  1. We have cruised well over 20 times since 2001 but never on NCL. We booked a 14 day Caribbean cruise on BREAKAWAY and got a 4 specialty dinner package along with a beverage package.

Breakfasts and lunches will be no real problem at all, since we are fairly easy going when it comes to meals and have always been more than satisfied with buffets on lines like Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Holland America.

    For the NCL experienced cruisers;

How would you handle dining (remember we have a 4 night package) over the 2 weeks?

We have no experience with any of the NCL dining venues and would like to play it by ear. As far as dining times any from 5:30-7:00 would be fine with us and a short wait is never a problem...

    Thanks ahead for any responses.

    bosco

when are you going for your cruise?

  2. Your question has been answered above really.

There are about 14 different MDR menus so there shouldn't be any repeats.

You are likely to get some alternative entertainment during a 14 day cruise. Things that they don't usually put on. Occasionally they may bring on some other entertainment specially for the longer cruises, and sometimes the standard entertainment staff may do different things.

    Thank you

  3. We did the 14 day Breakaway January 3 - 17, 2016 and the 13 day Breakaway January 2- 15, 2017. They did not just repeat the entertainment and menus. The switched up a bit. There were some performances that did repeat a few times throughout, but there were also a few One Night Only performances.

We love that itinerary. We would do it again but we are sailing a few weeks earlier for our anniversary instead. I have the dailies in my reviews below my signature and the 13 day review has a separate schedule of nighttime entertainment.

Thank you lots of reading up ahead

  4. For any of you who have done 14 day cruises before..was wondering how they handle entertainment options and also MDR menus. Does the planned entertainment and menus simply repeat from the first week to the second? Or is there anything additional / different in the second week?

We are planning to go on the Breakaway January 5th to 19 2018

  5. PLEASE SOMEONE, tell me what "the pole" is. The only thing I can figure out is that it's a pole in the front of the whirl pool tub? What would be the purpose of that? Does anyone have a photo?? I just booked 14134 on the Breakaway and it seems by the above list, that IF the Breakaway is the mirror image of the Getaway, that my cabin will have NO POLE. Should I change my room? This seems like a big deal for some reason and I'm baffled. Someone please educate me. :o

what you don't know about " the pole" it does come with a dancer

  6. Hello all, so my hubby and I have booked a cruise on the Getaway! My first cruise and his 4th. I am beyond excited to go. That being said I was just diagnosed as being allergic to eggs and Gluten. So I am just wondering what food options there will be/wondering how difficult it will be to accommodate my new found allergies, as well as what steps I need to take prior to cruising.

It's best that you call the access desk and report your condition . I am allergic to grapefruit and i'm on a salt free diet

    https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/about/accessible-cruising

    The Access Desk

Within our Reservations Department, an exclusive team of seasoned professionals operate to help facilitate your travel via our dedicated toll free number for accessible travel (1-866-234-7350 (voice)). Specially trained in Norwegian Cruise Line's policies and procedures, after receiving your Special Accommodation Requirements Information form, they document your reservation with information concerning your service requests to help prepare our cruise staff for your vacation. A member of the Access Desk will speak with you about each and every aspect of your cruise from transportation to and from the vessel to shore excursions, your stateroom and any other expectation or need that you may have.

    Onboard

Once you have boarded, you will be met by staff who will have all of the information that you conveyed to Norwegian Cruise Line either directly or through your travel professional. Staff will be available throughout your cruise to see to your needs. Norwegian Cruise Line has Access Officers who will be the primary go to person for all of your needs. Norwegian Cruise Line also has a centralized internal corporate resolution staff to assist the Access Officer, available by telephone 24 hours a day.

Special Medical Dietary Requirements and Diabetes

Guests with food allergies should contact the Access Desk to discuss Norwegian Cruise Line's policies and procedures concerning special diets and your specific allergies prior to your cruise. Because the vessels are supplied all over the world, it may be easier to meet your specific food allergy requirements in some countries, but very difficult in others. We can arrange to have no sugar and low sodium meals for guests with those specific medical dietary restrictions upon request. Refrigerators are available in many staterooms for storing insulin

  7. I deed to you now, and in perpetuity, any rights or claims to which I may be entitled from Norwegian, or any other cruise line or dining establishment, land or sea based to that stodgy, glue-y, mushy (yet sometimes also weirdly kinda dry) despicable concoction that attempts to pass itself off as a dessert, especially when it has raisins in it. Gah!

But keep ya hands off my cheesecake ;)

What replace cheescake with bread pudding

    Really get serious

  8. May I ask where you found that statement about the laundry? I would like to screen capture it from their website in case there is an issue.

BTW that is great news for us as we have a 21 day next year and figure to have to have laundry done a couple times at least.

  9. We always bring a case of bottled water with us. It has never been a problem. Ask them to empty the mini fridge and you can fill it up.

Can I bring water or pop on board?

Effectivefor sailings July 15, 2016 and beyond, guests are prohibited from bringing anybeverages -- including liquor, beer and non-alcoholic drinks such as water, popand juices -- on board either as carry-on or checked luggage, with theexception of purified or distilled water in factory-sealed containers for usein conjunction with medical devices or for the reconstitution of infantformula; and fully sealed and/or corked wine bottles for personal consumptiononboard that is subject to screening and a corkage fee (for guests 21 years ofage or older). Open beverages of any kind must be consumed or discarded at thesecurity check-point, on embarkation day and at any port of call. This revisedpolicy brings the company in line with other best practice travel securityprotocols and reduces the need for individual time consuming screening andpackage inspection of large volumes of beverages.

    Why the change in policy?

The inspection of large volumes of beverages has an impact on the embarkationprocess and security resources. As one example, guests who attempt to smugglealcoholic beverages onboard often try to do so in beverage containers. Thismeans all beverages must be personally screened, taking both time and dedicatedpersonnel.

This modified policy will now bring us in line with other travel industryprocedures for transporting beverages and allow security personnel to focus onother screening efforts and not individually inspecting all beverages beingbrought onboard.

What if I purchase a beverage in a portof call?

Guests will not be permitted to bring any beverages onboard the ship in portsof call and any locally-purchased beverages will be disposed of prior toembarkation. No open containers of beverages, including water, will be allowedonboard during a port of call.

If you purchase any alcohol at one of our ports-of-call or in our onboardshops, we will safely store your purchase and either on the final night of thecruise or the morning of debarkation it will be available for pick up in adesignated area.

What happens if I bring a case of waterto the ship?

Guests who bring beverages to embarkation will be directed to return the itemsto their vehicle. If the guest does not have a vehicle onsite, the items willbe disposed of.

If I need to bring water or milkonboard for a medical reason or infant, what’s the process?

Guests who have special needs, medical requirements, or families with infantswho require water for formula or milk, should contact the access desk at accessdesk@ncl.comto verify if an exception can be made for their beverage and to obtainpre-approval to provide to security at embarkation.

  10. We are looking at booking a cruise for this summer. We are trying to watch our budget this year and have narrowed it down to 3, 2 Carnival cruises and 1 NCL. We sailed on the NCL Getaway last summer, which was our first with Norwegian and we loved it!

NCL Breakaway out of New York with three days in Bermuda. I would love to go to Bermuda, but this is the most expensive at $3234. However, we have a $250 future cruise credit, so it would only be $2984 and has a $60 onboard credit. Still quite a bit more, but does include free drinks and 3 free specialty restaurants. We love their freestyle cruising, the ship we were on last summer was beautiful and service was fantastic! We aren't big drinkers though, so we aren't sure if we want to spend the extra money and I'm losing my balcony, as they were too expensive so this is an oceanview.

Carnival Dream out of New Orleans (Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel). I would love to visit LFK this time, as I found out about it after I booked something else last time. Last summer when we were in Belize we decided to stay on the ship, something we had never done before, so this time I would get off and we love Cozumel...I'm a beach girl! Cove balcony for $1956 and a $50 credit. I've never had a Cove balcony so I'm not sure if I would like it or not, but certainly willing to try it. Best bargain! I thought I recalled reading this ship was crowded though and we don't like crowded. We prefer spending our time in quiet, adult only areas.

Carnival Glory out of Miami (Same itinerary except we also go to Grand Cayman) Lido balcony, which I have always wanted to try. $2274 At this point it almost seems silly not to pay the extra for the Breakaway since we get the 2 freebies...apx $700 difference for 3 free specialty restaurants and free drinks for 2 people, although I don't think we would spend that much on food and drink on this cruise.

Have you consider the Dawn out of Boston same itineary to bermuda but friday to friday

  11. We are driving to NYC and leaving on the Jade in October. We will disembark in Miami and fly back to NYC. We want to drive down the night before. We usually park at the pier but I'm not sure that is going to work this time. I am trying to find a park and fly hotel where we could leave the car but have no idea which one would work best.

Does anyone have experience doing this? It doesn't seem particularly unusual but it is different for us and I haven't been able to figure out what to do.

    try

  12. What does the spa pass include? What can you get with it?

The Thermal Suite is a passage toward ultimate relaxation. Based on the concept of Turkish baths, where friends and family spent the day relaxing, the heat and cleansing therapies of our Thermal Suite experience include heated ceramic lounge chairs, a Thalasso Therapy Pool, hot tubs, steam room, sauna, and tropical rain showers. Different herbal steam and sauna grottos cleanse the body with gentle heat while a therapeutic heated-water pool bubbling effect will wash away stiff and sore joints. Take a dip in the Vitality Pool or enjoy a warm waterfall cascading onto your shoulders. Heated chaise lounges and tropical shower features make this both a relaxing and cleansing experience. A Salt Room is available on Breakaway, Getaway and Escape.

Thermal Suites are available on all ships except the Sky, Spirit, Sun, and Pride of America.

Thermal Suite amenities and pricing may vary by ship. Log in to see pricing and book your Thermal Suite pass.

Note: Must be 18 years or older. Passes only available to select ships and are full cruise only. See Spa Terms & Conditions.

Also, how would I book it? My cruise is 104 days out and I can't find the option on their site.

    90 days from sailing https://www.ncl.com/ca/en/onboard-gifts/spa-gift-certificates

  13. Hi everyone :)

We did the Breakaway last March and are planning on booking again for next March. I was just surfing around online and it looks like a few things have changed on the ship so I figured I'd ask on here.

    1. Are you still able to pre book the spa package for the week of your sailing? That was our absolute favourite part of our last cruise...we went twice a day. I want to make sure that we can still do this! And, does anyone know if the price is the same? I think we paid $199 USD for the week per person.

Have you considered The Haven Spa Suite, Spa Mini-Suite and Spa Balcony

    2. Has Margaritaville opened on the boat? It's not showing on the NCL site but I've heard that it's there now. I know the food is a la carte, but can we drink there as part of our UBP?

Yes and Yes It's part of the UDP

I think that's it for now...thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answers :)

    Have fun

  14. Google "Norwegian Escape Menus" and select beyond ships 2.

Menus are [more or less] standard across the fleet. I qualify that because some of the older small ships are converting when they go through their Norwegian Edge dry docks.

The last major upgrades to the menus were in October 2015 with the launch of the Escape. There was a small update in August 2016 when lobsters were removed from the specialty menus.

    Try this

    http://www.beyondships2.com/norwegian-breakaway-menus.html

  15. What about a cup of regular coffee with dessert? Is coffee an extra charge?

    MARAPRINCE

I believe there is no charge for regular coffee but there is a charge for speciality coffee

What does my cruise fare include?

Iced Tea, some juices in the buffet (for breakfast), regular coffee, tea and ice water

Coffee Bar (regular coffee and pastries included, specialty coffees at nominal extra charge)

  16. You get one starter, one entree (up to $20) and a dessert.

It isn't clear what happens if you order an entree over $20, but I think it's a reasonable assumption that they will charge the difference.

Sides are much less clear. The website says they are chargeable. An onboard report said that they were given one side each, whilst someone else was told over the phone (usually the least reliable source) that it is two sides each.

    from NCL website

Benefit entitles each guest to one appetizer, one entrée and one dessert of your choice. Entrée items up to $20 are covered. For items over this amount, an upcharge will be added to your onboard account. Entrée item Côte De Boeuf Pour Deux in Le Bistro, is a shared dish and will be treated as two entrées.
