Dinner Attire

See another dress thread...

I will stoke the flame. While I appreciate those that dress the 9's on such a cruise. Myself -- I am on vacation!!! No suit and ties for me - I wear enough of them. If I wanted formal nights I would be cruising with Cunard (g-d forbid) or Seabourn.

Country club casual means -- dockers and a golf shirt.

On hot nights I will be up in the Terrace in shorts and a tee shirt in a well worn comfy pair of sneakers.

+1

As much as I hate to add to this old & tired topic, I have to agree with you.

In fact, it was the allure of country club casual dress code that first attracted us to Oceania years ago as I (we) were tired of formal nights on mass cruise lines.

The fact that Oceania provides a first rate product in all other possible ways (food, service and not least of all nice group of passengers) is all a welcomed bonus.

We dined in La Reserve on Marina last night -- where passengers do seem to up the ante a bit as far as dress is concerned.

I noticed a few men -- in suits. I didn't notice if they were also wearing ties, but I was on the opposite end of the dining room from these men.

The gentlemen closer to me were pretty much in shirt sleeves and a few sweaters.

Everyone was very neat if not formal.

So before anything, know that TC and her DH are dear friends of ours. We live in Newport Beach...Talk about Fashionista...get a life, my husband is beyond that. We never, never look shabby. He was a politician...that might be bad...lol. We wear DRESS JEANS...and he wears wonderful silk shirts and I don't show those "things that don't come natural" but I wear wonderful things on top...get a life...nothing should ruin your dinner. We don't wear flip flops, but I do wear thong shoes made in UK...very nice ones...look for us! LOL

This has to be a TIRED SUBJECT

I must say I find your posts very refreshing here and on the Crystal board and agree with them. I will look for you!

Sorry about that. I think we stepped back from Crystal after Christmas in 2012. It was all about the smoking in the Cove which they have since abandoned. The other thing was the free childrens program which they have instituted and marginally the size of the cabins. We had the PH Suite with Verandah and we got Norovirus. It is not the ship's fault...but we stayed in...the one bathroom situation was not workable when we were sick. Fortunately I had it first, then Joe...so we got by. I guess now I have to make at least a 1/2 bath a priority, especially when cruising in the winter which is mainly Noro time. Our paths will cross!

Sitting here on Marina, just after trivia, in the jeans and polo shirt I wore ashore in Quebec. It's chilly for us Floridians, otherwise I wouldn't have brought jeans. Getting ready for dinner in the GDR, where I will wear chinos and a long sleeve shirt. I will look as good as my physical attributes allow; I will never look like an Oceania brochure model .

Wore a jacket to the Captain's party (never a tie); about 30% of the fellows did likewise. Some wore ties, one couple were in a tux and gown, it was likely their 1st O cruise. They also looked good, they were happy, and certainly no one commented.

I have NEVER, in 13 voyages on O, seen shorts or otherwise inappropriate attire in the GDR or specialty restaurants.

Had dinner in La Reserve a couple of nights ago. Two gentlemen wore ties but gratefully stripped them off within moments. Why? FDR was there, wearing nice slacks, a dressy plain shirt and a nice looking Vee neck sweater - no jacket, no tie. That pretty much sets the standard :p.

I'm sure you look as good or better than the brochure models:-) Wish we were sailing with FDR........ I'm hoping that one of these days we will. He is such a lovely man. Please give him our regards (I would ask you to give him a hug but that may be going overboard ........ or, perhaps he would throw you overboard:D)

I do like the hat in your avatar :D

Paul, it's a Tilley...they claim it's the "best hat in the world". Check out http://tilley.com ; believe it or not, the site is blocked aboard Marina, maybe they think Tilley is porn star...

The hats are guaranteed for life and have a limited insurance policy against loss. It used to be unlimited, but as you might guess, too many people made fraudulent claims...

Frank left in Quebec...too many obligations to go the entire cruise. He may sail a few days on the world cruise - sign up! However, you should perhaps try one of the baby ships first...:D:D

Still a good deal I think they give you 50% of a new one

they have a secret pocket & they float ;)

If your hat wears out they do replace it free of charge with the old hat as proof ( I think this still applies)

Love their clothing as well

Thanks Don. We will sail with him on the Explorer when it debuts. Not sure about the baby ships. The Insignia will be in port when we are on the Riviera in December so we'll go over and take a look at her. We do enjoy Oceania and love the Riviera but our hearts still belong to Regent:)

We were on the Riviera in February and everyone dressed nicely. For men during the evening a nice short or long sleeved shirt and golf shirts with long slacks are fine. NO SUITS OR TIES. Us women can wear anything from dressy capris, slacks, dresses or skirts. Just remember - no formal wear, which is a really nice feature on Oceania.

Just want to comment for people new to Oceania..... it is not a rule that you cannot wear suits or ties or formal wear. Some people are simply more comfortable that way. As I mentioned previously, there were a lot of men wearing jackets in the specialty restaurants on our first cruise. On the other hand, what you described is also fine:)
