Also, Melania got uptight when I told her this was going to be in our backyard so she suggested (demanded) that it be moved to a bar/tavern...Considering the world famous Helvetia Tavern.  Home of the Jumbo Cheeseburger and featuring one pool table and wooden booths and Shiner Bock on tap!

Hey, I know that place. Better not advertise the date of the party or I may need to crash it. That is IF I can ever get out of Alaska... 😉

@mopedmom1 I'm glad to hear you're doing better.  How can it be that so much time has passed?

    How is your dad?

In one respect four years has flown by, but at the same time it has drug along. Quite the paradox!!

My dad's recovery is slow-going, but atleast he is home. Thanks for asking ❤

I know I've  been quiet lately, I'm sort of having a hard time since I turned th calendar to March.  We're coming on the anniversary of my husband's passing.

I come here because you guys cheer me up.  In the respect that everyone  has their own demons.

Thank you guys for being my rock!!

    Love you all!!

    Hugs to you ❤❤❤

It will be four years (!!!) in April since Ralph passed away. I still struggle a bit, but it has gotten easier to go through with each passing anniversary.

And yes, this little slice of the internet is what totally carried me through, as the entire world had just shut down when he passed.

    @mopedmom1 how’s your dad?

Thank you for asking. He was finally released last Tuesday to come home. He is alive but still has a long battle back. He can't walk more than 40' without getting winded, lightheaded and needing to sit. He was in hospitals or rehab from November 16 to February 7, so just learning how to live in the real world is quite the chore for him.

After many years being Tribe member, I’ve decided to step out and unfollow. To the tried and true members from way back when, thank you for being part of my life. We’ve shared our lives, ups and downs and made it through the pandemic. I’ve appreciate being able to share my photos and adventures. I will truly miss you.

Recent comments have made me feel attacked and ridiculed. I don’t need that in my life. Remember when snarky comments are made, you don’t know how it will effect someone.

I’m terribly sad that this is the end of my Tribe membership.

    Stay safe, stay well💕

Thank you for all your beautiful pictures through the years. It was something I looked forward to every day, recovering from my "Ralph Era". I hope you reconsider and come back to The Tribe.

We are still in Anchorage, at Providence Hospital. I anticipate him being released to St. Elias Rehab facility here in town sometime this week for an intensive stint in physical therapy. My guess is we will be here another 10-14 days.

  7. Merry Christmas Tribe, from Anchorage, Alaska. We are on day 40 of my father's hospitalization, having spent 24 days at the Central Peninsula Hospital with Infective Endocarditis, before being flown to Anchorage for open heart surgery two weeks ago. He is continuing to battle some unknown additional infection, possibly pneumonia, or ??? We are awaiting results of yet again another blood draw. He has ZERO immunity and will probably need to undergo a bone marrow biopsy in the next day or two. Hopefully something will be revealed soon.

In the "I Can't Make This $%&@ Up", my mother and I were woken around 3am in the on-hospital grounds "hotel", to a woman in the next room over having the everloving crap being beat out of her by her boyfriend. Peeking through the peephole, I saw her escape her room into the hallway outside my door. Not being able to see where her assailant was, and with my 81 year old mother in the room, I felt I couldn't drag her into my room, but had to just wait for the police to show up. He was shackled and taken away in the back seat of a cruiser. She was carried out on a gurney, covered in blood. She must not have suffered too many injuries; the front office said they moved her to another room and the bf has been banned.

Definitely a Christmas to remember 😥

(Sidebar note: you know how seemingly everyone on the show can't drive a car with a manual transmission.  Me?  I'd relish the opportunity to drive a 5-speed stick again. I haven't had a car with a manual transmission forever.  My first car was a stick, a Honda CRX 5-speed rocket that was snowmobile in the snow...and still got over 30mpg! Loved that car).

I LOVED my 1990 Honda CRX 5-speed. Such a fun little pocket rocket racer. Then I got pregnant and there was no where to put a car seat 😕

    @TxTeach79

Thank you. Unfortunately, he is VERY ill. After several hospitalizations he has FINALLY been diagnosed with Endocarditis. They believe he contracted the infection late August, when he had a stent put in. It has been slowly brewing since then and probably caused his stroke. He is on hard core antibiotics and the doctor warned us he may be in the hospital for six WEEKS.

My confidence level is very low for the capabilities of this podunk hospital in little town Alaska. He asked me to spend the night in his hospital room and I will be here with him EVERY night. My father is a strong, silent, stoic man and it breaks my heart that he wasn't able to get the care he deserves until I showed up on the scene and started asking questions and demanding answers.

On a positive note: after 24 hours of the antibiotics, tonight he told me he feels better than he has for weeks.

The day before Thanksgiving he turns 82. I pray we will be able to be grateful for another year spent with him.

My mom had crooked bottom teeth and was therefore apparently uber motivated to have her kids NOT have that so both my sister and I had braces, I barely needed them and neither did my sister--wore then for about a year or so and that's it. It's interesting to me though, realizing why she did that for us. She never said, but looking back I realize that is why. Because she had wished for herself. Like I say we did not need braces to the point where a dentist would suggest them. Mom has been gone for 30 years, and it's stuff like this that comes up and keeps the love and deep missing of her going. I lost her in my late 30s, which should mean I was an adult but really, I still had not grown up enough to really think about knowing her on these smaller/deeper levels. It took losing her to do that, I did talk to her about a lot of things throughout those 30-plus years, but it's the small things like this that I so wish I'd had her long enough to think to ask and know about her. Oh well.

If you have an especially close parent, don't wait to ask questions you might want to know the answers to later on. My advice of the day.

Thanks for this reminder.  I am currently on my way to Alaska to visit my father, who just had a stroke 😢 He is home after spending the weekend in the hospital, but my mother is not very good at conveying his actual status so I have no idea what to expect.  Guess I will find out tomorrow.

As many of you read yesterday our daughter had a baby on the 14th…what I didn’t realize was probably around the same time Tommy was born my brother-in-law passed away in his sleep. I guess that’s the cycle of life.

Anyways after getting over this shock my sister has had her husband cremated and would like to have his ashes dispersed at sea. I know I read someone’s post awhile back on this forum who did this. We are going to be on the Celebrity Summit with her in April 2024 and she’d like to do it then. Does anyone know if Celebrity allows this? TIA

My condolences on the loss of your brother-in-law.

@kpark895, @mopedmom1, and @Slainte57 - Just checking in.  Hope you are all doing well.

    👋👋👋

Whew, spent the last three days catching up...nearly four months worth and 200+ pages! I read EVERY post, only skimming over the sports conversations.

First, condolences @Von & John@Greenpea2, and @princess76021. My sincerest sympathies for your losses. I believe there was a pet owner recently as well but I forgot to note who. I apologize if I am missing anyone else.

It was nice to see @deedle910 do a drive-by. I am sorry about your heartbreak and hope things are getting better for you.

@sid_9169 sorry about the snafu on your last cruise. Hopefully you are all healed from your surgery.

I spent this summer laying in the sun, reading my Kindle while healing my broken foot. It seems to be doing pretty well now. I turned 60 😬 in September and unfortunately was unable to reach my goal of doing a 5k before that milestone. Maybe by next year!

    Also, hey @mopedmom1

    And hey @Von & John

    Hello?

    Here I am 👋

Been suffering a "sprained" ankle for a month now.  Due to a misunderstanding and some procrastination, my health insurance lapsed and I was unable to get my foot checked until July 1, when my new coverage kicked in. Went to Urgent Care and found out my foot is actually broken.

I can so relate to you @Greenpea2, doctor at UC asked what I had been doing for pain the last several weeks. Told her I was using 10+ year old percocet and aspirin to little success. Her reply was to alternate Tylenol and Advil. Gee, thanks.

Of course since it is the holiday weekend I haven't heard from the orthopedic surgeon yet. But hey, what's another week on a broken ankle? I got my Advil, Tylenol and a knee scooter from Amazon. I'm golden!

Beets taste like dirt. 🤮 Only the pickled ones are OK. We grew beets in the giant garden my family had when I was a kid, so I’ve eaten more than my share.

Ditto minus even the pickled ones. Cannot stand them in any form after being required to eat our fresh from the garden spoils as a child. NOPE.

  14. Merry Christmas Eve all. Weather across the country has affected many a plan it looks like.  Here as well. Christmas dinner will be spent with friends on Monday. The temperature is inching up and I am now at 32.8 and the freezing rain is just wet rain now. As of now, no power loss, knock wood!

Was suppose to fly home to the Pacific NW yesterday after my cruise on NCL’s Joy. Nope……..

I am stuck in LA until Monday. Had to call and text family to tell them not to come to my place for Christmas.

I get to spend Christmas in a hotel in LA by myself.

I'm so sorry Amy. Weather is starting to improve here. Feel better soon and safe journey home.

Hugs to you ❤ I struggled getting the generator started yesterday.  Finally had the neighbor come down and pull start it for me. I'm ready for the power outage now. The last time we had an ice storm I was without power for ten days. Really hoping that doesn't repeat itself!

Sid, this has been a lot of fun, really improved my last ten days!

I'm reminded of a classic movie, where a grey-haired woman who is dancing like someone much younger blurts out "Lovely Party!"

10 Sid points for the first responder with the movie.  Bonus 5 points for including a clip!

(Sid you can bill me for those points)

Rocky Horror Picture Show...I'll collect the points at sid's party.

Thanks for taking us along on your vacation @sid_9169. Good luck at work tomorrow.
