A drowning can happen in the blink of an eye...and it's NOT what folks think it is...no screaming and thrashing about....it's very silent and calm. I wonder where the parents were...not to notice?
my thoughts also.

Love my Keens. I have a pair of whispers that I have worn for 5 years and still look good. They have been all over the caribbean on our cruise and all over Puerto Rico in January.

This is a great article
http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/old-san-juan-walking-tour-1/
this one shows the trolley stops and some of the points of interest

You can also pick up a free map in OSJ, that is what we did. There is a square, on the square is a frozen drink cart and they had free maps. OSJ really isn't very big. We walked quite a bit of it.

Does he provide transportation as well? Possible costs and tours he offers?
Thanks!
Yes, he will pick you up at the ship and take you back to OSJ if you want to explore, or you could go to El Yunque and then go to Luqillo to the beach and to the kioskos for food and he can take you back to the ship. He personalizes his tour to what you want. I don't have pricing information and it depends on what you want to do. Shoot him an email, he is quick to answer. His email is fleisherellis@aol.com or you can find him on craigslist

I would check the ports of call forum for the ports you are interested in.
-
You could go to El Yunque for the afternoon and then go back and walk around OSJ in the evening. The forts will be closed at 6 but there are lots of restaurants and other things to see. You can walk down the Paseo through the San Juan gate, feed the pigeons at Parque de las Palomas.
If you need a tour guide to El Yunque, contact Ellis. We have used him twice and have booked him for next year when we go back.

There is an entire port of call forum devoted to Bermuda

Just use the water out of the toilet, surely it's safe :)

The service is free (there is a tip jar) from 9-5http://www.barrachina.com/

How long did the rite take? We are only in port a half day line 7:30-2:30pm.
The best thing to do is to send him an email and tell him your time frame. He can customize your tour and have you back to the ship in plenty of time.

Our biggest expense off the ship tends to be taxi fares. You can plan on roughly $8-10 per person each time you climb in a taxi on the islands.

If you are open to flying to San Juan look at the cruises that leave and return there. We love the port intensive itineraries that are offered out of San Juan.
-
If you tell the taxi driver that you want to go out to see the turtles, they will hook you up. We went to Payne's beach and went out with a group of about 10-12 for $25 each. We were the first ones out to swim with the turtles before the big groups arrived. We were back on the beach before noon. This would probably be an easier option than booking a ship's tour.

we are not allowed to discuss travel agents on cruise critic. It is against the rules.

You caught me....I knew there was but it tends to be lightly traveled, with most people asking where to get insurance for pre-existing conditions and responses to go to either of two companies that sell insurance. :)
I'll go real off topic here....
Some boards work very well....the cruise line boards, cruise air, European and Alaska port boards. But, personally I think when they broke down the Caribbean boards to separate islands it was a mistake. It makes finding information easier, but only a very few knowledgeable Caribbean cruisers (which there should be many on CC), bother to go on and click each island to help answer questions.
Ok - off my soap box.:)
I just thought you might get more/better answers there. ;) I like the islands being separated. It makes it easier for me.

okay I swore I would stay away from your threads But I have to comment on this. if you will notice, this section is for GENERAL CRUISING QUESTIONS
NOT PORT SPECIFIC ONES
NOT SHIP OR CRUISE LINE SPECIFIC ONES
you have been a member, posting or not, LONG ENOUGH to have LEARNED YOUR WAY AROUND these boards and to figure out WHAT BELONGS WHERE.
when someone POLITELY tells you where to go to get the very best information you THANK THEM AND GO TO THAT SECTION. you DO NOT cop an attitude about it.
if you are so computer unsavvy that you cannot find the main forums index and take the time to read every forum description, that is not our fault. however if after trying you still are unable then YOU ASK POLITELY HOW TO GET THERE.
many people are more than willing do all the hard work for you and give you a direct link.
you are shooting yourself in the foot by being snarky every time someone tells you something you do not wish to hear. there are plenty of people who stick to one or two areas, and never venture out of them.. which means you are losing out on potential sources of information.
Amen and well said

My DD and I spent a week in PR in January. We rented a car from Charlie and she drove us all over the island. We didn't have any problems. The drive from San Juan to the rain forest is about an hour. The roads once you get in the rain forest are fairly narrow and curvy so just be aware of blind corners. My best advice to just to be extra aware of the cars around you. We did notice that it doesnt matter which lane people are in, if they want to turn, they will. We saw cars in the far right lane turn left and cars in the far left lane that turned right. We were told that they will pass you on the right on the shoulder but didn't see that happen.

There is an entire forum dedicated to travel insurance

Why not post in the port of call forum for St Martin

If you do a tour with a guide, you will save the time needed to pick up and return your rental car. That would give you more free time. I know when we returned our rental car in January it took close to an hour as there were others in front of us.

We liked the beach at Luquillo but our favorite was 7 Seas beach in Fajardo.

It is difficult to find any vacation rental that doesn't require a minimum of a 2-3 night stay. A lot of them require longer stays.
