  1. Just wanted to note some quick impressions of our trip while they are fresh in my mind.

Embarkation was a breeze...arrived at the port about 11:30 am was sitting in Taste by 12:20, drink in hand. That probably was the last easy thing about the ship.

The Getaway is not the ship to have in the Baltics! I cannot stress how overcrowded every single venue was. The buffet in the morning for a quick breakfast before our early tours was a nightmare. No tables to be found, eat outdoors? Oh sure, it was about 55 degrees, dh caught a terrible cold and I'm sure that had something to do with it. All of the other restaurants were terribly crowded, poor staff running around, apologizing for slow service. I heard a lot of people on tours complain that they went to o Sheehans prior to a tour, their food took so long they had to leave and not eat.

This morning, breakfast before we left, no seats, no cups, no plates!

Too many people, not enough indoor space to be had.

Events in the atrium ...couldnt see, couldn't hear, crazy busy all the time.

Huge lines for guest services all day, every day.

Crew members still smiling, don't know how they have the patience. Saw woman from another country browbeat a sweet girl in the buffet who couldnt understand what she was saying..which brings me to...

Pushiest, rudest guests I have ever seen on a cruise! They would step right in front of you if you allowed it. Happened to me once or twice, then my attitude changed to step in front of me in a line, no I don't think so!

I got so fed up with people walking into me that I was about to lose my mind!

Our tours were great, tj travel did a wonderful job! Talinn, Estonia is beautiful, Berlin was absolutely worth the trip.

After Berlin, the port we were most looking forward to was Stockholm..well, we never got there, the weather was bad, and the Swedish port officials refused us a pilot and so we couldn't dock. Very disappointing.

So, a fun sea day...not so much.

Too cold to go out on the top decks. Not much going on inside. Movie in the atrium? Well, no chairs available, so go to room and watch a movie on tv.

Disembarked today, no cabs because of

some sort of holiday..took a shuttle to the airport, then had to get a cab to our hotel for one night.

Sorry this is so disjointed, typing on my phone...

This was our least favorite ncl cruise, I looked forward to going for almost a year, we spent a lot of money, and I felt that we didn't get our usual great vacation. It's making me sad to be going home tomorrow, but I wasn't sad like I always am to leave a ship. Definitely, wouldn't go on the Getaway again, un less it was a warm destination.

  2. We are going the week before you I have been watching the weather in all the ports and am definitely seeing a trend downward in temperature. Looks like mid to low 60's in the daytime down into the 50's when the sun goes down. The port that looks the warmest is Germany. So I think if shorts are worn that may be the day to do so. Mostly thinking capris and short sleeves, taking a sweatshirt or sweater to layer over. Jeans for the cooler days as well. Seems like a lot of rain in the Baltics, so will also take light rain jacket with hood. I'll keep watching the weather reports[emoji4]

  3. I'm sad for you that the leader board isn't being updated. That was always part of the fun of the DH competing. Hilarious evening when he and the guy in second place were trying to match each other beer for beer. I had to then pour him into bed later[emoji4][emoji481]

  4. We do both, in the past year we did 9 days in Jamaica at an ai, 5 days in Puerto Rico, had a cruise in February and two more this year. We like cruising better I think, don't have to worry about transportation to get to other places, don't have to worry where you will eat dinner that night, etc. once you add in the rental car, the expensive food and drinks, the sightseeing costs, cruising is much more affordable but we always go a few days early so we get our land vacation too!

  5. Do you remember what the leader's score was?

Thinking of cruising the Escape. Need to prepare my liver for the competition.

DH thinks that the winner on our cruise had 63.. he was a young guy and was traveling with his family, his mom said he fell asleep one night in his dinner after being in the brewhouse for perhaps a little too long[emoji57]

  6. Nice! Did he just print up a beer list before leaving home? Or write one out longhand the first day? Or does the District provide paper copies of the menu for that purpose?

We will be on the Escape in December and I'm working on how to integrate the District leaderboard into our roll call activities. We're already doing a combination pub crawl/cabin crawl, but I'd also like to do some type of multi-day activity, where we meet at the district at a certain time each day and work on our "personal best" even if we don't make the official leaderboard, LOL!

They had the paper copies there..if you have someone in the group that likes IPA's I think that's the trick to being able to drink some of the more hoppy beers. I like Belgian beers and there was a really nice selection, I wish there was a brewhouse on all the ships! Have fun!

  7. When we were onboard it was the total number of different beers for the week. The contestants signed up one the first day in the brewhouse and then the bartenders kept track of the different beers, although my DH had a sheet that he crossed off beers during the week, just to remind him of what he already had! He did come in 3rd place with 43 different beers behind two much younger guys, so he jokes that he won the senior division!

  8. Thank you for your review, I was excited to see that you stayed at the hotel nebo since that is where we are staying next month for our cruise. Did you find the area sketchy at all? I know it borders an area described as containing strip clubs, etc. did you ever feel your room was too warm? What about noise at night with opened windows? How much was the breakfast there opposed to the coffee shop across the street? Thank you in advance!
