I'm not sure if this applies to Australia only, but today I received emails from Oceania saying that the Cruise Vacation Guides will no longer be sent out due to a trebling in shipping costs. I have kept every blue book from every Oceania cruise and look back on them with pleasure. This (in my mind) is a cheap and tacky action by Oceania. Here is the body of the email: I have emailed my Oceania contact to express my extreme disappointment with this decision and I urge any CCers to do likewise.

Jan, there is a bit of a discussion happening on the Founders Cruise Roll Call about accomodation pre- cruise. We are staying at Santa Marinella at the Hotel Villa Delle Palme which looks lovely - about 10 miles south of Civitavecchia. The village is right on the waterfront. The hotel has arranged a transfer from FCO for €150.

ToxM, we are much the same in Australia with a lack of discounts and no rebates. Three experiences over the past few years: $100 OBC offered once - didn't eventuate. With all the muddle at the start of Covid my TA was too busy to look for a refund so gave me permission to sort myself so at least I got the refund reasonably promptly and most recently used another TA who offered a discount and who completely mucked up a cancellation So I have an Oceania Rep who acts as as an excellent agent and I ring/email her directly. She will stay up till midnight Australian time when new cruises are released to get our preferred cabins. She knows or gets the answers to any queries and advises us well. For example we were talking about how/when to book our free platinum cruise which will come up in a couple of years - she gave lots of sage advice about the type of cruise to take. And if I want she will graciously transfer the whole booking to a TA if I wish within that first 30 day period. It gives me more control working directly with her, and there doesn't seem to be much benefit to us in using a TA (I am sorry not to support our local businesses though)

Proper tea tastes better too 🙂

Medeba - we are on a cruise next year from Venice/now Trieste. The Venice option looked a little difficult so we are flying directly into Ljubiano (from Australia via Helsinki). LJU has a lot of direct international flight options. It looks a lovely city to have few relaxing days after a long flight before the cruise - and takes any stress out the transfers. Hilary

Absolutely Rosroz! I have asked at O's afternoon teas when the teapots come around for the pot to have two tea bags then boiling water direct from the urn. Milk goes in the cup first Then the only problem is the cups - those afternoon tea cups are wide and shallow so the tea cools really quickly. Any room service I always ask for mugs as they keep drinks hotter But at the moment I'm feeling so cruise deprived I'd love 💌 an Oceania tea made with warm water & milk second and drunk from a wide and shallow cup!
