New Bliss and Suites = Rip Off

Recommended Posts

I’m totally upset with this ship (Bliss) and cruise line.

We paid for a nice Aft Cabin which includes the Haven, a few things they don’t tell you when you book.

1) The Haven up front has a bar, 20 seconds from all rooms inside the Haven. If you have to get alcohol in the rear suites it’s a two floor walk and takes 10 minutes. They charge to bring it to your room so don’t ask.

2) The smoke stack puts nasty black mess all over the back where you can’t even use the porch except when docked if they cleaned it.

3) The Go Kart track is a sham you have to pay $9.99 a person to ride once.

4) Don’t pay for a suite they rip you off and it’s not worth it.

Those aft Haven Suites on the away class ships have always appealed to me, I think I would enjoy it..

3) They shouldn’t charge anyone paying thousands for a cruise $9.99 for go kart rides.

Nor should they charge for a soda. Or a beer. Or a bottle of wine. Or a decent steak. Or classes in the fitness center. Or a massage. Shall I go on?

I've seen a lot of complaints on this forum, but that has to be one of the most ridiculous. By the way, it's not a "go kart ride". You might want to try it before you belittle it.

Aft facing Haven rooms are wonderful. There are 30 Haven rooms on the Bliss that are not in the Haven complex. But, you could walk to any bar to get a drink. Heck, if you are in the Haven complex you still need to walk to the bar (which has more limited hours than other bars on the ship).

WRT the go karts, the additional charge was clearly shown on your MyNCL prior to the cruise and has been a widely discussed matter on CC since the ship launched 3 months ago.

Did you take pictures of the soot on the porch? Please share.

BTW, I’ve had aft balconies on other ships and haven’t had soot, so it doesn’t happen on all ships. I think the bigger ships seem to have more trouble with aft balcony soot.

Some of you make it sound like taking a vacation requires a course in how to properly enjoy it. If I pay for a premium suite, I expect a top notch experience. Same with a suite in a hotel or a first class ticket on an airplane. And $9.95 to use a ship amenity when you are paying that kind of money? Please. Extensive “research” should not be required.

I do not fault the OP whatsoever for spending that kind of money and not receiving the best of the best, and especially the nickel and dime with the Go Karts. What a joke.

Any trip should be researched by yourself or a travel agent you trust. I for one would hate a premium cruise line even though many people would say it is more top notch the a Haven suite. I would pay more for a Haven suite then traveling on one of those other lines because it fits me more. Even the simple thing that I do not want to dress up when I am on vacation is just one example of what thing I learned by researching before I chose my trip.

Not everyone enjoy the same thing. Don't research then do not complain that it was bad because it was different then what you assumed it to be

I actually seriously laughed out loud. Wow...so many strange threads on here today. Quite entertaining.

Absolutely agree!!

Some people are just not capable of ever having a premium experience. They’re just not happy if they don’t have something to whine about. I think it’s part of the “look, look at me” experience on social media.

Today has been an interesting day, across many of the cruise line forums. I guess you could call it entertaining!! SMH.

What deck were you on? We just sailed on the Bliss Panama Canal cruise from Miami to LA and were in an aft suite on the 10th floor. We never saw a speck of dirt on our balcony and we would have noticed it as the lounge chairs had a white cover. We had a great view from that balcony, loved the spacious cabin and felt that it was well worth the price we paid.

Sorry you didnt enjoy the cabin. Maybe you would have been happier in a suite located within the Haven.

I'm just curious, how many other bar's did you walk by just to get to the Haven for a drink you probably could get at any bar?

Please post photos of the soot. I’m right on the edge of booking a Bliss cruise. First, I thought I would never book this ship. A racetrack and laser tag eating up all the valuable deck space? How stupid. But the non smoking casino is a game changer. Yet I don’t want to enjoy the smoke free innards of the ship only to succumb to miners lung out on my aft balcony.

Why would the cruise line charge people $9 for go karts? That’s just stupid sorry.

Why? Extra cost things on ships are a big deal and people love them. Not necessarily me, but judging by how enthusiastic people are about these extras like gambling, Bingo, specialty dining, alcohol, popcorn for your "movie under the stars", bowling and now go kart racing, I would expect to see more of it. I would rather the people that want those activities pay a fee for them than have me subsidize go kart racing in my fares.

“2) We love the Haven and want to stay in a room there again, (BUT) I noticed they have AFT facing cabins, then you have to walk to the Haven. Should we book AFT for Alaska or just a normal side cabin? We had an AFT cabin before and LOVED it!”

From your post in July 2017 when you were in a panic for information because you wanted to book a cruise on that day and didn’t have the time to read through everything it seems that you were aware of your location and that you were going to need to walk to the actual Haven!!

I nominate you for post of the day! Maybe the week. This is too rich. Hard to feel sorry for someone who complains they didn't know when they posted the exact thing before they booked.

OP...curious, you mention there was no gym on board. Did they close down the Pulse area? Did they replace it with something else? If so, what did they replace it with.

I’m looking at Haven on Bliss in a few months. I hit the gym every day when I cruise. I enjoy starting my day with a workout!

There’s a gym on Bliss but it’s for everyone. No private suite gym.

A simple look at the ship diagram tells you the position.

Seems the Go Kart prices are higher than I recall on the inaugral but $9.99 not really worth a complaint - We usually have on board credit anyway.

It never occurred to me to be unhappy about being stuck in the aft facing Haven cabins we’ve had before. Now that I think of it, it WAS torture. Adding insult to injury, we also had to pay for some stuff onboard.

The reason why cruise lines get away with "nickel & diming", charging for extras and habitually raising prices on things like suites, drink packages and daily service charges is because (wait for it....) People. Keep. Paying. For. It.

Cruises are sailing full, the Haven is full (likely due in part by the bidding process) and I'm betting there is a line of people at the racetrack who are more than willing to pay several rounds of the $9.95 (hey, I'm on vacation, right?) If no one were willing to pay a premium for the racetrack, and NCL saw that it wasn't being used, maybe they'd re-think the $9.95 - but they're far from stupid. They know a money-making opportunity when they see it - the first racetrack at sea and all. If they started charging for waterslide rides or premium lounge chairs by the pool (I'm stumped that the cruise industry as a whole hasn't started charging for the latter, given the endless stream of complaints), people would undoubtedly be willing to pay for those things too (full disclosure - I would pay for a premium chair so I could sleep in!) Human nature is pretty predictable.

Alcohol doesn't make or break any vacation experience for me but if it bugged me that I had to walk far to get my money out of actually getting my drink IN the Haven, I would make a note of it and choose a cabin in the Haven proper next time. The soot, in any quantity, would keep me from an aft balcony - and almost every thread about aft balconies mentions soot, so it's a well known issue.

Its hard to tell if posts like this is a real person or trolling especially when the OP has so few posts. I could not follow the logic. The Haven is a rip off? The aft suites are Haven but not in the Haven. If walking distance is a problem then book in the Haven. The aft suites are discounted for not being in the Haven even though they have the best balconies on the ship.

Soot can be a problem on ALL AFT cabins on ALL cruise ships. Again, if a little soot bothers you then don't book an aft cabin.

Someone just posted the go carts are sold out so apparently the 9.99 must be quite the deal.

Other than these extremely trivial things, how was your cruise? I was hoping to read something more interesting. Over priced? You may get me to agree on that. But a rip off because of soot, go carts, and staying in one of the best suites at sea? You lost me

Can you imagine if go karts were free? You’d have teenagers and kids just signed up to do it over and over and over and there would be even less of a chance of others getting to do it.

if there truly was soot everywhere that was so bad one could not even lookout, that is a legit complaint and it should be cleaned for the price paid (well, really for any price paid, regardless of a haven cabin or not). however, i truly doubt that was the case.

most mainstream cruiselines have upcharge items now. i for one would rather pay a lower fare vs paying for stuff id never use. a racetrack, i could take or leave. but i might try it once for $10. why not. isnt that what OBC is for?

For those that aren't reading the whole post, go up and look at post 16 - this guy knew about this location situation when he booked.

This OP is someone who just wants to complain.

I doubt he is even on the ship, we cruised the Bliss for 27 days in an aft cabin & there was only soot one day.

Captain said environmental requirements for US are higher than Caribbean countries, so fuel was going to change when they got to Seattle (California has even higher standards, so fuel type changed 3 times between Miami & Seattle).

OK...good. It sounded like NCL did away with the gym on the Bliss. Glad to hear they didn’t. That would be a serious bummer for me as I look to book the Bliss.
