  1. 1. Where should we stay for the 2-3 days prior to cruise? Airbnb? What areas? Depends what you want to do. My DD and I spent a week in PR in January. We spent the first half in Humacao where we explored the nature reserve, took a snorkeling expedition with east island excursions out of fajardo, went to El Yunque, Luquillo beach and kioskos and also 7 seas beach. We then packed up and stayed in Isabella on the West side for the last half of our trip. We went to the Rincon lighthouse, Crash Boat beach and Jobos beach. We had a great vacation rental there.

    2. What else is there to explore in San Juan?

    3. What are the best beaches there? We really enjoyed 7 seas beach, Crash Boat Beach and Jobos beach.

    4. Would we need to rent a car or would public transport (buses) and walking be enough? You will need a car if you want to get out of San Juan.

  2. Thank you, I'll check it out.

We love Ellis. We have used him twice and he hasn't failed to give us a great tour. The first year we had never been to PR and wanted to see the rainforest. He picked us up at our hotel, took us to La Coca Falls and the observation tower but then we went down a side road where he parked the car, gave us towels, bread, and directions for a short hike. We hiked to a swimming hole where the fish ate right out of our hands. I don't' think he offers this particular tour any longer due to safety concerns but he knows a lot of off the beaten path places and I am sure you would have a great time.

  3. I have used vrbo.com several times however most places have a minimum stay of 2-3 nights. You would just need to browse the rentals and see which ones would offer a 1 night stay.

  4. I have used Ellis twice and I can't say enough good things about him. Last year it was DH, DD, and I for a day precruise. He took us to the rainforest, showed us the "normal" places where everybody goes and then took us down a side road. He gave us towels and some day old bread, gave us directions where we took a short hike and then we swam with and fed the fish in the rainforest. Afterwards, we went to the Kioskos for lunch and he explained what all the different Puerto Rican foods were. He delivered us back to the cruise ship.

In January my daughter and I spent a week in PR and we booked Ellis for his Mango Daiquiri tour. We had a great time and he personalized the tour for us. He will go out of his way to give you the experience you want.
