  1. Has anyone had any luck using vrbo to book a room before or after a cruise? There are lots available. Several caught my eye in Isle Verde. We will be flying in on a Saturday and cruising from the Pan Am dock.

Does anyone have a particular area they like? We were thinking of a place near the beach... but it isn't that necessary since we are getting in at 5:30 pm and plan to leave for the cruise ship around 11 am.

I have used VRBO in Hawaii and in Puerto Rico with no problem. Just be sure and read the reviews. A lot of the rentals have a 2-3 day minimum or even longer so be sure you check for that. I haven't stayed in Isle Verde so can't help you there.

  2. We are on the Thomson dream cruise and sailing around the Caribbean for 14 night on 22nd December. We would like any tips as we have never been on a cruise before. Also, if you have been to any of these ports then please give me information on what to do there:

Montego Bay, Cozumel, George Town, playa Del Carmen, Costa maya.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Check out the ports of call forum for your ports. Lots of information there. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5

  3. No need to take a tour in OSJ. It is easy to navigate on your own and spend as much time as you want. My DD and I spent a day in January, started at El Morro, walked to the San Juan Gate, part of the Paseo de la Princessa, back through OSJ stopping at shops and ended up at Castillo San Cristobal. We picked up a free map from a vendor but I think you can print one also.

  4. I personally think this is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Why would you expect people to give up an entire week of work (or longer), thousands of dollars that they may or may not be able to afford to go on a vacation that they didn't choose? Why has this society become so much about the "wedding" and not the "marriage"? I wouldn't spend my vacation time from work and my hard earned money for something so frivolous regardless of who it was. If it was my daughter, I would tell her how ridiculous and self centered this whole plan is. Plan an affordable, simple wedding in a location that is easy for your most important guests and then go on the cruise for your honeymoon.

  5. If you tell the taxi driver you want to see the turtles he will hook you up with a local boat. We went out on the Nemo to snorkel over a sunken "ship wreck" and then to swim with the turtles. There was maybe 12-15 of us and we were there before any of the big excursions. It was over a year ago but I want to say they charged $25 each to go out on the boat.

  6. Hi JCool...we are thinking of also renting a car to go away from San Juan. We are going to be there 2 nights before the cruise. Do you think it is worth taking a day trip or just staying in the area? Thank you.

Definitely do a day trip. There is so much to see in Puerto Rico once you get out of San Juan. We liked it so much when we flew down for our cruise that my daughter and I went back and stayed for a week in January.
