. Certainly the safest way to book this cruise would be to put you and wife each in one cabin and then split the kids up any way. You can exchange all the room keys on board and people can sleep in the same arrangement you have today.
  15. While a good will gesture might have been nice; I think that the OP is overstating that something was "promised". There was no official offer made. You can hardly blame the ship staff who were over run with unhappy cruisers to put them off with vague hints and put the responsibility on corporate. It's entirely possible that corporate was unaware that this "offer" was made. In comparison to how some other cruise lines have handled this situation, them offering 100% FCC for all of the future cruisers is an incredibly generous offer. I wouldn't hesitate to book Celebrity in the future. In comparison, Oceania did officially extend an offer of 100% FCC to future cruisers and then 2 days later revoked the offer and are offering absolutely no compensation or options to change cruises.
  16. We did a one way cruise on Celebrity from Hawaii to Vancouver. The one way cruise are repositioning - so go from Hawaii to Vancouver in the spring and Vancouver to Hawaii in the fall. Positives: We had 5 sea days in a row and that was enough. I can't imagine doing a round trip from California where you have two sets of those in one cruise. There were different activities than normal on the long sea day stretch. A handful went multiple days (so like a hula class that learned a dance over the course of a week) We got to spend alot more time in Hawaii than we would have with a round trip cruise Negatives: Due to the limited season availability and crossing an ocean - it was pretty cold once we left Hawaii. Think the first couple days were nice outside, but it quickly was too cold and windy to go outside. You def want to book this well in advance. We tried to go one year and the cruise with the best itinerary was already sold out of balcony cabins. We ended up booking the cruise we took about a year and a half out.
  17. There are many threads on this topic already. With the same sort of responses that you received on facebook.
  18. This practice is so ingrained in marketing in the US; while people might grumble about it, we are used to it. There are entire stores built around selling items for 50-75% off "retail" value. Which just means their tag lists "retail value $100, our price $50". The retail value is made up. We also are used to tax being on at the end of the purchase, tipping heavily, and having assorted fees stacked at the end of a transaction. Hotel price comparisons can be as complicated as cruise comparison when you account for the resort fee and other taxes/fees not given to you until you attempt to complete your transaction.
  19. You can have any bartender make any drink that they have the ingredients for. This thread suggests what the recipe is: l would think that most bars could make it with peach schnapps
  20. The problem is that they don't even need to take it off. when they pull into port, they are in that country. Drugs on the ship have now been brought into the country. I've heard of situations where a ship will be in port and have drug dogs come on board to search for drugs in the rooms. Carnival can't let you on with any illegal substances because they are then facilitating you importing drugs into a foreign country. While we make a distinction between CBD and THC in the US, I'm not sure that other countries make that distinction.
  21. yep, this is Fyre festival at sea. and if you watch the documentary on Netflix, there were plenty of red flags leading up to the trip to cause a reasonable person to have doubts. And still thousands of people flew down to the Bahamas with no festival to go to and nowhere to stay. Somehow common sense goes out the window when someone wants badly enough for it to be true.
  22. Cruise cash is nonrefundable so it isn't a great idea to buy much, if any. Some people use it to receive on board spending money as a gift; or for budgeting. They would rather pay $50 per month leading up to the cruise than $500 at the end.
  23. There are a lot of jobs where the pay fluctuates; sometimes based on factors outside of the workers control. As stated, a lot of position in the US derive their primary income from tips so if the business isn't busy, they make less. When I waitressed they tried to even that out with the assignment of shifts. Typically week day lunches made alot less than weekend evenings - so you would have to work week day time lunches to be scheduled for a weekend evening shift. Otherwise, no one would work lunch. Also a lot of sales jobs are commission based - theoretically it puts the burned on the employee to "earn their keep". But if business is just slow, there's not a lot they can do. I know a lot of car sales employees struggled when there were massive inventory shortages. There were fewer cars to sell so impossible to make the same amount of money.
  24. I would look at the protections from a credit card and travel insurance completely differently. Travel insurance exists to reimburse you if you are unable to travel for some reason or if there is an unexpected last minute cancellation. It typically does not cover the business you are operating with going out of business or for some other reason that they failed to provide the service you bought. Credit cards include the ability to dispute a payment if the business does not offer the product that you purchased and protection against the business going bankrupt. I've paid for trips through ACH transfer to get a cash discount before. That was pre-covid and I was working with a small local travel company. Post covid I would really hesitate to pay through ACH transfer.
  25. the media creates an environment of fear. Continuing their narrative by stating there was a terrorist attack at a tourist attraction is part of the problem.
