wolfcathorse Posted September 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2015 This week (Sept 13 sailing) on Freedom they are offering an extra 3 points for C & A members (over 18 yrs old) who spend more than $450 on board. This does not include pre-booked specialty restaurants, casino...I can't read the rest of the fine print on the notice Lord Timothy posted on FB :p. Anyone know of any other RCI ship also offering this promo this week?

Colorado Babe Posted September 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Did you run into anyone who took advantage of it last week No. We certainly didn't! We cashed out because we couldn't even come close to using all of our OBC even eating at the speciality restaurants every night.

I think you would have to book a few cruise excursions to get to this number. . . . or do some retail therapy in the shops. Even a couple spa treatments would not get there. Or you could do a combination of all of them. :D

ksuds Posted September 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2015 I got the letter and didn't take advantage of it last week. For 450.00 per person, I'll take the actual vacation and we will both get the 3 days.

jules815 Posted September 14, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 14, 2015 I've been on FOS since last week. They've offered both the 3 points both weeks. We came on board with quite a bit of obc for the first week, then had some issues with our cabin, so had our internet and a specialty dinner comped. The only thing we paid for was some laundry, and on the last night we were still trying to use up obc. I had a hot stone massage and we were also in the General Store at 11pm on Saturday buying chocolate. Our total seapass bill was $1.37. :) This second week we'll earn the 3 pts. for sure. We had a credit and I wasn't letting them keep any of it. Haha! :D
Paulette3028 Posted September 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I wonder if Royal is trying to test the waters to encourage more onboard spending that can be turned into additional C&A points. I thought that I read that one of the other cruise lines was already doing something like this, and perhaps Royal is trying to come up with a program type of its own. We hardly ever come close to $450 per person in onboard spending. When I consider that most of our excursions are prepaid, my husband doesn't rack up a lot in the casino (anyway, and from the promo, that spending isn't counted), so I surely doubt it would ever matter to us. We do one specialty restaurant, if any, on board. From some of the other posts in this thread, it won't benefit too many....I could spend that money on a 3 day cruise and enjoy it much more, anyway!!! Of course it's a test, I guess you could book your excursion onboard. It should work for a lot of people. I really don't know why there is a difference between onboard and prepaid though. Rare John&LaLa Posted September 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 17, 2015 You need to look at the T&C in the original thread. Prepaid purchases may have counted. OBC was what was excluded.
Colorado Babe Posted September 17, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 17, 2015 WE cashed out our OBC on the last sea day and got $136.00 back from guest services. So many people don't know that if you can't spend it all you can get cash back.

We made that mistake on our very first cruise...and won't do it again. I read the T&C's as stating that prepaid excursions will count towards the total. The hard part is that each adult in the cabin has to spend the $450 minimum. TERMS & CONDITIONS Offer applies to Freedom of the Seas Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2015 sailings. Gold status and higher Crown & Anchor members over the age of 18 will receive an additional three cruise points per sailing when each member in the stateroom makes $450 USD or more in purchases during the sailing and after all credit and refunds have been applied, if any. All adults in the stateroom must meet the minimum amount independently. Purchases and charges made prior to the sailing, such as but limited to air, hotel, dining booked through the call center, items purchased through our Gifts & Gear website, promotional onboard credits, and onboard charges for casino and stateroom gratuities are excluded from the calculation of the minimum amount. Amount of guest's purchases will be calculated upon the end of the cruise. Points will be added to eligible Crown & Anchor member's account 60 days after cruise completion. SherriZ366 Posted September 17, 2015 #22 Share Posted September 17, 2015 I wish the promotion had covered 8-30-2015 FR cruise as we spent more than usual and only had $25 OBC. Prior two cruises had lots of OBC because cruises were cancelled and we re-booked the RCI-covered cruises.

OBC from a TA us usually refundable and can be cashed out at the end of the cruise.
